And wins by 2 1/2 lengths.. Really interesting contender for the Abbaye.
I`m in Baden Baden as i write , ive now had the pleasure of seeing OVERDOSE live on two occassions!!
The going today was described as 4.4 which is on the soft side of good, however, the sun was out all day and i would say the going by the 6th race was genuinely good!!
With regards to OVERDOSE, he must have a real engine as he`s got one of the scrappiest “actions“ you`re ever likely to see, with regards to the Abbaye i would be a “very big“ layer as he wouldn`t be able to burn off the cream of 5F sprinters on a very sharp track, this horse is a real grinder and im convinced he would be even better suited by 7F , the optimum target in my opinion would be the “Foret“ on arc day, he would simply do a “TOYLSOME“!!
With regards to yesterdays race, OVERDOSE was sweating profously like most of the field on a day when temps reached 34 degrees, in the race itself he slightly missed the break but was soon back on an even keel and bowling along in his customary role , STARLIT SANDS was held up in an attempt to get the distance which she probably did, however, she took a tug and it would have probably been wise to let her get on with it,CONTAT another confirmed front runner was taken away from the other runners and raced on himself, with hindsight it looked a poor tactical move, the “clown of the race award“ is given to Terry Hellier for his incompetant ride on INTREPID JACK,taken from the inside to race midtrack off the curve leading into the straight was a misjudged move, you don`t expect to see such a thing in a 6 horse race, ABBADJINN chased home the winner and that`s about as good as he his, OVERDOSE was given a few sharp reminders to see off his rivals which he did, lets keep things in persective , the horse is 9 from 9 and he`s only three, he`s certainly put Hungary on the map ,how good he his we don`t really know until he meets better horses, i for one couldn`t see him living with MARCHAND DÒR!!
another note of interest, the Bookmaker on the track Simon Springer was very keen to lay this horse,he was offering evens whilst the Tote paid 1-2 (1,50),from what i saw this was well received as many tickets won`t be paid out until today, i would estimate this race cost him 200K!!

Struggled a bit
November 17, 2008 at 21:13 #190297Easy as you like.
Thanks for posting, GD.
November 17, 2008 at 23:49 #190324A fantastic performance by Overdose, is he now the best sprinter in the world?
What a great rags-to-riches story his career has been!
Can’t wait to see him at Royal Ascot in the King’s Stand and Golden Jubilee. Maybe they might aim him at the Global Sprint Challenge series.
Needless to say, apart from in the RP, not a word about it in today’s newspapers by any of their racing "journalists".
November 18, 2008 at 00:00 #190326So pleased for connections and the horse; not so sure about the commentary…..
November 19, 2008 at 05:26 #190589Overdose is jet-propelled! I love the way how he travels, turns up the speed and goes into orbit

Looks like a machine in that performance…
look forward to seeing him next year – fingers crossed he keeps his form.
November 27, 2008 at 17:09 #192556But from where have you the information that Overdose is a gelding?
A very belated post but an email landed in my inbox from a journalist at Pegazus magazine today wondering why I had called Overdose a gelding!
Long story short – my east midlander source got lost in translation, and I assumed that he was right in Overdose being a gelding because I didn’t think there was any sort of Hungarian thoroughbred breeding industry!
Poor journalism – but at least I’m not alone.

Good news!!
Erm…this is about a novice hurdle in Naas!!
There is something in the Post though that he’ll run in the Temple Stakes in May before the Royal Ascot double attempt. It’s been known for some time that he’ll go to Ascot, but I guess it was a choice of the Temple Stakes or Baden-Baden – I think the Temple Stakes is at Sandown if I remember correctly.
