One of my favourite races of the year this, and without a doubt, one of the hottest Handicaps of the season.
Typically strong entry…..

I only had one horse on my mind for this long term, and that was At The Acorn. Think he’s tailor made for this, but he’s low enough in the weights, and he’s got a fight on his hands to get in. 16’s was less than I hoped for too, but should he make it, I’ll certainly be betting him.
In the meantime, I was really happy to see Lock’s Corner in there. He ticks a fair amount of boxes for me in this, basically exactly what I’m looking for here.
Another in the JP silks, School Boy Hours, ticks a few of the boxes too, and he’s almost three times the price. His run behind Asterion Forlonges caught my eye too. He’s risky, as there’s a few options for him over Christmas, but at that price, I have to get involved.
My #1 right now though would be High Sparrow. Joseph O’Brien is good at letting them bowl along here, and if he lets Sparrow do the same here, as he did over the extended trip yesterday, then I can see a huge run in the cards. His price looks too big.
There’s about two dozen others I could make a case for, and I’ll no doubt do just that in the lead up, but this is a race where I’ll always have a decent attempt at Antepost. Lock’s Corner will be bet too if he goes, at odds almost certainly lower than current 12’s, but in the meantime, main fancies……
High Sparrow 25’s
School Boy Hours 33’s
Both EW 5 PlacesNovember 30, 2020 at 20:39 #1512672Long way out but the three that interest me are Castlebawn West, Massey’s Wood and School Boy Hours.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 30, 2020 at 23:00 #1512678I’ve looked it over again Jack, and I totally see the angle on Castlebawn West. I’d have to add him as well to the shortlist.
I didn’t bet High Sparrow, as he’s even further down than At The Acorn, not quite sure what list I was looking at. He’s maybe one for The Leopardstown Handicap Chase at The Dublin Festival, but I’ll watch how the defections go.
November 30, 2020 at 23:18 #1512682He might well get in but it would be touch + go. Same with my one Massey’s Wood.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 30, 2020 at 23:37 #1512685Yeah, really borderline stuff, but no rush to suppose. Happy to go with School Boy Hours, as that 33’s is a fair old price for fifteen to come out.
Looking for alternatives should he fail to make it.
Already covered Locks Corner, and could follow you with Castlebawn.
I’m now eyeing up Ten Ten, but I think Ontheropes could go to the top, and if I thought there was a chance he’d go here….but I can see him sticking to one of the Novice events. Massive player if he comes here.
December 1, 2020 at 11:59 #1512703Bob like you love race to still not over last year when on Fitzhenry at 16s how he not win it mate still here mad Irish commentator in head shouting ROARING BULL to
December 1, 2020 at 13:43 #1512719One of mine entered at Navan on Saturday, Massey’s Wood. So is At The Acorn.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 1, 2020 at 17:12 #1512741The Foxrock always a good race too Jack, should hopefully be able to bet them in running for this, so that’ll be my plan.
Yeah Darren, less said about that “commentator” the better.
December 2, 2020 at 14:33 #1512804I’m going to have an early bet here, last years winner Roaring Bull at 33-1 ew
December 5, 2020 at 11:26 #1513093I’m taking 25/1 Saturnas early, as I think he’ll run a good race today at Navan.
Win or lose today, he’s a horse I think is perfect for this race.
There are loads of others who I could get bet right now. I like Whisperinthebreeze, Brace Yourself, Myth Buster, and Castlebawn West too. I will definitely add to Saturnas
December 7, 2020 at 12:17 #1513407I like too many in this at this stage to have an early bet, though I will have another look the week before.
I’m looking at Castlebawn West, Blazer, Farclas + Myth Buster.
It’s frustrating as they’re all attractively priced, but I will have to wait.
December 9, 2020 at 23:35 #1513658Really interesting entry here, I’m a fan of castlebawn west, mentioned a few times already above and it’s jumping let it down in the RSA so wud need to improve to win this. Had a look back at previous results and over the last 8 yrs or so only Anabaile Fly managed to win off a mark of 148 on its way to being a gold cup placed horse so it’s up against it for the win. All other recent winners have been in the 130s /early 140s.
Not completely impossible tho, wud like a bit more than 12/1 tho at this stage
December 13, 2020 at 17:26 #1514141Saturnas didn’t impress me at all at Navan, but I’m stuck with him now.
I can’t have another early bet in this now, but I’m beginning to focus on Brace Yourself and Myth Buster
December 17, 2020 at 12:03 #1514425Brace Yourself 14-1 ew 5 places for me off 137.
December 18, 2020 at 01:59 #1514491School Boy Hours not going, which was a worry after his run last week. He was always risky, with so many other options, but not one to forget, and he might be one for The Irish National.
Really wanted a big Antepost bet on this, but SBH not going, means I’ll have to be bit more guarded now, and wait till Final Decs.
I will have an early bet on At The Acorn though at 16’s. Needs another 13 to come out, which must be doubtful, but I can see him getting bet nearer the time, so happy to take that early. Still tempted by High Sparrow, and Lock’s Corner, but cautious approach now.
At The Acorn 16’s
December 18, 2020 at 10:29 #1514543Massey’s Wood disappointed last time and is very unlikely to get in you’d imagine. Hard to forgive him even though he was supported when 9th.
Castlebawn West still of interest.
The other i have just spotted that might interest me is Dunvegan. 3 miles is a slight question mark, there’s no doubt but it’s also an angle for improvement. Off 139 i’d say most would have suspected he could better that early in his career. He’s won over 2m4 and was tried in the DRF grade 1 over 2m6 where he bombed out “clinically abnormal”. The last day he shaped to me like a trip wouldn’t be a negative. The main nagging doubt i’d have is he’s been mainly kept to right handed tracks. So i’ll hold fire for now, but he’s replaced MW on the shortlist.Twitter: Jackh1092
Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 19, 2020 at 07:28 #1514626I found out yesterday that the maximum field for this is not 30 this season
It has been reduced to 22
