I will be following Sizing Rio in Novice Chases. He was a decent Novice Hurdler last season and has been sent straight over fences. Entered at Tipperary on Sunday and will hopefully end up in the Arkle or more likely the Jewson.
October 2, 2013 at 11:51 #453249Think the Jewson is the best you can hope for. Made a decent start to chasing in May but those races are often lack form of any substance. Also, Heron Island’s rarely make good chasers.
October 25, 2013 at 10:00 #456073Very Wood
out in a maiden hurdle at Galway on Sunday, while both
Faugheen
and
Turnandgo
entered at Punchestown next week.
I love seeing the good bumper animals going over hurdles and likewise the good hurlers tackling fences, exciting times

Got that
Very Wood
in ‘my stable’ Tommy, lovely prospect so thanks for the early heads up.
October 25, 2013 at 10:05 #456076Looked a nice horse when winning his bumper Boz, and there was big word about for him prior to that. With Noel Meade now.
October 25, 2013 at 10:10 #456077Is Love Alive
looks another interesting Gigginstown newcomer entered in that race. Former pointer with a decent pedigree, could be worth a watch.
October 25, 2013 at 10:50 #456081Which race Boz?
Is Love Alive
not declared for Sunday, although he’s entered at Naas and Punchestown next week.
October 25, 2013 at 10:51 #456082Very Wood’s only opposition looks to be Blow The Doors Off, who is respected having finished close up behind Akorakor and Concordin at Fairyhouse.
October 25, 2013 at 10:58 #456084Think he must have come out in the final decs after I wrote that. One to keep an eye on though.

Neither Faugheen nor Turnandgo declared tomorrow unfortunately.
October 31, 2013 at 02:59 #4567703 promising Irish novice chasers; Don Cossack, Defy Logic and Morning Assembly. Early days of course
November 1, 2013 at 11:34 #456868Good NH card at Cork on Sunday.
The Game Changer
runs in a maiden hurdle while I fancy
Felix Yonger
to prove best in a hot novice chase. Irishracing.com has The Game Changer forecast price as 5/1. Mullins and Ricci have one in there but even allowing for that, 5/1 is the stuff of fairy tales I reckon. They have Felix Yonger at 5/2 which would be great value, and another I think they are wrong on in that race is Sizing Rio at 11/1: it wouldn’t surprise me if he was second fav.
There’s a good beginners chase at Down Royal today too, with Rye Martini, Mullanaghoe River, Seefood and Gold Bullet involved.
November 1, 2013 at 13:03 #456883A fairly obvious one which i’ve mentioned before but Oscar Rock just breezed in at Wetherby. Neptune bound, surely, although why have the owners switched from Harry Fry to Jefferson ?
Have they moved house ?Really is a cracking horse.
November 1, 2013 at 17:22 #456896Not sure they moved house, but the reason given for moving their horse was to be closer to home. Impressive today too…

The majority of time you have to take the official going discriptions given out by the clerks of the courses in Ireland with a big pinch of salt.
One of the perks of being a speed handicapper is occasionally you come across a performance that takes your breath away, and that’s what happened to me yesterday at Down Royal.
The official going given out for the hurdles course was
GOOD TO YIELDING (Yielding in places)
and straight away I spot a problem, in the 1.35 you had a
94
rated horse
The King Of Brega
achieving a time (fast by 7.80s) and in the 2.35 you had
Jezki
with an official rating of
161
(slow by 28.90s).
Anyway after I worked out my going allowance, I ended up with the hurdle course riding (firm) and the chase course (good to firm).
Just how good is
The King Of Brega
, I loved the course correspondence assessment on how far he was ahead of the handicapper:
it was easy to see why as he´s half-a-ladder ahead of the handicapper never mind a few steps, the result was never in doubt for any part of the final half-mile and he could have won by double the margin he did.
When I worked out the speed figures at
0.00s/f
per furlong, I was looking at a speed rating of
159
for
The King Of Brega
, not bad as I had a speed figure for
Jezki
Cheltenham festival run of
152
.
So after I adjusted the speed figure for The
King Of Brega
due to the quick conditions I ended up with a figure of
118
which puts him approx
24lbs
ahead of his official mark of
94
, the official handicapper this morning must be spitting feathers after only putting him up
13lbs
for his
Thurles
win.
The King Of Brega
goes to the top of my note book

Happy with my predictions here! Felix Yonger was around the Evens mark before being pulled out, while Sizing Rio went off 13/8 fav in his absence, won as he liked but I didn’t back him. There was a monster gamble on The Game Changer from 7/2 to 11/8 fav, and he duly obliged, looks a smart animal.
I’ve yet too see Azorian’s win today but I’ve been told he was very impressive.

by
23lbs
, that’s
36lbs
in two runs
