If he can bolt in untouched in the "Golden Whip" – like I said before, would the Daniel Wildenstein or l’Abbaye be an obvious option to close out the year in a more premier race event?

… Sorry, when I said he could soon be in England, I meant running, not being owned!! I understand that Austrian based Stall Christ-Lacke have already bid for him (they bought Anton Chekhov from Coolmore), but I think they owners will hold on to him for a while yet!!

 I would like to see him in an big sprint in GB / FR, too – and that idea was the initial posting of this thread.

Austrian-based "Stall Christ Lacke" was only short on the stage of German race-tracks – several announced acquisitions were canceled in due course. Anton Chekhov shall run in tomorrows Betty-Barcley-Rennen (G3, 2m) – for an other owner.

Funny enough ANGLO im an East Midlander too , however,i must admit to always having a good standard of living irrelevent of where ive lived or whatever ive been involved in!

With regards to OVERDOSE i was sitting on the next table to the owners, they where a bit panicky before the race, i told the big boy to chill out as their wasn`t a lot in the race ! i had to avail myself to Mr Springers generosity of 2,5 on a horse i thought should be nearer to the 1,2 mark!!

First time they`ve come over to the rail this week which insinuated that they expected that the rain had got into the ground, if i was the owner i would only be looking at France from now although i might be tempted by the Golden Peitsche as its an easy pick up, the great thing with this horse is he`s very flexible with regards to surface and distance, at the same time i would look at something over 1400 metres on a turning track like Longchamp!!

With regards to Baden Baden, the quality of racing this week is appallling, just looking at saturdays card, two poor Agl 4, a dog of a chase race, the second race isn`t much better and the rest of the card lacks quality…….not sure i should be here but what the hell, it`s ok for meeting up with some friends!!

The last thing i need to get off my chest is old man “Chapman“, they should get rid of him, his commentating has become something of a joke, he can`t read a race anymore, his comments are pathetic and he`s getting the colours mixed up more often than he`s getting them right!

They`ve changed the caterers this year which should have been a good thing but it`s not…………..naja, we know where we are at with the muppets running the show!!

Jau, das Leben ist lebensgefährlich – in Baden-Baden vielleicht mehr als anderswo (- well, life is dangerous, perhaps in Baden-Baden more than anywhere else  ).

Chapman has his good and his bad days – but he is one of those who seem to suffer most of the decline of German racing (- so far the ‘homebase’ is referred, on the contrary two good German winners in France today :D ). And under these conditions there is no chance for a German Peter O’Sullevan – not even a successor for Mr. Chapman.

Once I was a fan of the Baden-Baden race-meetings. Now I try to avoid them – and obviously I’m not the only one.

Nevertheless: Overdose is a champion in the making! Let’s hope he can confirm his promise.

I was in Saarbruecken a few weeks back and personally, I thought I heard a better commentator than old Manfred. I’ve actually been a fan of Chapman for a while now, but maybe the years are catching up with him. The commentator at Saarbruecken was quite amazing – commentating not from a box, but the restaurant, would you believe, and bi-lingual – German and French!! This guy is brilliant. His name is Pan Krischbin, and he’s a Mike Cattermole lookalike, however, that’s where the similarity ends. He’s an excellent commentator, who desribes the action superbly. As Tony mentions, poor old Chapman seems to get more things wrong than right nowadays, and I would have no hesitations in giving the Duesseldorf based Krischbin the gig at Baden-Baden for a while.

This year is the first in quite a while that I’ve missed the Spring meeting – to be honest, several trips this year already have taken their toll a bit, and I’m still recovering from the incident at Fakenham on Sunday, but I just didn’t think it was worth going this year. OK, there are some star turns on Sunday like Kerrin McEvoy and Nina Carberry, but with most of the top German middle distance horses either being raced overseas or sent to Andre Fabre (in the case of Baron von Ullmann), it does look that, unfortunately, there may be a decline in German racing.

Must admit im no fan of Pan Krischbin either, however,i accept he`s not a bad race caller (German racing only),however, when it comes to large fields in France (Betting office commentary) he usually concentrates on numbers only………i simply find him a bit stiff!!

With regards to the Baron, i can understand him moving the mass of his horses to France especially if he wants to race there, at least the German racing authorities can`t take another 4% from prize money collected in other countries!

What do you think of Jens Hirschberger? His horse have been running flat all week, take SERETH, he had them all off the bridal turning for home but then stopped like he didn`t have condition!

Peter Schiergen isn`t having a very good run either, any plausible explanation?

Bit overcast this morning, here`s hoping the rain stays away!

Was not 100% well and had sensitive feet which resulted in many lead changes, but Overdose maintained his unbeaten record – winning by 1 1/2 lengths in the Group 3 Lotto-Hamburg-Trophy this weekend.

What I am gobsmacked about – he was 5/2 favourite. 5/2? I would have mortgaged my parent’s house three or four times to back him at that price!

Without going to check I think he was 2/5 and not 5/2..

    4-5 (1.8) with Springer!

Horse was not so impressive this time, changed is legs at least three times in the stretch (Got a bit of a scratchy action), trainer says he`s got a tooth abcess! I guess they will take it easy with him this year,he should be an even better 4-y-o as long as Godolphin don`t get hold of him

I’ve just returned from Hamburg (spent Monday in a nearby holiday beach resort recovering!!), and I spoke to Sandor Ribarski, the trainer of Overdose. Nice chap, very relaxed (although he was also finding the heat a bit too much!), and he said that Overdose had actally banged himself in his box, which had caused a minor foot injury, but one which he felt wouldn’t stop him from doing himself justice. Despite having a decent position in the grandstand, I couldn’t see much at all in the home straight due to the very strong sun beaming down, but although I was initially slightly disappointed to see Overdose emerge from the haze only a couple of lengths in front, he had beaten a much better class of field that he had ever been up against, and hearing that he wasn’t 100% doesn’t change my opinion that he is potentially one of Europes top sprinters.

Regards plans for the rest of the season, no-one was giving much away – one of the Overdose team mentioned the Abbaye at Longchamp, but it sounded like more of a possible that anything concrete. The 2009 July Cup remains the main target.

Given what i’ve seen of the horse and given the field for the July Cup 2008 I think they have missed a trick… I would have had him over for Friday.

To win a G3 with a minor foot injury and a tooth abcess isn’t bad going…

And wins by 2 1/2 lengths.. Really interesting contender for the Abbaye.
