I guess this time it was just bad luck and any horse is allowed to get a cough now and then. The problem is, how much are other horses in the yard affected?
March 15, 2021 at 14:20 #1529628Unlucky yes but it confirms how ridiculous it was to pull Altior out the Tingle Creek.
This is the problem with ignoring some great races throughout the season to aim for the festival.
March 15, 2021 at 14:51 #1529633I disagree it was unlucky and would go as far too suggest they knew full well he was never going to Cheltenham after he got beat by Nube Negra. The jockey virtually admitted that he had ran his last race in his interview straight after. Nicky claimed it was all systems go for Cheltenham. What were the chances of a dirty scope? Believe that and you will believe anything imo.
March 15, 2021 at 15:44 #1529642When you’re only bothered about once race/meeting in the season – you’re basically putting all your eggs in one basket. When said horse is pulled out…….I’m afraid that’s tough/unlucky.
Horses aren’t machines; in my opinion, when they’re fit, run them in races – there’s no guarantee they’ll be fit/injured come mid March.
Thing is, it will continue to happen…..

Most likely to Nicky UNIBET Henderson. This is his full name, by the way.
Robbo, if Altior has scoped badly, don’t you think that other horses from the stable might follow him in the next few days? Agreed, if it’s only Altior then it’s rather a lie… or should I say Henderson classic.
March 15, 2021 at 18:15 #1529668Henderson horses will run just fine they almost always do at Cheltenham. I would imagine he will have a winner tomorrow and get at least 3 up at the festival this week.
I find the best angle with Henderson is that if he said it then assume he is lying. You won’t go far wrong following that logic.March 16, 2021 at 05:47 #1529766A very cynical but probably accurate observation, Cap’n.
April 9, 2021 at 20:15 #1535329Cheltenham wasn’t great and he is 1 from 17 after two days at Aintree. With Chantry House being left in the lead two out. Loads of horses with letters behind their name instead of low numbers.
While Corky Brown is clearly missing, I still can’t think of a more disappointing season in the past 25 years. Shishkin will win a prohibitive odds, but apart from him and Chantry House who is good at collecting, there isn’t much left in the tank.
April 12, 2021 at 20:42 #1536077Below is a comparison of 2 trainers this season, you could argue henderson places his horses well but considering how fewer meetings and races there are in Ireland he should be having more runners than HDB – there are certainly 3/4 times as many opportunities to race in the UK.
HDB has has an exceptional year but the prizemoney gulf is staggering. Henderson just isn’t the trainer for the big prizes anymore :
# Horses in training / Runs / wins / Placed / Prizemoney
Henderson 177 / 510 / 96 / 111 / £1.4M
De Bromhead 186 / 649 / 99 / 117 / £3.48MApril 13, 2021 at 03:27 #1536118Good post Kendicate. Rumour has is Hendos stable staff are already pricing up the odds for the November and February ‘Racecourse Gallops’ between Shishkin and the lesser-spotted Altior.

April 13, 2021 at 11:30 #1536157I’m thinking of pricing up how long before this year’s Tingle Creek Shishkin gets withdrawn.
April 13, 2021 at 11:34 #1536158Morning of the race must be favourite. Still can’t believe the Tingle Creek shambles with Altior. All the evidence and times pointed toward G/S – but Henderson is still whinging and criticising Lydia Hislop to this day for suggesing it wasn’t Heavy. Which it wasn’t. Bizarre.

April 13, 2021 at 11:38 #1536161The Chase Course at Sandown Park always rides faster than the Hurdles course does for the same reason this is the case at Leicester.
It’s to do with over watering all summer and using the same ground for Flat and Hurdles.

Would he actually send them a half speed canter upsides each other though? That sounds dangerously competitive. If he ever had to race them against each other he’d probably go out the back of the horsebox and fall on his sword after unless it was anything other than a dead heat 20l clear of 3rd rate opposition. And even then he might have them both transported back in the horse ambulance and wafted with palm leaves to get over the ordeal.

April 14, 2021 at 08:24 #1536303What is happening with the lesser-spotted Altior? Thought it was just a bad scope, is Punchestown a possibility? Didn’t even hear him mentioned for Aintree. Appreciate they are taking it slowly as he’s only 11.
