That must be annoying Moe, hope your IT problems clear up very soon with the big jumps action on it’s way.
Are you doing The Borders National this year?
October 19, 2017 at 11:35 #1322240Smashing debut over fences yesterday from Petit Mouchoir. He did everything you would have hoped for, and as this is always a fairly weak division, even at this early stage, he does look nailed on to be an Arkle horse.
It was also great to see Campeador finally put in a clear round. He didn’t quite do it for me, but in a season where there’s a chance The Champion Hurdle might not have as many contenders as usual, it’s good to see another throw his hat into the ring. Fences were mentioned, but I hope they keep that plan till next year. He remains a dark horse for Cheltenham, and he can only improve.
The Jumps is definitely back now, and some cracking sorts out again today at Punchestown.
One of my all time favourites, Tiger Roll, runs in The Legends Race, and though just a bit of fun, I cannot let him go unbet when he’s 20’s. This is clearly just to freshen him up, certainly over this trip, but at that price I would be kicking myself if he won. I’m still unsure as to whether or not he’ll go handicapping, or graded route, but what it is clear, that fun race or not, when the best horse in the race is 20’s, you gotta have a go. He’s still my #1 for The Grand National.
Most eyes will obviously be on Samcro today, and deservedly so. Fingers crossed that he can prove the real deal over timber, and if this is the case, it will obviously spark off much debate over the coming months over Supreme/Neptune…….and maybe even Albert Bartlett. I’ll swerve that chat should he prove to be the second coming, and hope that he runs in The Champion Hurdle
Whatever happens this season, as far as today is concerned, I wouldn’t be in a rush to write off Jack Dillinger.Like Tiger Roll, another horse who looks to be getting a “pipe opener” is Oscar Knight. He unseated in The Irish National, and blundered away his chance of winning in The Paddy Power, but he remains one to keep note of for the big handicaps this year, and this spin over timber should be a nice confidence booster.
Ben Dundee got me a small return at the tail end of last season, and he’s very much a horse I was planning on tracking this year anyway, but the switch to the Gordon Elliot yard, makes him even more appealing. He runs in the 1510, where one of the outsiders, Waaheb, once again catches attention. I maintain he’s got tons more ability than he’s shown recently, and though he didn’t back up this claim last time, he wasn’t that bad. I was only supposed to be backing Tiger Roll today, but just talked myself into him too.
Smashing match between Death Duty and Woodlands Opera in the 1540, but my eyes will be on Three Wise Men. You could argue that the 16’s isn’t that great value for him today, but it’s future targets I have in mind for him, and I think he’ll be one for a big handicap later in the year.
The 1640 is a cracker, and Minella Rocco heads the market. He did me proud in The Gold Cup at 40’s last term, and I owe him plenty for that, not to mention his win in The 4 Miler the year before. He gets some unfair criticism, but come March, he will be a serious player again. No idea what to make him of him today though. I like Road To Respect for The Gold Cup as well, while this could easily be the plan for the inconsistent Outlander. I’m not betting him, but no surprise to see Outlander land this. I just wonder though, will Carlingford Lough land this, and yet again, win at big odds. If I have a late bet, it will be on him. I’ve just talked myself into him too.
Away from Punchestown, the cards at Carlisle and Uttoxeter are decent, and Cloudy Too, in the 1525 at Uttoxeter really stands out. Won easily over timber at the track last winter, and only 4lbs higher. Stable not exactly flying, but at that price, I’ve got to get involved.
Really looking forward to this today, and from starting this post, I was only going to be with Tiger Roll & Cloudy Too, as sticking to the old favourites paid well at the weekend. I now though, find myself with Waaheb, and Carlingford Lough too. Huge question marks over the majority, so small stakes, and the usual perms.
October 19, 2017 at 22:36 #1322350Did you back Tiger Roll each way? I’ll bet you did. Only you could get a return from a staying chaser pony in a flat race against a Mick Kinane ridden Ballydoyle horse and the rest
October 20, 2017 at 13:00 #1322422lol Grass, I certainly did. I was absolutely chuffed to bits with that, and more importantly, showed me that everything is where it should be with him. He was free to run as he liked yesterday without getting him mark affected, and all systems go now for him this season as far as I’m concerned.
Slightly miffed that I didn’t have more on him, but any 20-1 shot that gets you a return, is a good thing, and although the rest didn’t quite do it, I was very happy that Waaheb is getting closer, and I will continue to follow him.
It was a winning day thanks to Tiger Roll anyway, but from other thread, Midnight Shadow at 16’s, put the tin lid on it. Very happy.
I only seen the 1640 yesterday, as I was at my caravan, and wifi was brutal, but very happy with Road To Respect. I have him in my Gold Cup “Book” up to 100’s, so more than happy with how it’s started.
Ben Dundee got off to the best possible start with Elliot, and he looks a cert to head to Cheltenham on that run, very encouraging. I haven’t seen Samcro yet, but it sounds very encouraging.
October 21, 2017 at 21:57 #1322882Yes; usually got to the Borders National and catch up with all the gossip with a lad we know who works there. Also Adam Nicol usually has a ride there. Treat ourselves to ‘the posh bit’ when it’s cold cause it has a fire!
October 21, 2017 at 22:05 #1322886Nice to see Gabrial get placed in the handicap, given that he must be one of the few horses still running today that raced against Frankel [even though I can’t stand his owner!].Got a computer engineer coming out next week but may cancel as have switched to a different browser and internet speed [speed not being the operative word, sadly] has now sped up considerably. Have also opened a W Hill account; problem being that it seems to show live racing 24 hours a day. And I seem to have found another way of getting Austrlian racing radio, ahead the race that stops a nation. Good job I’ve always been semi nocturnal…
October 22, 2017 at 11:45 #1322963That Handicap hurt Moe, I still can’t believe Gm Hopkins didn’t hold on. He was my second biggest bet of the flat season, and though it was a healthy return, the win would obviously have been nicer.
Yeah, semi nocturnal here as well Moe, though so far I have managed to avoid betting overseas racing while I’m up and about during the night, though doesn’t stop me watching it lol
October 22, 2017 at 18:54 #1323022Having fun with the account [although can’t dart from that to oddschecker to catch the steamers]. One of the ‘Midnight’ horses ran a blinder today at a big price; just out of the money.Cockney Wren and Miss Spent worth watching in the future; again both big prices but out of the money but very eye catching. Trouble is Corals let me do 2pence ew; WH insist on 3pence [swines!].
October 23, 2017 at 01:18 #1323071I bet Back By Midnight moe, and he’s one of the “Midnights” that I really like. He gave me a decent win last year at Sandown, and I expected him to win today at a price. I think he’ll win soon.
I’ll definitely keep an eye out on that pair you mention, and I hope I get them at the kind of price you like.
October 23, 2017 at 11:01 #1323096Turnbury back out today, and as per, he’s a big price. I’ve got a few quid burning a hole in my pocket after Gm Hopkins at the weekend, and I have to have a go today at 25’s ew. He won’t get me a return every time, but as long as he continues to be overpriced, I’ll continue to bet him.
Very happy at the weekend, as Gm Hopkins, being 2nd biggest bet of the flat season, nearly gave me a great send off. So happy with him, but the win would have been considerably nicer, and I’m in no rush to watch it back any time soon.
The only other bet of note at the weekend, like Hopkins, was an Ante-Post one, and it was on Donjuan Triumphan, who they got the tactics badly wrong with. Not pocket talking, as he was a very definite EW, and not a huge fancy, but I’d have liked a run for my money. I had a small bet on Hors De Combat, and he ran poorly, while I had a very small Ante-Post on The Black Princess, and I was really happy with her. I’ll definitely be giving her another look.
Just out of my bed after a long weekend working, and I’ll try to find a few to perm with Turnbury, and I think most of my attention will be to Pontefract, but looks like it’s going to be hard work.
October 24, 2017 at 00:03 #1323219Well, Turnbury did me proud again, finishing just out of the 3, but he ran a cracker, and for the second time in a row, got me a nice lay in running. Not quite as low as I was hoping, and I only laid to cover stakes, but was a very pleasing performance, and long may he continue to be overpriced.
I get that money back then to play tomorrow, and the only card that really appeals is at Exeter.
Highlight for me will be the debut of my old pal Sternrubin over fences, and though I’ll be watching from behind the couch, if he can take to it, then at 4-1, he should hopefully give Yanworth a test.
I’ll definitely be doing ew perms on the card, and although I prefer her over 5, she certainly ran a sound race over that trip the last time, I’ll be siding with Truffles in Ireland, at a riskly 6f.
Sternrubin is the highlight of the day for me obviously, but main bet, and probably only other single will be Umberto Dolivate. I’ve taken 14’s as he does well round here, winning here twice last term, and has also went well fresh in the past. He’s got work to do off of this mark, so each way makes more sense I reckon.
Got a few lined up for the perms, but nothing set in stone yet.
October 24, 2017 at 23:51 #1323323Well, apart from the jumping to the right, and on a few occasions, hardly looking a natural, I was happy to see Sternrubin come through this unscathed. The margin of victory flattered Sternrubin, as Yanworth didn’t work too hard, but Rub should have a couple of races in him this winter. I still wish they scrap this plan though, he’s a hurdler, not a chaser.
Umberto Dolivate was very poor, and I knew my fate early doors, though Truffles had already made it a nice payday at Fairyhouse. Always nice to beat SP, but when you get double it, it’s even sweeter, and I was very, very happy with the 12’s. I’ll probably leave her next time, as she’ll go up a few for that, while I’ll probably be reluctant with Umberto, even though he’ll be hurtling towards his last winning mark, I just didn’t like what I seen today.
I had Onefortheroadtom in my perms, and he won nicely at 7’s, and I was quite taken by him. Definitely one to note. Unfortunately, it made no difference, as the other pair in the perm, much like Umberto, ran abysmally.
I was also really impressed with Gingili today, and I just wonder if he could be a Scottish National Horse?
Nothing for tomorrow, so I’ll take the money and run, and hopefully no more until Cheltenham on Friday.
October 25, 2017 at 00:37 #1323327Didn’t old Alvarado run well! Reckoned they need to get his OR up a bit to get into the National so was hoping for a good run. Other than that had a stinker of a day; did have a 16/1 winner [name escapes me] but had far too many mug punter bets!Still seem to have worked out how to juggle W Hill radio, oddschecker and Corals. They did mention Sternrubin jumping to the right; sounded as if he did it quite a lot? Of course, JP flying over to see Yanworth meant that he was a dead cert I guess.
October 25, 2017 at 01:31 #1323331He really did Moe, but I think his National days are surely numbered, unless he can win a big handicap in style, and he’s not getting any younger. He might, like the winner today, be one to keep in mind for Ayr, he certainly loves it there, and it would be great to see him win this season. Smashing horse to own I bet.
Lol Moe, don’t let that technology beat you, anyone who can use Oddschecker, without kicking the **** out of the cat, is doing something right lol
Yeah, Sternubin went very right, but considering I’m against him chasing, I had to be happy, especially up against JP being there, never mind Yanworth himself.
October 25, 2017 at 11:47 #1323365Yes; I reckon you’re right about Alvarado. However, he might be nice to own but not so nice to have to look after; from what I’ve heard he’s a little monkey. Just the sort I love to follow, though! Can’t get Mitch Bastyon right, betting wise. Has a great win strike rate but the stats should include ‘but only when Mo hasn’t backed him!’
October 25, 2017 at 17:41 #1323431We’ve all got jockeys/horses like that Moe, just stick to when he’s on a big priced one, and knowing you, that’s when he’ll strike
October 26, 2017 at 19:36 #1323581Adam Nicol saves me again; not by backing him though. Was about to put a 25/1 ew on the complete outsider in one race when the race started and bet was void. Said horse all but won the race but Adam’s horse, from looking beaten, rallied and won. Also relieved that I did have an ew on The Twisler[ who I’m sure I lost plenty of pennies on when running on the flat] as he came 3rd.
