Interesting thoughts Artemis.
I’m not familiar with Lucky 15 or the treble odds suggestion. Can you explain please.
Terry.

The majority of bookmakers offer the ‘Lucky’ 15 bet.
It consists of 4 selections (win or EW) in singles(4), Doubles(6), Trebles(4) and a 4-fold(1), totalling 15 bets or 30 if you bet EW(usually restricted to win to win and place to place via the internet, but available ‘equally divided’ or ‘split’ in betting offices).
If you only manage to find one winner (with three losers), you are paid out at double or treble odds depending on where you place the bet.
To have any chance, you MUST seek out the firms offering TREBLE odds. Betfred(internet) currently offer this concession and also offer’best odds’ on nearly all handicaps and feature races. There are probably quite a few High Street bookmakers offering the same concessions, particularly if they are in competition with other shops nearby.
The Lucky 15 used to be offered with only double the Odds for one winner because even with the concession it was highly profitable for bookmakers. Fierce competition prompted many to offer Treble Odds, which although still in the bookmakers’ favour, gives the punter a fair chance. To be profitable, you still need to make a theoretical level stake profit, but you have the prospect of a big pay-out if you are lucky. It’s not a bad bet for moderate stakes punting on horses at reasonable odds.
