    Morning

Couple of interest prior to entries

Diese Des Bieffes 137…..5 yr old french bred from the Hendo yard, stepped up to 2m 5f in the Lanzarote, finnished 5th that day behind stablemate WH,arguably one of the strongest races we have seen this term for hurdlers over middle distance, plenty winners from that race.
Possibly m pipe/coral…..the former would be the guess as he has bowen junior in the ranks, and the rating should get him in,very interesting horse.

National hunt chase…..Elliot has a strong record in this, multiple entries, the one that looks intriguing is Sutton Manor, campaigned over shorter distances, the formbook suggests he wants a trip, whether this test or one of the other handicaps,we may know more tomorrow.

Good point re getting involved too early, trying to keep an open mind in the lead up can be difficult, stable form, ground changes, multiple entries…..things change so quickly.Tomorrow should shed a little more light, will be paying more attention to some of the Irish handicapping, they have sent a few over this side purely as scouting trips.

Plenty more of interest, looking forward to a little equine gassing

    Morning Flyers,

yeah that Bieffes is an interesting one. Had him as a very interesting one for The Betfair, but when it was clear that he was getting stepped up, I did think maybe Coral Cup. Not a race I have much joy in, backed Supasundae in running last year, but that is a very rare highlight. I do think William Henry has a strong chance for the yard, so I like your Bowen angle.

Oh don’t start me on Sutton Manor. He’s very much on my radar. Bet him three times last season, and he’s way better than the figures. Twice he had no luck at all last spring, and he was rock solid in The Pertemps. I just hope NH Chase, as more or less got my selections there.

Yeah, love it when handicap entries come out, and as you say, we’ll know more tomorrow. I’m backshift all week, so hoping for a couple of quiet nights, so that I can sit on my fat ass on my phone, and pour over the entries lol

I’m very pleased with myself, only having a handful of Handicap bets so far. I usually have a lot more, and as I’ve said before, no point in having big juicy prices on one for The Ultima Handicap Chase, if it pops up in The Pertemps Hurdle lol. Ps gotta love those scouting trips, some of them are very transparent, others a little more sneaky lol

Aye….Saw that william henry was jolly on machine for coral,DDB has plenty decent juvenile form on better going,no surprise if hendo enters both, always wary of the sacrificial lamb at the top of handicap, tagliatelle being a prime example last year, much to my dismay.

Bleu Et Rouge for mullins would be the perfect example for your last point, yes they had a go in the betfair, but now they will also have a handle on the novice form, kalashnikov was a very game winner,he remains of interest but that looked a hard race, plenty will benefit from a break after that.Zalvados is another to keep on side,he carried my interest there, held up out the back, finnishing position will keep him off most lists, reckon they will go to Aintree with him,one for the notebook.

Couple of tiger rolls would be just fine,do like to play the pools when there is decent money, couple of stories from last year that have remained under wraps…. western theme, the good….the bad….downright ugly, nearer the time maybe :mail:

Just watched Zalvados there, very interesting, nice run that, and one that I completely overlooked, hadn’t given him a second though.

I like that Bleu Et Rouge, and he just looks perfect for The County to me, and they’ll certainly have an angle on him now for sure.

Yes, another Tiger Roll would be perfect. I don’t know whether to be excited or not, him and Cause of Causes in the same race, but be a big race for me anyway if they do go for it together. Can already see a big exacta, and a trifecta with Bless The Wings thrown in lol.

Look forward to those stories, especially the “good” of course.

Tiger Roll…..we both love him after last year,I,m not so sure he will go x-country,have not seen any quotes from connections, not that they mean much anyway, deep down I think he is too good a horse to risk here.He is not the biggest either,he gets from one side to tother,is he a smokescreen for your other one?Traditionally a race for horses that appear on the decline,or unable to get competitive off a lofty mark,he does not fit into either criteria for me.
No surprise should he get more than one entry, ground may be the key,we know he comes alive spring time,is it just the fact he jumps much better out of decent ground?
Warmed to this race in recent years, record is ok,I can see the problem when you have several involved that are pulling on the heart strings,I may be way wrong here, gun to head,I think the Tiger has more to offer than the x-country,if they so wish.

Set the scene…….2017,my mum and her two sisters from the states, are coming down on the friday of cheltenham, both sisters were brilliant to me and mrs nap when we travelled to colorado, then yellowstone in 2014,so it was great to see them, just the timing!

All three like to bet,the aunties like the casinos, and my mum gets it from my dad,I should have known.

The bad……various horses in triumph, county,a bartlett….not a bean between the 3 of them, with yours truly covering stakes, inc combos on the nanny goat, getting expensive!
Gold cup….sizing john, minella rocco, djakadam, saphir du rheu……relief as we get the winner,f/cast but oh so close on the tricast,1,2,4 and 5th……still down on the day.

The ugly……Foxhunters……Pacha du polder is my fancy,Balnaslow my 2nd choice, two of them go with mine,my other aunty goes for barrel of laughs.we stick another beast in f/c and trifecta.
They jump the last with my two and barrel of laughs 1,2 and 3rd……pandemonium in the house,4 armchair jockeys rise as one…….chaos as the telly is surrounded on the run-in…..hilarious.

Just for a mo….pacha wins 16/1,barrel of laughs third at 100/1 beaten neck for 2nd,Balnaslow 5th not beaten far.
We had the exacta 40p,trifecta 10p……the forecast could have paid anything, the trifecta with nicholls other one at 7/2 paid £21,728……still think the barrel is going to finnish second now.

It was a great day……..pacha paid for the wine….they both love cheltenham.

lol,Brilliant Flyers, that must have been crazy in the house, and almost surreal. So close to a proper payday, must have been agonising, but at least Pach got you the wine.

Totally agree with Tiger Roll. Off his current mark, he’d be a serious player in The Ultima, but I’ve made no secret on here of how much I rate him, and I genuinely believe The Gold Cup isn’t beyond him. I’d love you to be right, and I have mentioned that he’s the heir to Cause of Causes throne, in that he’s the yards Cheltenham “target” horse, but if they line up in the same race, then I’m very wrong with that theory lol.

This is going to be my worst Cheltenham ever, I think] and I could never top last years Supreme anyway. Although I’m having bets every day [ipad with oddschecker on next to computer with W Hill racing radio, so I can back the paddock picks and steamers!] I’m more out of touch with the horses that are running than I’ve ever been. Maybe some last minute cramming might help or some sort of beginners luck might creep in with me being so ignorant about all the horses. And, annoyingly, there are no Cheltenham previews near us this year, although we might go to one at Market Rasen on the Sunday if Mike feels like driving that far. We’re finding [now we’re older] that driving to Cheltenham and back in one day along with a days racing is getting too much, also [and we can’t stay overnight because of the dog]. I do hope I can find the live preview from Ireland that I watched last year again, in which Jamie Codd tipped Labaik; nit only was it very informative but it was really good fun also! Adam on Purple Harry again today; must be a brave lad because the horse seems hell bent on wiping him out….

    Hi Moehat

You are not alone with those thoughts, most competitive 4 days of the year.Bringing together the form from both sides of the water, faced with large fields, punting wise can be a minefield.

One thing I would say,I do approach these 4 days differently than the rest of the season.Rather than trying to find form hidden, as we do for most of the year, the emphasis for me is trying to find the best available.

Horses with festival experience and last time out winners both normally are huge positives come march, suggesting they are spring horses on an upward curve, and can handle the pace of these cheltenham races, where they go a stride quicker and they are tested to the extreme.

Also the busiest 4 days/nights,overnight decs can change the complexion of races with headgear, jockey claims, ground and stable form, weeks of planning can change if your fancy is a nonner, stressful week at times.

Never be afraid to say I got that wrong, lord knows just a couple winners at decent odds are hard to find,if your backing horses like Labaik, your doing ok.

VTC will have his own slant, our layer friends from the highstreet rub their hands come mid march, this is the time for punters to exchange views/approaches,always open to other thoughts/methods,nothing better than coming out of these 4 days ahead.

    Bring it on

    Are you thinking County ?

Hi Moe, hope you get to that preview, as I said last year on The Cheltenham Preview thread, you’ll only get the odd nugget, but with the right panel (and crowd) they can be good nights. I know what you mean about the dog restricting you, my Mutt dictates everything I do now. He’s a bad boy. Don’t right off your Cheltenham yet, but I do get that thought process, after the the last two, I’m due an ugly reverse, and at this moment in time, I’ll take one winner lol

Yeah Flyers, I definitely have another slant on it. My biggest change this season (apart from butchering my stakes), is to severely limit my Ante-Posts on the handicaps, as bar The Gold Cup, and The NH Chase, my focus is heavily swayed towards the handicaps. What I was starting to find was that you get too focussed on the race too far out, and you’d be terrified to leave out the one you liked in February, early March, and so you would put a line through something you liked on the day. If I didn’t have an Ante-Post opinion on these races last year, I’d 100% have backed Road To Respect, Champagne Classic, and Rock The World on the day last year, and that’s without your very valid point about going, headgear, jockey etc…..

I’ll totally contradict that last comment now. Yup, Flying Tiger for The County, and I’ll hopefully be three handed with Project Bluebook & Bleu Et Rouge. Tiger’s run on the flat, the run in The Fighting Fifth, and the run at Wincanton all put him bang there, in my opinion.

No way I’m betting tomorrow, but very interested in how Delta Work & Federici get on.

Delta Work was a long term fancy for The Albert Bartlett (didn’t back him) but very interested to see him get an entry in a Pertemps Qualifier, while Federici, a horse I would routinely write off, in my Big Races Waffle, has looked a reformed character lately, and with a good run tomorrow, wouldn’t be a forlorn hope in The Kim Muir. Flyers, was it you who liked him in The Becher, I’m sure it was?

County looks obvious…..just wondering if they are thinking of stepping him up,they have lizzie still as conditional, which is an option.
Hobbs likely to claim RJ for county,if he does enter anything, williams is a canny operator.
All the fun of the fair…..entries required.

Federici…….It was me indeed, hard horse to work out, connections been trying him at different distances. Not really gone to plan,he has ran some nice races, not good enough to get into the national on all known form.

I think they went there today for better ground,my guess would be a target at Aintree, not sure if he would get in Topham off current mark,he is a fine jumper,he also has banks form in Ireland,a lowly weight on decent ground in the topham would be interesting.Too low for Fez I would think.

Delta Work qualified nicely, under a considerate ride,139 at mo,a little travel tax might see him on 144 ish?Whole lot qualifiers to sift through,if memory serves me,the haydock one tends to be a good starting point.

DW could be anything, not keen on 5yr olds over that distance normally, he does have some top of the ground form, not short on stamina watching the race back, very decent shout on him, radar.

Yeah, complete flip flop with me on Federici, never a fan, now very interested in him for the spring.

More than happy with Delta Work, but very strange that Hills pushed him out to 33’s. Strange one that, but whatever happens, he’s a definite notebook of mine going forward. Not had the winner of The Pertemps since Buena Vista, but should have had 2 years ago, but for If In Doubt having no luck in the run in.

Small shortlist at the moment, but will wait till nearer the time. Looking at these at the moment, but no money down…..

    Beat That
    Callet Mad
    Connetable
    Delta Work
    Sykes
    Taj Badalandabad

I’d probably have Calett Mad or Beat That as the main ones, but I’ll see what tomorrow brings. Also from the race today, Sort It Out, I’ll keep him in mind for Spring Targets.

Hi Darren, hope you are well.

Glenloe – Favourite for Pertemps before he ran in a qualifier, and well touted for months now, speaks for itself, and must have a chance. I’ll go for bigger price though.

Squouateur – On him at 20’s, so you better be right lol

Sandsend – One of those annoying horses I can’t read, and not sure of where I think he’ll go, but a WPM horse in any handicap hurdle is to be feared. I’ve bet his stablemate Bleu Et Rouge amongst others.

De Plotting Shed – Been going on about him for a few weeks now, and he must be bang there, whichever race he takes in.

Only had a quick look at The Imperial Cup Darren, and Whatiswrongwithyou is on my shortlist of four, along with……

    Forth Bridge
    Smaoneamh Alainn
    Poppy Kay

No idea who I’ll go with yet, but got a notion for Forth Bridge. I’ll have a look at the five day stage. Looking forward to seeing your other Cheltenham fancies, and best of luck in the next few weeks mate.
