Shame Noble Prince has been withdrawn but still a great race to savour. Can see Mon Perrain going off under 3s and Wishful Thinking at less than 6s so the market will favour all apart from these 2.

Will PWise go for Divers or Oiseau de Nuit who are both course winners 8) he has The Giant Bolster in his team already

Fine Parchment now has a 5lb claimer on board so is just 1lb out of the handicap. Poquelin has a 7lb claimer.

I’ll second the vote for Loosen My Load.

Mon Perrain ran a decent race with enough weight at Aintree but prior to that won a weak handicap at Sandown – admittedly in a canter.

Wishful Thinking looks a very good horse and seemed to improve from Cheltenham but there wasn’t much between him and Loosen My Load in March and the latter re-opposes tomorrow in receipt of 11 lb. Added to that, Loosen My Load looked the most likely winner for the majority of the race, basically until they jumped the 2nd last when he seemed to take his time picking up again compared to the first two home.

While having a tendency to race a little freely, he jumps beautifully and seems to possess bags of pace.

I have some very slight reservations about the way he sees out the hill but with the Nicholls runner keeping the weights down he’s a horse accustomed to contesting graded chases running off a similar mark to some average handicappers.

He’s by no means a good thing but I do think his current mark could be a little lenient and with his proven consistency and preference for the likely going, odds of 16/1 e/w looks very solid to me, especially with the race paying first 4.

Although contesting some of the top novice races in recent years he’s only been out of the first 4 twice in his life – both times when finishing 5th.

    I’m sticking with

    Wishful Thinking

but the jungle drums are so loud for Dave’s Dream he’s a must ew bet for me.

Once said to be the best horse in the yard

    Dave’s Dream

doesn’t seem to stand much racing, he’s looked brilliant 1st time out last year when he won by at this meeting by 8 lengths and won by 4 1/2 lengths 1st time out the year before.

He has always been a horse who stands out on the gallops as he’s said to work brilliantly when in good form. Could be those touting him are getting carried away but at 12/1 he’s being backed like a big run is expected.

I think FOTP might offer a bit of ew value . Best form is going LH and they were anxious not to blow handicap mark by running in Old Roan.

Think if I had a bet it would be Great Endeavour, but too many imponderables in the race [and too many iffy jumpers that could just win if the fences didn’t get in the way. Looking at the race I was amazed to realise how good a horse Poquelin is; if he was in most yards he would be the star turn. Has got a 7lb claimer on board tomorrow. Could he surprise everyone, I wonder, and isn’t actually running to keep the weight off Mon Parrain?

Like the look of Fine Parchment but the race has some really classy types – its a right puzzle – not sure about Loosen my load though. Quite like the giant bolster and maybe araldur is under the radar. Think I might go now as its crime not to go being on my doorstep n all 8) Havent got tickets but think I will be ok to get in the best mate ? I might add we have been having some rain this evening in chelt so havent followed that closely how the ground is riding at the moment

I don’t think Araldur has ran at Cheltenham so we’ve no idea if it will suit him. Holmwood Legend has changed yards and gone to a trainer that improves horses quite a bit as well.[think I’ve got that wrong..need to re check my notes!..ah; assistant trainer has taken over and is doing very well thus far]. However, there are some potential superstars in this race so looking for a value outsider is probably a road to nowhere.

I take the 5s that hills will offer on MON PARRAIN tomorrow still gutted over NOBLE PRINCE not in race.

    Oiseau de Nuit

looks on a good mark, with claimer Brendan Powell taking a handy 10lbs off his back. He’ll be 2lbs lower than his last course win at the festival.

Probably prefers a strongly run 2 miles rather than the 2m4f, but will stay all the same. Tizzard looks to have hit a bit of form of late too.

Mon Parrain looks best of the rest! :D

I took the anti price on Oiseau de nuit several days ago on b/f.
Im still not sure if the distance is going to be a problem but the price was to big to turn down .

Loosen My Load for me, with a smaller bet on Great Endeavour.

Glad I’ve had the sense not to have a bet [thus far, anyway] as I’m even looking at Calgary Bay now. Very much looking forward to the race.

Thank heavens for in running punting, Timmy always sat in behind, in perfect position, managed to get on at 5.8 and salvage my much needed account balance. Great horse, great ride, well done to connections.

Chuffed to bits to see Pipe/Johnson/Murphy win The Mackeson. Especially pleased for David Pipe.

Just read note from last years race. Great Endeavour; how did they manage to get him a weight of 10.4? Ticks all boxes. Don’t know why I bother to keep notebooks when I never bother to read them.
