The Windsor stewards got stuck into these top connections over the running of Florimund on Monday night.
The horse finished 11th in a maiden on its third appearance having been slowly away. Sir Micheal fined £6500, jockey Stephen Davies banned 32 days and the horse for 40 days.
Interesting to know what Abdulla made of it!
Interesting that retained jockey Hughes has never ridden this one. I’d never heard of Davies but apparently he was champion apprentice a decade or so ago.
Good to see that the local stewards weren’t afraid of these connections.
Doubtless the horse will go into h’caps but Juddmonte don’t persist with dross and aren’t slow at culling the slowboats
July 25, 2006 at 20:32 #73953It looked pretty dreadful but I can’t see any reason why these connections would have a non trier . Davies gave it a desperate ride
July 25, 2006 at 21:32 #73954Needless to say Stoute is appealing
July 26, 2006 at 07:58 #73955How about because the horse is unlikely to prove top-class, and will therfore prove easier to place, the lower handicap mark it gets.
Although I must admit, I find the image of Khaled Abdullah sitting in front on betfair laying it for a place rather amusing.

He’s not that appealing.
July 26, 2006 at 10:26 #73957I would like to know the explanation why Hughes wasn’t on it .
July 26, 2006 at 10:59 #73958Because the horse has been troublesome at home and Steven Davies has done all the work with him.

I don’t think he’s ridden it in any of its 3 starts. Believe Davies has ridden it on all occasions. perhaps it has temperament problems and best ridden by someone who rides it in work?
August 4, 2006 at 12:50 #2835His fine is increased from K6.5 to K8.5.
HRA are getting very angry!
August 4, 2006 at 13:03 #74629Cheats like this should be banned for life.
August 4, 2006 at 13:45 #74630Think that’s a record fine for a non trier
Mind you the vision of Prince Khalid Abdulla and Sir Michael Stoute logging into the exchanges to lay their horse is bizarre

August 4, 2006 at 15:59 #74631You had non-triers long before exchanges existed!!
August 6, 2006 at 09:42 #74632These are interesting times. The comments made by the panel in refusing the appeal were unprecedented and appear to signal the HRA’s intention to come down heavily on this. I suspect they want to get to the point where trainers positively instruct jockeys to ride out to the line to obtain the best possible placing, thereby avoiding the risk of substantial fines. Time was when the "top" trainers had a blind eye turned to this sort of thing and only the little men had their collars felt but that would appear to be changing and it’s no bad thing.
Having said all that, I must add that the Florimund case wasn’t actually the worst example I’ve ever seen.
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the same trainer wasn’t sweating for a few minutes after the 7f maiden at Newmarket yesterday, wondering if he might be called in to discuss the ride given to his Cliche in the race. Even allowing for it being the filly’s debut, it was eyecatching to say the least.

August 6, 2006 at 10:26 #74633The HRA certainly seem to be stamping on "top" toes.
Hopefully, they will now look again at the Handicap system to encourage genuine racing at all levels.
It would also benefit the horses (and breeding) if harsher penalties were given for excessive medication and use of illegal substances.
August 6, 2006 at 12:33 #74634Does anyone know what price Jordan’s Light touched pre-race on Betfair yesterday? He was forecast 9/2 favourite in the Post but opened 10s on the course and drifted to 14s by the off before being given a ride which couldn’t fail to attract the attention of the stewards. His trainer was fined six grand with the jockey banned for thirty days and the horse for forty.
August 7, 2006 at 18:40 #74635Stoute isn’t taking the matter any further. Having seen the Jordan’s Light race a few times now I’d be amazed if Pitt proceeds with an appeal in respect of him – it looks worse every time I watch it.
August 7, 2006 at 18:44 #74636He’s not appealing either, and I agree that one looks particularly bad.
