Re First day at York.
I hope you chewed things over enough to back El Astronaute.
The opener is a cracker, and I’ll definitely be with at least a couple. Already bet Holmeswood at 14’s, and the 12’s looks decent for the each way. As for the backups, chewing over…..El Astronaute
Final Venture
Boom The Groom
Midnight MalibuAlex
August 22, 2018 at 15:33 #1363776I didn’t Alex, I only went with Midnight Malibu in the end………..if I went with common sense, should have had a Tricast there…….dammit.
August 23, 2018 at 13:48 #1363890Still kicking myself for that missed Trifecta, but the two main bets both places, Holmsewood, and Soldier In Action, so happy enough to stay ahead after Day 1, and I can’t argue with that. Some poor shows from the others right enough.
This is definitely the weakest of the four days, but there’s still a couple that catch the eyes.
The Lowther doesn’t really grab me, and looks a weak enough renewal, but I’ll have a couple of ew bets on Queen Jo Jo, and The Mackem Bullet, at 18’s, and 28’s.
Very keen on Fanaar in the 1425, and I’ll have a decent go at 8’s with 5 Places each way, I’d be surprised if he’s not there at the business end.
The Clipper Logistics is a cracker, and I’m with my old pal Bravery at 20’s to the 6 Places, and also Hors De Combat, same terms. I think Baraweez, and Mythical Madness, are both overpriced, and having a long look at a couple of smaller each ways there as well, they both look too big. Hard to justify betting four in it mind you.
The next two races are quickly passed over, but I will throw Coronet & Lah Ti Dar into the perms,
In the finale, I’ll be with Clubbable, but seriously looking at Lincoln Rocks too, and he’ll probably be a win saver.

August 23, 2018 at 17:31 #1363941Very very happy with The Mackem Bullet, Queen Jo Jo, and Clubbable bets. Shouldn’t complain with any decent each way returns at chunky prices, but didn’t win as much as I could have, with Fanaar making a dent.
Top Othe Ra did me a fair turn at Galway, and with him 16’s to the 4 Places here. Smaller each way saver on Eight Till Late

August 24, 2018 at 13:50 #1364136Going to be difficult, but if I could come out ahead today, that would be unreal.
Miles better card at York today, really decent racing, but being careful.
Three bets, Theglasgowwarrior 12’s, Mr Lupton 33’s, and Tangled 40’s, with backups at max each way.
Desert Skyline, Cosmic Law, and George Mallory are added to the perms. If any joy earlier, I’ll add them on their own too.

August 24, 2018 at 18:25 #1364177That was more like an Ebor Meeting for me today, with nothing doing, though I really think that Tangled will win before the seasons out. He should have been closer.
Betting a few tonight, with a few perms on the go, as well as few singles. Probably a good thing that these are the only f/c’s I’m digging out, but it’s a great weeks racing so onwards and upwards.

August 24, 2018 at 19:43 #1364186Crazy days racing on Saturday, great stuff all round, and really have to draw the line somewhere.
Attention obviously on York, and in The Ebor, I’m with Saunter Ante-Post. Weather concerns for him mind, but hopeful anyway, and though I’m undecided on the each way steal that is Nakeeta, last years winner will certainly make the f/c’s. I’m definitely adding Platitude at a price.
The Strensall is a cracker, and could make a case for half of them. It might make sense to sit it out, though I am drawn to both Chilean and Master The World at prices.
The Melrose is more straightforward, and Midnight Wilde looks a crazy price. Won with plenty up his sleeve last time, following on from a close one at Newmarket, and has ran well here before.
The City Of York Stakes is a very disappointing renewal, and if the rains actually materialised, I might chance Donjuan Triumphant, but as I said, poor race, and might just sit out.
In the 1616, Moojim is the pick, and I think he can continue the good week for the yard.
In the 1650, as much as I like Another Touch, I’ll be with a pair, who are no strangers to my threads. Dolphin Vista is a proper favourite, and though he got thumped in The Lincoln, he at least had some excuse, with tack issues (retreating at the time). Too big a price if the wind op and the stable switch do the trick. Nicholas T is another I’ve banged the drum for, for some time now, and with excuses this season, he is far too big a price for a race of this nature.
In the finale, I really like Bengali Boys. He’s high on my shortlist for Ayr, and a good run here will see me take the plunge. Weather concerns for him though, and Savalas, and Eeh Bah Gum look dangerous.
As I said, seriously goods day racing, and away from York, the best card of the day is probably at Killarney, with established types, and “up and comers” all over the place. The 1620 has me looking at every runner. Seriously. Haven’t bet old Shanpallas for a while, and tomorrow might just be the day. I can’t bet Nick Lost, as he’ll be too short, but he’s a horse who looks to have a proper future, and I’ll be watching him closely.
I’ll have to see if I can perm this lost somehow, but I’ll maybe have to have to have 2 sets of perms, one for York, and one for the other meetings.
Anyway, at Killarney and elsewhere, these are the ones giving me proper selection headaches. Said before, when so many fancies, it makes sense to sit out, but still a few (just a few) quid ahead on the week, so might just go for it.
1435 Killarney – Draycott Place
1450 Newmarket – Rum Runner
1510 Killarney – Ancient Sands
1515 Goodwood – Sir Titan
1620 Killarney – Shanpallas
1705 Cartmel – Golden JeffreyAugust 25, 2018 at 13:33 #1364386Two significant Non Runners for me with Dolphin Vista & Bengali Boys. They were going to be bigger bets as well, so ahead on the day already lol.
Won’t be putting as much on this pair, but might as well go for Master The World & Donjuan Triumphant now as well.

August 25, 2018 at 17:28 #1364419Last race at York; free 5 pence bet from W Hill so just had to back Eeh Bah Gum! Why bother studying the form, I ask myself now; it’s the way forward! Pleased for the Easterby’s as well.
August 26, 2018 at 00:50 #1364449Snap Moe, I fair roared him home myself (edit, not that it was a big bet I might add), and the 7’s was unbelievable. With Rum Runner at 12’s, and Nakeeta squaring me up in The Ebor, it gave me a decent end to the week, and haven’t tallied up, but pretty sure I managed to get out ahead. Really enjoyed Rum Runner, and he’s a horse I’ll bet again.
Would have been comfortably ahead, but by far biggest bet of the week was Nicholas T, and he just didn’t get there, but no excuses. Jockey gave him a fine ride, and gave him every chance, but he just wasn’t good enough on the day. I’ve not given up on him.
I was very happy with Master The World as well, and with Euro Nightmare running at Windsor tonight, my Antepost Cambridgeshire Plans aren’t any clearer.
Really decent racing over the four days, and proper enjoyed it. Glad I took the time off work.
Going to bet a few tomorrow, might as well round the week off, though with my modest profit on the week, it might be perms only, but I’ll decide later.
August 27, 2018 at 01:04 #1364640Decided to sit Sunday out, as the cards were poor on the whole, but much more of interest today, and I’ll have one last go.
I get another chance with Dolphin Vista, and the same sentiments apply today, as they did on Saturday. Also at Epsom is Pettochside, another horse I know well. Very poor at Goodwood, and although not much of a price, just the type to bounce back.
Another pair I like who are short enough, are Limerick Lord & Life Of Riley, and also strongly considering them.
At Cartmel, Midnight Shot was too big at 14’s, and though there’s the suspicion that he’s fallen out of love with the game, he’s worth a chance at that price, especially with the cheek pieces added.
I’ll beef up the perms with…..
Five Amarones
Han Solo Berger
Sir Billy WrightAs I said yesterday, a (very) few quid ahead after a cracking weeks racing, so quite happy to give it one more go, and no complaints if things don’t go according to plan today.
August 28, 2018 at 14:53 #1364836Always good to get a winner at 14’s, but when it’s one of my “Midnights”, then even sweeter. Always reluctant to put them up on this thread, but when it comes off it’s great. He was a proper winner for me yesterday, and still can’t believe 14’s was on offer.
It was almost a day to remember, as I had a decent ew double with Dolphin Vista, who I had at 33’s, albeit with a chunky R4 applied. Dolphin Vista was incredibly unlucky, and with pluckier Stewards, would have been given the race, but they ducked it. I suppose at a push, I can see why Gabrial kept it, but he stopped Dolphin Vista winning, of that there is no debate, and it would have been a jackpot win, but hey ho, it was a decent ew double, 12’s and 33’s, so in no position to moan. A very decent Monday.
The ew perms also paid their way, so smashing day.
As per, I’ll keep going until the inevitable blank day. Ballinrobe is one of my favourite tracks to back at, but not fully picked them out yet, but I’ll certainly be going through the card.
Some nice ones elsewhere, with three at Epsom first of all. I was mad keen on Ashpan Sam, but there’s a fair old drift going on, but won’t stop me at 8’s ew. Drift aside, he likes it here, and seems as good as ever. Pastoral Player, and Gainsay both seem fair at 6’s. Both were going to be win only, but the 3 Places makes Pastoral Player an each way go.
At Ripon, the 4 Places hooks me in for Bristol Missile at 11’s, and at Chelmsford, from what I’ve seen of North Korea, he has to have a real chance of making the frame at 14’s.
August 29, 2018 at 11:58 #1364894Bagged a couple of each ways at Ballinrobe last night, but not enough to trouble the p/l, and that was definitely the “blank day” I was waiting on.
Ashpan Sam showed he’s as good as ever, and hopefully back at 5f next time, I’ll be with him again. No complaintss about the rest, well maybe Bristol Missile, who ran at the start as if he’d just got out of bed.
Actually betting a few today, probably foolishly, but for this thread that’s surely enough till the weekend.
August 30, 2018 at 15:43 #1365231Bet Surrounding for this weekends Irish Cambridgeshire, but takes in tonight at Tipperary instead. This looks a lot tougher, but might as well have a go at 40’s, in the chance she sneaks a place.

September 8, 2018 at 12:42 #1372278Really chuffed with Monumental Man at Laytown, and couldn’t believe he was 12’s before the off. Red All Star was too big as well, and though he didn’t get there, he looks a horse to chance soon, especially at a price.
Big race of the day is The Sprint Cup, and I’m with Sir Dancealot 12’s and 9’s wins, though he’s currently drifting, and very happy with my 50’s ew on Donjuan Triumphant. Also at around 20’s, Cosmelli, who I like for The Ebor, looks a fair each way earlier on the card.
It’s a smashing Saturday Card all in, and I’ll kick off with Nulife at Wexford, who looks a solid each way at 9’s. I like the look of Ballyfinboy at Wexford as well. He’s a horse I follow, but I’ve only actually bet him just the once. I want to bet him when he’s a price, but I do like the jockey booking. I’ll only bet him if any joy earlier, as the 5’s doesn’t tempt me immediately. Earlier on the card, Play at Midnight could improve over this trip, and the 10’s pulled me in.
One of my Cambridgeshire bets, Master The World, runs at Haydock, and he’s a decent each way 14’s. The favourite looks solid, but I’ll be with Master The World.
Cunard Handicap is a good renewal at Ascot, and though hit with a big hike, Squats did me a proper turn a fortnight ago, and I’ll chance him and Cardsharp, as they’re both around 28’s, 33’s. Crazy looking prices. Also at Ascot, in a decent looking sprint, is Tangled. Big fan, think he’s a winner in waiting, and had a decent go at the 33’s each way. Berkshire Royal, around 8’s also looks worth a crack for the win at Ascot.
I haven’t bet him for years, but at Thirsk, I’ll have a small sentimental bet on an old friend at 33’s, Silvery Moon.
September 9, 2018 at 13:33 #1373305Disappointing day yesterday, and a couple of them placing didn’t make that much of a dent unfortunately. Main loser was Tangled, and he took a fair old chunk of my Thursday returns with him. Every chance, and came up well short. I was very confident of a big run, at least to get a good lay in, but never an option.
Really chuffed with Donjuan Triumphant, and a better break, and he might just have done it, but that’s taking nothing away from winner, who’s a top horse. Sir Dancealot was brutal, and I’m pretty sure I can rip up my Champions Sprint slip. No such worries for Master The World, and he’ll still be a bet for me in The Cambridgeshire, especially as his price will hold now.
Loose change left from Thursday. D-Day today for Justanotherbottle, and any encouragement at York, and I’ll be betting him for Ascot and Ayr. I’ve taken the 6’s today as well.
Not the worst card at York, and I like the look of Hitman and Storm Ahead in the opener.
In the 1650 at Listowel, I’m torn between Kylecrue, Draycott Place, and Conrad Hastings, and I’ve split at 11’s, 14’s, and 33’s. Tough race though.

September 12, 2018 at 00:35 #1373667Even more out of the loop than before; packing for holiday [oop north again but will miss Kelso as we have to be back for a folk festival] and have been tied up with the arrival of a little dog for my daughter; a miniature Schnauzer called Trudie. DD has never shown any interest in dogs, despite being brought up with them, until deciding a year or so ago that she had to have a MS.Had to keep it a secret from the grandchildren for weeks which was really difficult. Seem to have missed plenty of Fergal O’Brien winners. Hope to get back to normal when we come home. Be lucky!
