November 25, 2017 at 16:29 #1328630Poor day here,what looked difficult,proved to be exactly so.
Well played on the stayers,first/second and the exacta, perfect
November 25, 2017 at 17:53 #1328652Thanks Flyers, very very happy with that today, and that race fair did me a turn. I’ve got Sam Spinner at huge odds for The Stayers Hurdle, and greened out there, so very happy with that too.
November 25, 2017 at 21:00 #1328706Congrats about the Sam Spinner race! And, at last, me, my betting account, a Shark Hanlon horse and the winning post are perfectly aligned with each other. Downside is that I had racing radio on in the background, half listened to the race and forgot it was the winning horse I’d backed [duuh]..
November 25, 2017 at 21:30 #1328711Smashing day today, and Sam Spinner put a smile on my face in The Stayers Hurdle. I’d bet him earlier in the week at 11’s, and I was confident of a solid run. As I also added The Dutchman each way at 16’s, and also had The Exacta, it turned out to be a very good race, and that’s without considering having Sam for The Stayers at Cheltenham at 200’s to 240’s. Already greened out, and the race really went like clockwork for me. What I didn’t really notice at the time was how well he won it. I was distracted by willing The Dutchman to hold on for second, and didn’t actually notice how easy it was for Sam. I’ve just watched it back. He routed them, and though a big ask to win at The Festival, he’s done nothing but pay his way now, and he owes me nothing. A very good race for me, and put me well ahead today.
It more than made up for Midnight Shadow getting nabbed on the line, especially as I had backed him win only. I topped up on both Cloudy Too & Frodon, and both made the frame, though Cloudy was the only one each way. Cloudy always looked in trouble, and I badly want to bet him to win one more time, but that may prove difficult now, as age is catching up with him. He’s been great to me, and I’d love them to retire him. Frodon never really looked like justifying my confidence, but he ran a solid enough race, and came up against a very smart winner, who I underrated……just a bit lol. There’s definitely a nice prize in Frodon.
In Ireland, Flaxen Flare was bet just in case things didn’t go to plan with Min. Result was never in doubt, and Min put in a nice round, but I’m convinced there’s a plan with Flaxen, and I won’t miss out on it.
I dodged a bullet with the perms, as only A Good Skin was included, and he was way short as well, dodged a proper bullet with the other pair, not that the perms paid much, but I even managed to escape a few pennies ahead, and it was pennies lol.
Another profitable day though, and very happy with how it went.
On to Sunday, and for probably the first time ever, my day will begin in Japan. I’ve bet Rainbow Line up to 33’s, and Boom Time up to 100’s in The Japan Cup. I’ve watched it once before, and it’s quite show, and really looking forward to it. A bit early in the morning, but I’ll be up with the pup anyway, so not gonna miss it.
Closer to home, and it’s one of my favourite races of the season, The Troytown. No point me repeating myself, I said plenty on the race thread, but really hopeful of a big run from General Principle, and got a few bets win and each way 12’s to 16’s, and he’s easily my biggest bet of the season. Last Goodbye 25’s, and Whatareudoingtome 16’s, both each way, are my support.
Smashing card at Navan away from the big one, and I continue to hope that Samcro progresses to The Champion Hurdle, as unlikely as that’ll be. Jetz looks a safe each way bet at 8’s, and I might have a small go.
I mentioned The Mooch a few weeks back, and I’m definitely playing him each way here at 16’s, and I’ll have a few quid on him.
The Hurdle after The Troytown is a cracker, and my Welsh National hope, Folsom Blue is in, and he’s best priced 5’s. Having bet him for Chepstow, he’s actually only a saver here, and I’ll top up if any winners earlier. My attention in this race is drawn to Pairofbrowneyes, and another Welsh National fancy, in Baie Des Iles. I try my hardest not to make a habit of saying a horse is well treated on it’s chase form, or vice versa, but Browneyes & Baie Des Iles both look well treated here indeed, and I wouldn’t worry about the layoffs, or this being a “pipe opener”, this is a nice prize.
Back on these shores, not 100% on this, but considering my old pal Rigadin De Beauchene & Arquebusier for the perms.
Japan Cup
Rainbow Line, Boom Time
**Unable to put this bet on**November 25, 2017 at 21:35 #1328713Thanks Moe, a great race for me, and Sam really did me proud.
lol, well done with the Shark horse, where was it, and more importantly, I hope it paid his way.
November 26, 2017 at 06:48 #1328756Did you see that amazing run by Venetia’s ‘Cepage’. Running from out of the handicap and almost won. Don’t know what her plan is for him but he won’t be much of a price next time he runs.
November 26, 2017 at 09:49 #1328773I did Moe, and I immediately thought of him for The December Gold Cup at Cheltenham in a few weeks.
November 26, 2017 at 19:27 #1328910So annoyed to have not had a nostalgic bet on Red Devil Lads today; I’d completely forgotten about him until I heard the race result and suddenly remembered what an exciting prospect he had been at one time when with Rebecca Curtis.
November 26, 2017 at 20:22 #1328920He was a very nice price Moe, and I had looked at him for The Troytown, and just couldn’t have him. These ex-Curtis horses are increasingly looking like their worth following.
November 27, 2017 at 01:06 #1328983Nothing much to report from todays action.
Samcro continues to impress, and I’ve not given up on that Champion Hurdle bet, as unlikely as that’ll be. He just looks very good. Jetz got the each way returns, but it was a very small bet, and wasn’t much point.
That hurdle at 1505 cost me a few quid, especially when I decided to bet Folsom Blue after all, just before the off. The annoying thing is, is that as mentioned, I had a fair go on The Mooch, and he didn’t let me down. He will win this year, I’m sure of it. That was a nice return from him, and on another day, would have kept me ahead, but I haven’t mentioned The Troytown.
One of my favourite races, but I rarely call it right, and this year was no exception. Last Goodbye & Whatareudoingtome me were average, but the damage was done with General Principle. I really fancied him, and he was a decent bet, biggest of the season so far. I was never happy with him, and at least there were no excuses that I could see, had everything in his favour. I hate it when there’s a bad luck story. I don’t know about others, but I’d much rather get it totally wrong, rather than thinking what might have been. He’ll have another day, and I haven’t given up on him.
Big weekend coming up, so hopefully keep my powder dry this week. If I like The Troytown, then I love The “Hennessy”, though seems unfair not to call it The Ladbroke. Outside of the big four……..The Grand National, The Gold Cup, The Champion Hurdle, and The King George, this is probably the biggest race of the season. Nothing quite like that competitive field of Established Handicappers, and young pretenders lining up down that back straight. Love it, and win or lose, one to enjoy. Got American, Double Ross & Cogry at the moment (I’m assuming Codelco ain’t going) and happy with them, but one of those races where I have a bigger budget, and I won’t hesitate to add another if the price is right.
November 27, 2017 at 21:43 #1329125Evening VTC
All of yours made it Hennessy?,if its anything like last year, then we will need top of the ground horse.
That would give both of NTD a sqeak,Cogry especially if he jumps, should be up there early.
Plenty good racing friday/sat,,looking forward to it.
Be lucky.
November 28, 2017 at 02:31 #1329152Hey Flyers, nearly all there for The Hennessy. Sizing Codelco didn’t make it sadly, but I knew that anyway, as he’s clearly not returned the same horse, and he’s either got an issue, or they’re trying desperately to get his mark down for Aintree. I think it’s the former.
Still happy with who I’ve got, and Cogry is in there, with his stablemate for company…..
American Win 16’s
Cogry EW 33’s
Double Ross EW 40’sWeather a slight concern for American, but I’ll take it on the chin if he doesn’t go. Smashing meeting this, and really looking forward to it, and shouldn’t be that costly either, as there’s a few races I’m more than happy to sit back and enjoy without a bet, though I daresay I’ll manage the odd one lol
December 1, 2017 at 10:52 #1329621Very quiet week, and hardly going mad today either, but a few small bets on at Newbury, and I’ll thrown in a few perms as well. Nice card at Newbury as expected, and great to see some big names in the mix.
As I said, small bets only, and if I can escape ahead with one or two of the each ways, then that’ll be fine.
Bekkensfirth looked a very nice type when last seen, and he was a particular favourite of Stilvi last year, which is a good endoresement, but we never got to see him, as injury intervened. Not sure the jockey booking would suggest that they expect him to be ready, but at the 20’s, he still looks too big.
I’ve went for Western Miller in The Berkshire. The front pair obviously deserve to be just that, the front pair, but at 22’s, I have to be with Miller. Ran a cracker at Sandown last time, should have won, and I think he’s progressing nicely enough. If all goes according to plan for the rest, he should come up short, but at 22’s, I’m happy to chance him each way. It was only a small each way, but I’ve just topped up the win part.
I really took to Oldgrangewood last year, and thought he would have won a decent prize. Finished the season without that big win, but ran a well enough race at Ayr I suppose. Nice return over hurdles at Chepstow, and nothing wrong his win third in The Old Roan, so a small win bet at 6’s for me in the 1425.
Should really be a watching race, The Long Distance Hurdle, but after chewing over Colin’s Sister & Wholestone, I went with the former. She was a nice winner for me the last time at Wetherby, at a very nice 20’s, and the mares allowance could be crucial in seeing her make the 2, should things not go according to plan for one of the big 2. 11’s for a small each way interest.
Elsewhere, I’ve thrown Ueueteotl15-2 at Donny, and Seaview, 11-4 at Southwell, into the perms.

December 1, 2017 at 21:08 #1329773Cracking stuff Bobby well done.
December 2, 2017 at 01:04 #1329858Cheers Tommy, I think that’s the 5th or 6th so far on the thread, plus one Trifecta as well, so going much better than previous seasons……….now just to get one in The Ladbroke tomorrow, too easy lol
December 2, 2017 at 01:32 #1329867Just in from work, and too tired to go over the Saturday action just now.
Happy enough with The Friday results, and though relatively small stakes, Oldgrangewood kept me ahead, and The Exacta was a wee bonus. As I said, Oldgrangewood had done little wrong, and wasn’t surprised he dug that out.
Of the others Bekkensfirth was minimum stake, and think he needed that, but at the same time no excuses, while Colins Sister, considering how the big 2 fared, was a disappointment, while Western Miller I’ll 100% back again this year, I just think he’s a very likeable horse, and he will surely win again this season.
