Hollie Doyle is an excellent jockey, but she can do 8st as a minimum riding weight and Trueshan carries 10st 8lb today. That’s a lot of dead weight in lead in the saddle cloth. Trueshan races off 120 and given you usually need to be at least 7lb better than your mark to win a big Handicap he’s arguably going to have to run closer to 130 today to win. If Trueshan wins the Northumberland Plate it will be the best weight-defying effort in a Flat Handicap since Sea Pigeon won the Ebor in 1979 under 10st, and Sea Pigeon had zero dead weight as he was ridden by Jumps Jockey Jonjo O’Neill.

Great performance from both horse and jockey. She’s good, really good. Bet365 were offering 7/1 earlier via a boost.

    Very good performance

A little surprised there’s no stewards as spirit mixer got dragged across the track by the winner

Han Solo Berger won yesterday under her at Yarmouth: His seventh jockey in seven starts, but Hollie made the difference and the horse won in a canter at 12s.

Never mind being 3/1 favourite, that’s an astonishing performance from Trueshan.

Racing off OR 120, carrying 10st8lb, goodness knows how much lead in the saddle cloth (Hollie Doyle can do 8st).

Even tops Sea Pigeon with 10st and Jonjo O’Neill in the 1979 Ebor.

    Amazing.

I know it was a Flat race but it is worth remembering this performance the next time there is a boring conditions race over jumps and something hacks up at odds on.

Good horses CAN win giving weight away. And it makes for interesting racing with open betting.

Superb weight carrying performance (I don’t think the dead weight thing matters though, lead sits still and evenly distributed on the horse’s back, something jockeys have to work very hard on core strength and stability in the gym to try to replicate).
