For a trainer that revolves everything around Cheltenham and doesn’t run his horses is in danger of being top of the trainers championship soon.
Imagine if he ran them…Blackbeard to conquer the World
December 26, 2021 at 14:42 #1574584The NH season won’t miss him when he retires, moaning ass Nick.
December 26, 2021 at 14:48 #1574586Nicky Henderson (and Nico De Boinville) get so much unfair online criticism it’s unreal.
Epatante’s run in both the Fighting Fifth and this – what more do you want by Boxing Day?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 26, 2021 at 14:53 #1574590But she will now be wrapped up in cotton wool until Cheltenham before Honeysuckle stuffs her.
December 26, 2021 at 14:56 #1574591She will go for the Mares I would imagine.
You’ve only got to read Hendersons nonsense regarding Champ to gather why he gets a fair bit of stick. “No suitable left handed chases for Champ”. Before running in a right handed hurdle race. He must think folk are thick as castle walls.

December 26, 2021 at 15:04 #1574596She cannot win the Champion but she will also lose in the Mares if she goes there. She was all out and looked at the end of her tether at the finish today to beat two horses who are way off Championship level. I cannot see how an extra half mile will help her.
At least the prize money for second or third in the Champion is good – but if she was mine she would pick up some more in the Kingwell en route.
December 26, 2021 at 15:40 #1574620Epetante has had back trouble and – for me – still doesn’t jump as well as she did in her Champion hurdle season. That said, it was a better display today so could yet improve in that department and therefore improve her form. To my eyes travels so well and doesn’t find as much under pressure as you might expect. Doubt she’ll be as effective at 2 1/2 – especially around a stiff course like Cheltenham. However – as ever – when it comes to March options are kept open for McManus horses.
Value Is EverythingDecember 26, 2021 at 17:37 #1574659I don’t get the grief that Henderson , looking after his horses , seems to generate.
Why not do so , and ensure that they turn up in tip top condition on the big day.
Owners know how he operates before they send their horses to him , so they are presumably are in agreement. Therefore what has it got to do with anyone else ?December 26, 2021 at 21:07 #1574706tbh I don’t think it is solely about Cheltenham for Henderson. It’s about the Festivals. Yes, Cheltenham is number one target but fact is the three biggest festivals all come in the spring. Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown. Punchestown is pretty new and was a time Aintree wasn’t much bar the Grand National. Admittedly vast majority of horses will only run in two (at most) of the three… But with Aintree and Punchestown being financially worth more and meaning more in prestige than they used to – obviously Spring is going to be the time trainers aim for. Not just Henderson; he’s is just the trainer that admits it.
Value Is EverythingDecember 26, 2021 at 21:19 #1574714Certain he said before today’s win that all being ell if won today she will go for mare hurdle and not the champion hurdle

December 26, 2021 at 21:31 #1574717Love Nicky Henderson, so what if he chats sh!t from time to time (in response to Tatling regarding Nicky’s comments on Champ), most people have jobs that require them to talk some rubbish. If you follow trends you can make good money of Nicky, always targets the same races at Sandown each year and more often than not has his top novice hurdlers and chasers out during a 1-2 week spell. – Case in point being a week or two ago (smoked A LOT since the last couple weeks so my memories incredibly hazy lol) he had all his top novices out and all the good ones p*ssed up.
People need to spend more time studying trainers habits, rather than studying trainers words.
If you were a trainer would you tell the public everything? Or would you keep that stuff close to your chest at the benefit of your owners who are the ones who actually pay you.
We are creatures of habit, especially when winning, just follow the patterns.
December 27, 2021 at 10:31 #1574764Chachun Pour Soi a non runner today.
Was smashed in the Tingle Creek
Would be about 3 pages of posts if Henderson was the trainerMy Drogo unfortunately out for the season these things happen, horses are fragile yet if he were a Henderson horse this forum would find a way to blame him
Blackbeard to conquer the World
December 27, 2021 at 10:37 #1574767100% agree Nathan.
It has become really fashionable – not just here but all over social media – to slate Nicky Henderson.
And yet owners keep sending him great material – like Jonbon.
The reason?
My guess is the owners are as obsessed with the Cheltenham Festival as anyone and the Sevenbarrows operation has a great track record at the Festival.
Henderson just gives his owners what they want, I reckon.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 27, 2021 at 11:21 #1574777I like him, his record speaks for itself – however, he does regularly infuriate me. I actually think the Altior v Cyrname left a mark, not just on both horses, but him. After that, he won’t run horses he doesn’t feel are ready…..
January 6, 2022 at 22:09 #1576837Looks like we will have to do without the great man’s thoughts this weekend:
January 6, 2022 at 22:29 #1576841Yep, he spent too much time in Shiskin’s box.
January 7, 2022 at 01:16 #1576855The blokes a prick. Hope he retires soon.
