yeah, just clocked that Botchy, dammit, was happy with the price…………..Galway it is then lol
July 2, 2017 at 22:50 #1307484A good strike rate for you today and a great price with Mighty Whitey…what made you single him out, if you don’t mind ne asking?
July 3, 2017 at 03:43 #1307504Thanks Grass, very very happy yesterday. Things started well when I checked my Skybet Account. I had topped up Sam Missile 6 places in The Northumberland Plate, and thought he had finished 7th, but couldn’t work out where the cash in my account had come from, and was delighted to see Sam had got up.
Obviously Mighty Whitey at 25’s was the highlight of the day. I’ve followed him for 3 years now, though rarely bet him, just try and catch him right, and bet him maybe 4 times in all. Been watching him since his win at Hexham in 2014, when he really impressed. Sorry for the aftertiming, but it was almost a year to the day since I bet him at Sligo at a price, and he did the business on the level that day too.
It just looked right for him yesterday. I didn’t bet him at Hexham last time, as he had had a couple of disappointing shows, but I thought he was going to score as he was bowling along nicely in front, as is his want, and he was only headed near the business end, and when he didn’t give in, I thought “next time”. It was a weak enough race yesterday, he was down in the weights, and I thought Cartmel would be right up his street, as if he could stay ahead over the last, that long run in would find him hard to peg back, and so it proved, he really did win it easy. I expected him to be a 5 or 6-1 shot, and couldn’t believe I could get 25’s. Absolutely chuffed to bits.
Johannes Vermeer also gave me a buzz, as a 7-2 chance in a small field, Grade 3 at The Curragh, is not my kind of bet at all, and I could get used to this lol
As I said on the race thread, delighted with The Summer Cup, and the last minute decision to go with Tempestatefloresco paid dividends, and 12-1 was a real bonus. The perfomance of Vintage Vinnie was a joy to watch, and Henllan Harri placing was the icing on the cake, all in all a good day.
July 3, 2017 at 13:33 #1307537Good stuff VTC, I might have to get over my aversion to the jumps and follow your fancies, though that might be the kiss of death for them! Well played.
July 3, 2017 at 13:57 #1307539Thanks Circles, don’t worry about being the kiss of death, I’ll be more than capable of jinxing my own selections lol
July 6, 2017 at 01:24 #1307785Very encouraging comeback from Fagan at Perth yesterday. Didn’t look a natural over the first few fences, but he was soon in a nice rhythm, and even allowing for a last fence exit from Beat That, he looked the winner even before home, and regardless of that fall from the Henderson horse, he would have won anyway. He was a fancy of mine for The National Hunt Chase at the start of last season, but his debut over the larger obstacles at Fairyhouse was a disaster, and he pulled up as if amiss. No such problems today, and they look to have him back. Not long ago that he was running Uknowhatimeanharry very close in The Albert Bartlett, and he’s very much back on my radar, with The RSA not out of the question, but really, I’m already thinking 4 Miler.
Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary tonight, and a chance for me to see one of my favourite horses in training, Ivan Grozny. He ran away with this last year, on what I was hoping was a trip to the top. Sadly it didn’t happen, and his season fizzled out, but there’s little doubt in my mind he wasn’t right, and this was theory was given some credence when WPM pulled him from The Northumberland Plate, as he wasn’t 100%. He’s short enough for this, and not really my kind of price. If fit enough, he should easily land this, as competitive as it is, and I haven’t totally written him off for the proper big prizes. His stroll at Aintree is still fresh in the mind, and he ran with more promise in The Punchestown Champion Hurdle, than his finishing position suggests, especially with a marked change in tactics for him. I just have the slight doubt that he will be ready for this, if he did have a setback, and could he be one for The Galway Hurdle. He’d have enough weight, but at his best, he’d be a serious player.
Nice enough race without the added attraction of one of my faves, and the likes of Rashaan, the very interesting, and nicely priced Moonday Sun, and last years Galway Plate winner Clondaw Warrior.
Talking of Galway, there’s a JP runner, way down the betting in The Grimes who is very much of interest with that festival in mind. Minella Foru is a horse I have a lot of time for, and he’s obviously had issues keeping sound. He gave me a smashing payday in The 2015 Paddy Power, but wasn’t seen until January this year, when making a low key return over hurdles behind Sutton Place (but in front of Ivan Grozny) at Naas. We didn’t get a chance to see where he’s at in The Irish National, as he fell early, but the fact that he took that race in, and also the fact that he’s been given another spin over timber at 2 miles, suggests a definite plan for him. He could, considering his current chase mark be a very very live one for The Galway Plate. I wouldn’t be the slightest bit concerned about the shorter trip in The Plate, as he’s very versatile tripwise, and he just adds to the interest in this race for me. He’s a very big price here tonight, 33’s, but I really do have a strong feeling that this is a stepping stone to something else, and I do think it will be The Plate.
I’d like to have a wee go tonight. Not big on midweek betting at this time of year, but that rare go on Sunday sure paid it’s way. Ivan Grozny is very skinny for me, so probably best to perm him. I’ll have to have another look at the cards, but jumping out at me are Ashpan Sam at Epsom, and Caolaneoin at Bellewstown. I’ve already had a go each way on Sam at the 12’s, and that just looks too big for a horse who’s shown some of his old spark the last couple of runs, loves the track, and is on a nice mark. Definitely worth an each way punt at that price, and the same applies to Caolaneoin, who despite being better known as a chaser, has never been in better form, and could have a few pounds up his sleeve. 16’s just looks too big, and he’s an easy each way choice for me, win or lose. I’ll probably top up if he goes bigger.
July 7, 2017 at 00:51 #1309154Very happy with Ashpan Sam last night, and he looked back to his old self, and even allowing for everything being in his favour, it was still a very nice win. Despite his slipping mark, he looked as if he was coming back from some sort of setback, and he was improving with every run. He’ll go up for that, but I’d be fairly certain he’ll win again this year. 12’s was very welcome, and I’ll definitely have a go today now.
Sternrubin already looks assured of a run in The Cesarewitch, and I’m very hopeful of another positive display at Sandown. I managed to get a few quid on at the 5’s, and though not my kind of price, I don’t mind taking a chance for this boy.
The other Thursday runners I mentioned were a mixed bag……..
As mentioned Ivan Grozny was just too short last night, though I did stick him in a perm. There was always that suspicion that having clearly had problems, he wouldn’t be 100%. I’d expect him to beat Plinth all day long now if in fit and well (though to be fair not the first time Plinth has beat him), and as I mentioned, I just can’t write him off for The Galway Hurdle. I thought he just looked as if he emptied too quickly at the end, and he is better than that. Be interesting to see where he goes.
Of the others, well Minella Foru was disappointing. Although he had no realistic chance, I still expected more, and I’m not convinced he’s really recovered from his setback, and he hardly advertised his claims for The Plate.
More frustrating was Caolaneoin. As promised, I topped up at the 20’s, and I was counting my winnings a couple of furlongs out, as nothing was going better. Not entirely sure if he went amiss, or he clipped heels with another, but he stopped almost to a standstill. If he’s none the worse for that, then he looks worthy of another chance, he really was going very well.
July 9, 2017 at 21:33 #1309565Bad luck, I don’t think the blinkers helped Net D’Ecosse in the middle of the mob there. I’m surprised he had them on as I thought he ran honestly at Down Royal LTO.
Some nice jumping in the beginners chase..I liked the look of Sharlanda who popped round sweetly at the back and finished well. The second probably stuffed his chance when he clobbered the last as did the second in the preceding race.
July 10, 2017 at 14:34 #1309626yes Grass, Sharlanda a very interesting prospect, and I’ll eat my hat if he doesn’t win before the seasons out. Disappointing from Net D’Ecosse, but he’ll have another day. Very very happy with Aranhill Chief as well, and he was definitely the highlight of the day.
Few eyecatchers at that meeting definitely, and it was certainly the most interesting card of the weekend, and I’ll be giving the races another look when I get a minute.
July 20, 2017 at 01:26 #1310760Getting to see Le Richebourg a lot earlier than expected, and he’s back out at Killarney today. Impossible to bet on his own at odds on, so I’ll do a few ew perms for interest. I’ll be extremely disappointed if he can’t land this, and I would expect to see him back at Galway in a fortnight.
Very very impressed so far with him so far, and although very early days, I do see him as promising enough already to be mentioned for The Novice Hurdles at Cheltenham.
Not really wanting to bet on a Thursday, but with Le Richebourg out, ew perms it will be.
In the 1405, I don’t see any reason why Nulife at 4’s can’t win 2 on the bounce, while in the next, Davy Russell is an interesting jockey booking for Mindsmadeup, and 9’s is tempting. In the 1510, J J Slevin’s claim could be crucial for Is She Diesel, and is overpriced at around 12’s, but I do really think this could be the day for Moonday Sun. Aspen Colorado looks a plot horse to me, and has tons more ability than he’s shown so far. He’s a big price at 20’s, but this looks unlikely to be the long term plan for him. It also looks like a prep run for Alelchi Inois, but at 16’s he’s worth a try, as he’s a nice horse, and trip should be no problem. Another eyecatcher on the card is one of my Ebor fancies, Swamp Fox, and it will be good to see where he’s at.
Very small stakes, and only having a go to have an interest with Le Richebourg.
1510 Killarney
Moonday Sun, Is She Diesel

July 21, 2017 at 01:23 #1310859Very happy with how things went today, with most of them making the frame, and having thrown Midnight Whistler at Sandown into the perms, it was a profitable day. Kind of kicking myself for not including Swamp Fox, and one of those days, where I wish I hadn’t went for minimal stakes for the perms, but overall, I won more than if I had just went with Le Richebourg on his own. Was happy to see the Alelchi Inois race voided, and his “run” is worth a second look…….quite clearly it was a prep for something, and he never tried a leg.
He wasn’t great at a couple of flights, but once again, on the whole, very happy with Le Richebourg, and he won that very easily. I’ll watch The Galway entries with interest, and as mentioned, have in very much in mind for Cheltenham.
I’ll definitely be having a go again on Friday with the ew perms, and a couple of very decent meeting in the evening for me, at Kilbeggan, and my local track Hamilton, which I’m considering going to.
The Midlands National at Kilbeggan is an absolute cracker.Baily Moon, already mentioned on this thread, did the business for me last time, and I see no reason to desert him here either. 10’s is decent, and he’ll surely be thereabouts. He’ll have to bring his “A Game” though, as there are dangers everywhere. Net D’Ecosse looks worthy of another chance, and easy to forgive him his early exit last time, but it’s the fellow Giggs runner Marinero, who really looks overpriced. Not disgraced at all behind Thistlecrack last year, he’s a horse I still like, and he was considered good enough for The RSA, where he unfortunately exited early. His jumping issues came to the fore at Aintree, but after a couple of confidence boosters over hurdles lately, I really do think he’s a contender here, and at 14’s with J J Slevin up, I’m taking him along with Baily Moon.
Rock On Fruity was an impressive winner last time, and Phil’s Magic was equally as impressive behind him, and they look big dangers, along with the likes of Tulsa Jack. Really looking forward to this one, but happy to stick with my 2, fingers crossed.
Interesting card apart from that race, though I’ll probably only side with another couple in those perms here, namely Canny Tom around 7-2, and Regal D’Argent who looks quite big around 22’s.
At Hamilton, two of my biggest winners from last years Flat Season, Hoof It, and Classic Seniority both take in The Scottish Stewards Cup, and like the Kilbeggan Race, it’s a cracker. Both mentioned will make the perms, along with Naggers, who looks as if he is a deserved favourite.
I think Defoe could continue to rise through the weights, and I think he has a future outwith handicaps, and hopefully this race will confirm that. I hope I make it on the night as I’d really like a look at him, while the outsiders Rioja Day, and especially Euro Nightmare, who ran well for a long way at Ascot, could both be added as well. For good measure, I’ll throw in Midnight Malibu at Haydock as well, as this approach paid dividends yesterday.
July 22, 2017 at 10:02 #1311002Hard luck with Marinero yesterday, he seemed to be quite put off when badly hampered by the faller. Baily Moon never really got into it after clobbering the first but he’s still a good horse worth following. Happy to see Net D’Ecosse jump well given a confidence boost at 3m pace…ticking over nicely for Galway (as was Devil’s Bride‘s sharpener over 2m earlier in the week)Supreme Vinnie jumped well too.
Mystic Theatre looked good making all to win the mares maiden and her time compared favourably with the bumper over the same distance, though perhaps rain had slowed the ground between first and last races and there was no early pace in the bumper.
Newsworthy won his race well and Screaming Rose finished well to make up ground despite a rough passage. Also have my eye on Last Encounter who raced wide and didn’t jump very tidily, but plenty of potential for improvement. Not much on for me today bar my two in the Summer Plate, a single on Free One and a 10p E/W acca on him with Kapstadt, Cup Final and Tangolan.
Good luck today hope you get some winners
July 22, 2017 at 15:11 #1311078lol at Devils Bride running over 2 miles.
Yeah, no complaints with the race last night, and Baily Moon, as you say, was always on the backfoot after the first. I don’t think Marinero would have made the frame, even allowing for that melee, but nonetheless, it was much more like it from him, and there was plenty to suggest he’ll win a fair prize this season. Net D’Ecosse is just a very likeable type, and he’ll surely appear in The Galway Plate entries on Monday.
Decent day though apart from that race for the ew perms, and the highlight was a few quid on Classic Seniority at 20’s. I was very happy with that, and I’ve doubled him at 50’s for The Stewards Cup, along with another Hamilton winner last night, Defoe, for 40’s in The St Leger. I didn’t bet Defoe last night on his own, as too short for me, but I’m a big fan, and he was going away from them at the end, a very nice, and very promising horse.
Happy with the rest of mine yesterday, bar Rioja Day who was disappointing.
Not too much on the go for me either, though I have bet my 2 in The Plate, and The Super Sprint, along with Whenthewindblows at Limerick, Starplex at Ripon, and Star Maker at Newbury.
If any money from those today, then I may add the shorter priced Tilliant, and Midnight Walk.
Good luck with your bets today Grass, and hopefully we can have some cash in our pockets at the end of the day………though I hope your win is not from Cup Final lol.
July 23, 2017 at 15:25 #1311177Well, after Classic Seniority at the 20’s on Friday, Bengali Boys was a very impressive winner for me at the 16’s yesterday in The Super Sprint, and though not maximum bets by any stretch of the imagination, they don’t have to be when you get them off the back of each other.
Not much complaints about the others, and only Midnight Shot had anything resembling a normal bet on him, and I was happy with him. He ran very well, before completely folding near the end. Now know exactly where he is “mark wise” and he should pay his way again easily.
Bengali Boys was a revelation though, and he couldn’t have won easier. He had ran a few times, but I only bet him off one of the races where he was runner up, I seen plenty to like, and he was a straight notebook horse that day, as was Falabelle, who also took in The Super Sprint. I didn’t even look at the race during the week, so I don’t want to know what price he was at the 5 day stage……..I would definitely have backed him. I look forward to following him, and he should hit a decent level/
There’s not much of interest today, though with 4 places available, I could make a case for Ballyfinboy in the 1635 at Tipperary. He can pull it out now and then, and he did ok last time, which was encouraging. 22’s ew, and 25’s win for him. A couple of other old rogues in the race, and I might have a saver on The Winkler, and add A Decent Excuse, who’s well treated, but just can’t seem to win, to the forecasts and tricasts.
Away from that race, the only other 2 who interest me today at Bainne in the next, and Chipping at Redcar.
July 31, 2017 at 02:25 #1312003Nearly missed the Mitchell Bastyan winner at Uttoxeter; thankfully just noticed it before the race started [remember I said I was following him; kind of got out of the habit of looking for his rides with it being summer jumping]. He’s got a 50% strike rate at the moment [albeit not having many rides]. Had 4 winners at Nottingham the other day [admittedly I had @ 2 bets in each race as per usual] but this is unheard of for me at Nottingham. We like to go there at least once a year for an evening meeting and I just did a quick scan of the ones with the highest RPR in each race, plus a few steamers. On top of that, got to meet Anna Soubry who’s a political hero of mine [even though I have never voted Conservative and never will!]. All in all, a good night out!
July 31, 2017 at 16:08 #1312054Good to see you back Moe, I’m hearing more and more people talking about Bastyan…………and you were ahead of the game as usual, and were the first person I knew to mention him. If he’s hitting a 50% strike rate, then I must start keeping note myself.
Well done with the 4 winners, you normally go off on a roll with these things, so no doubt you’ll dig out a couple of 100-1 shots in the near future lol
I’d watch what you’re doing if I was you, I reckon Nottingham is TAPK territory, and you might end up bumping into him lol
July 31, 2017 at 16:52 #1312057Quite simply one of the best weeks of the year for Racing, and as much as the action comes quick and fast, the top notch stuff at Galway and Goodwood is outstanding.
Cheltenham and Aintree are obviously the 2 big weeks of the year, but with Royal Ascot not far behind, I’d possibly put this week on a par with Christmas Week, and Punchestown, the action is that good. Cannot wait, and I’d settle for a £0.01 profit right now.
Galway only today, and the action kicks off with one of my big hopes Le Richebourg. I think the world of this horse, and already eyeing up Cheltenham for him. Always wary of this type of stance, especially with so many hotpots we don’t even know about being kept under wraps, but I think this guy could be special. I hope he continues his upward curve today, but couldn’t possibly bet him on his own, as he’s long odds on.
In the 1755, Riverrainshine is friendless, which is a big concern, and even though I detected possible signs of temperament, I like this jockey and trainer combo, and on this, his handicap debut, 20’s with 5 places is decent.
I’ll sit out the 1825, but in the 1905, Nothing To Lose at 6’s each way with 4 places, looks a bet to nothing, as he’s in fine form.
The 1940, The Connacht Handicap, is the race of the night, and again, at 6’s, the defending champ, Swamp Fox, is hard to oppose, and with 6 places on offer, he’s surely another bet to nothing. Competitive as hell though, and Automated is highly respected at around 8’s with Jamie Codd up, and the support for him in The Galway Hurdle didn’t go unnoticed, while Powersbomb at 20’s, looks the most overpriced horse of the night.
Not went mad, and I’m looking forward to seeing Le Richebourg the most, while I think Powersbomb at 20’s with 6 places is the bet of the night. I’d settle for one winner right now, but all those mentioned make the perms.
1940 Galway
Swamp Fox, Powersbomb, Automated
20p Combination Forecasts, and Tricasts-£72.20
