Down Royal 1/11/2013
:
So after I adjusted the speed figure forThe King Of Brega
due to the quick conditions I ended up with a figure of
118
which puts him approx
24lbs
ahead of his official mark of
94
, the official handicapper this morning must be spitting feathers after only putting him up
13lbs
for his
Thurles
win.
The handicapper put up
The King Of Brega
by
23lbs
to a new official mark of
117
, that’s
36lbs
in two runs
November 7, 2013 at 11:51 #457518Another one for Gigginstown,
Wrath Of Titans
, runs in the bumper at Thurles today. He’s move from Gordon Elliott to Dessie Hughes since finishing second to Moyle Park in the Land Rover and will be interesting to see how he goes today. I’d like to think he’ll win well and have taken 4/5.
November 8, 2013 at 11:50 #457637Wrath Of Titans
was made to work hard but got the job done thankfully. Looks to have a good attitude.

This weekend’s racing in Ireland is the best on these shores so far this season imo. So many promising horses declared to run with a few confirmed "top top" ones.
NAAS SATURDAY
Diakali runs in a Grade 3 two mile 4 yo hurdle. He’s a likable horse who battleswell, be interesting to see if he can concede weight to his three rivals here, particularly Mr Fiftyone who won easily in Fairyhouse on Wednesday.
Turnandgo runs in the third race, a two mile maiden hurdle, and he’s the one I’m most looking forward to tomorrow. There are some promising horses up against him, such as The Tullow Tank, but he should win. Irish Racing have made an error with his forecast price of 5/2 imo, doubt he’ll be that sort of price.
The 2.00 is a beginners’ chase of 2m 3f, featuring Road To Riches, You Must Know Me, Golanbrook, Operating among others. Plenty of winners sure to come out of this race.
There could be a good clash in the bumper with Noel Meade’s Gigginstown-owned Wounded Warrior (a full brother to Sword Of Destiny) up against Shaneshill representing Willie Mullins and the Wylies. Irish Racing have both forecast at 6/1, strongly doubt that will happen.
NAVAN SUNDAY
The second racecould be a cracker, even with only four runners. No disrespect to King Of The Picts but I think this is a match between Very Wood and Minella Foru. Given that IR have the former at 13/20 and the latter at 5/1 I know which one I’d be backing. If Minella Foru is 5/1 I’ll eat my hat. And then I’ll back him. I reckon Very Wood will be fav alright but there won’t be that much of a difference between them.
Rule The World takes on the evergreen Captain Cee Bee over 2m 4f in the Lismullen Hurdle. Captain Cee Bee was impressive last time out but I’d be hoping Rule The World, a live outsider for the World Hurdle, will continue on an upward curve and take this.
Flemenstar returns in the Fortria, which he won last year. There are only three horses in opposition: Days Hotel, Realt Mór and Rubert.
The two mile beginners’ chase, like the beginners’ on the Naas card, should produce winners galore. Marlbrook was hugely impressive winning his maiden hurdle in March and he has a big reputation. It’s impossible to know how good he is. Some Tikket has shown excellent form left handed and is a horse I’m hoping could become Grade 1 material. Throw in Minsk, Princeton Plains and Miley Shah and we’ve a serious race. If Some Tikket is 6/1 (Irish Racing) then he’ll do for me, although I’d be afraid of Marlbrook who could be anything.
LIMERICK SUNDAY
The only horse who interests me here is The Paparazzi Kid in the 2m 3f beginners’ chase. He’s forecast at 7/1 which would be Christmas come early.

7/1 was Hans Christian Andersen stuff, went off 9/10 and won easily.
November 16, 2013 at 08:32 #458521The performance that caught my eye yesterday was
Next Sensation
who ran in the 1.45 at
Newcastle
.
Put up
13lbs
for his win at
Plumpton
to a new mark of
118
he simply routed the field, I had his performance yesterday on the clock
11lbs
ahead of his official handicap of
118
on
129
, he can be assessed even higher.
The going allowance for Newcastle was
+0.02s/f
(good)
November 29, 2013 at 10:45 #460134Middling card at Fairyhouse tomorrow but a few nice horses running all the same.
Gordon Elliott’s
Cause Of Causes
runs in a Grade B handicap chase worth over thirty grand. His runs over fences have been well below what he’s done over hurdles but he’s been flying home at the finish in a number of these races if you know what I mean. Not sure when his day will come but it’s likely there will be
a
day.
Some Tikket
and
Foxrock
go head to head in a 2m 5f beginners’ chase. I had a right cut at Some Tikket last time out but he fell at the last when challenging for the lead. The Shepherd King won that day and he goes in the same race as Cause Of Causes. Foxrock is a really likable animal, last seen staying on strongly over 2m 3f behind Road To Riches. Both will be 3m chasers in time I would think, should be a good race tomorrow. Willie Mullins’
Touch The Eden
will probably be popular with punters, last season finishing fourth behind Bright New Dawn.
The most interesting runner on the card is
Flat Out
, who was last seen taking a fall when going very well in a Grade 1 novice chase at Leopardstown in January 2011. I’d given up hope on seeing him again so it was a nice surprise to see his name on the card. He runs in a 2m handicap hurdle where
Captain Cee Bee
is top weight.
There’s a couple of interesting ones in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle too.
Presenting Beara
improved for the step up in trip when winning in a photo last time at Punchestown, while
Líon Na Bearnaí
‘s hurdle rating is some 45 lbs below his chase rating

See Foxrock priced up around 7/4. Personally, I wouldn’t touch it at 4/1. I like the horse but consistently running over the wrong trip and being ridden for pace by a 7lb claimer.
November 30, 2013 at 13:10 #460364Agree Stilvi, nice horse but too short in the betting and I’d have concerns about the ground too.
It’s hard to see any value in that race. I like Some Tikket but have reservations about the ground and going right handed.
Any of those or the likes of Touch The Eden, Operating, Mullanaghoe River or Rye Martini cold realistically win. Not even tempted to back anything each way, what with 17 runners and 3 places, looks a race to avoid altogether!
November 30, 2013 at 14:21 #460385A really average ride yet again. As with The Tullow Tank the horse has got both jockey and punters out of trouble. Decent jock would have won that with relative comfort. As it is the horse has had a harder race than should have been required.
December 6, 2013 at 10:27 #460900Felix Yonger
takes on
Trifolium
in a four runner novice chase at Navan tomorrow.
Faugheen
declared elsewhere on the card, not much opposition to him however.
December 6, 2013 at 12:44 #460908NAVAN SATURDAY
12.15 Maiden Hurdle
JP McManus has no fewer than seven horses entered in this, expect to see four or five held up for late runs
The market is likely to revolve around Willie Mullins’ newcomerVautour
and the Dessie Hughes horse,
Lieutenant Colonel
. These Ricci / Gigginstown head to heads are becoming more regular and it’s an interesting sideshow to the racing itself. Lieutenant Colonel showed a good attitude to gain a narrow win in a Punchestown bumper for which there were a number of horses well fancied. There’s been good word for Vautour though and I’d give him the nod.
Irish Racing website forecast prices: Vautour 5/2, Lieutenant Colonel 5/1… No chance, suspect Vautour in particular will be a lot shorter.
12.45 Mares’ Maiden Hurdle
Could be another on for Mullins here, this time for Gigginstown.
Urticaire
won five bumpers in France and will probably be favourite. Aidan O’Brien runs Beach Of Falesa, who’s rated 98 on the flat so will no doubt be popular.
IR: Beach Of Falesa 5/2, Urticaire 4/1… Urticaire definitely too big here.
1.15 Novice Hurdle
Faugheen
runs here and I’ll be gutted if he gets beaten, actually I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t win easily – I think he’s an exceptional talent. He’ll probably be very short
Empire Of Dirt
looks the main opposition. He ran well behind Apache Stronghold at the same venue two weeks ago.
No forecast prices for the rest of the card yet…
2.20 Novice Chase
A small field here, three of which are trained by WP Mullins. The Paparazzi Kid and Passage Vendome are decent horses but this is likely to go to either
Felix Yonger
or
Trifolium
. I thought the latter could be an Arkle horse last season, he had his problems but was very impressive on his reappearance. However, Felix Yonger beat a very good horse in Defy Logic at Punchestown and I’m a big fan. My fancy for the Jewson, I hope he wins tomorrow.
3.30 Bumper
Sizing Brisbane
was hot favourite when getting turned over at Punchestown in February, he could be worth giving another chance.

Rather more runners than I would ideally like to see but I will be keeping an eye on Noble Endeavour who cost a few Euros and is a full brother to the promising but ill-fated Benign Dictator from the family of Mole Board. Perhaps a surprise given the pedigree that he isn’t starting off in a bumper.
December 6, 2013 at 18:58 #460969I’ll keep an eye on him Stilvi… 27 runners

Faugheen 1/2, don’t expect that to last long!
Double with Felix Yonger pays 6/4.
Felix is 4/6 which is probably about right, I wouldn’t have him any bigger though. I think Faugheen should be 1/4 so the double appeals as I don’t want to lump on a 1/2 shot.
December 6, 2013 at 19:08 #460971Faugheen 1/3 now already.

Still needs to improve his jumping but it was an improvement on the first day and he looks to have a massive engine. Very happy with him. Empire Of Dirt was a good second.2.20 Novice Chase
