There’s no problem with a good jumper running in a handicap.
But does Champ jump well enough to risk such a valuable horse in a competitive handicap AP?

That said, can’t remember Nicky running a potentially top class chaser in a handicap.

True, Gladiateur. Having been at Newbury to see them I should’ve remembered the Hennessey. Hennessey is – other than being a good race in its own right – an established Cheltenham trial. Other than the Hennessey?

Probably not but he’s a 9 year old gelding who has never jumped a fence in open company. Not going to get any more valuable standing in the stable.

Sick to death of Nicky ‘its all about one day in March’ Henderson.

I actually wish he would sod off. Bad for the sport.

Forgetting about the way he campaigns his charges – Nicky seems like a good man and I’ve always liked him. Was well pleased when he regained the champion trainer title a few years ago. The one guy I’ve never taken to is Nicholls, a shifty cove in my book -and I hate the way he shifts his weight from one leg to the other when he’s being interviewed.

As I said one Page One of this thread, the one thing that really pissed me off last season, was him mentioning several times that Altior was being considered for Ryanair/Gold Cup. People understandably bet him for those races as a result of that. Come the very day of the initial entry stage for all three races, he decides to inform us that he wouldn’t be getting an entry in the Ryanair or Gold Cup.

This season all he talks about is The Champion Chase being the #1 target, but come the day for the initial entries for those races, he decides to tell us Altior is getting an entry in The Ryanair.

It’s just very poor, and it looks deliberately misleading to me. I don’t think for a second that he’s betting in these markets, but I’m sure someone further down his chain is making a skin off of it. He’s not that naive that he doesn’t realise people will bet off the back of these misleading comments. For the record, I didn’t bet him in any race last season or this.

I don’t particularly care about the betting angles, just fed up of him rubbishing the entire season save 4 bloated days every March. Awful for the sport.

Tatling- while it’s an entirely valid criticism, Henderson isn’t alone in doing that.

I would never go as far as not backing Henderson’s horses. As far as betting is concerned, I am a complete mercenary and am perfectly OK with making money from trainers I do not like. However, it is quite clear that Henderson holds the common punter in complete contempt. The Binocular incident was the worst example and nothing he has said and done since has changed that.

My stand in is getting a lot of grief here.

    Vtc,
If a horse is being considered for a race it does not mean it will run in the race.
If a trainer considers a horse for a particular race and then decides not to run, of course he’s not going to enter it in the race. Punters who backed the horse ante-post only have themselves to blame.

And now the master trainer tells us Champ will not run in the Cotswold Chase. He is being aimed at the Denman Chase at Newbury instead. A clear sign Santini will run in the Cotswold, like last year?

Still think backing Champ for the Stayers Hurdle is a good idea.

tbh CAS, whenever JP has a runner I don’t take any notice of what the trainer says on targets or much else. Suspect all trainers are just telling the public what JP’s team has told them. Take anything about horses from that particular owner with a pinch of salt.

Santini also entered for the Haydock Grand National Trial over 3m4f set to carry top-weight.
    Why is he entered?

Because he won’t win a GC but could run well in a GN …..

Santini also entered for the Haydock Grand National Trial over 3m4f set to carry top-weight.
    Why is he entered?

Because last night Nicky and Sophie were having a zoom wine tasting get together with the Harringtons, and Kate was laughing at the social media fallout after Nicky’s 50:50 for the Cotswold comment, and Jessie dared him to enter the horse for Haydock and bet him a bottle of Chateau Lafite he wouldn’t, so he took the bet on condition that she buys him a case of it if he actually runs the horse in the race. They screenshotted the entry and whatsapped it to Lydia captioned “HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES??”, fell about laughing, downed a whisky chaser and bid each other good night.
