That’ll really encourage families to go along to the races.
February 16, 2015 at 18:52 #751161I think it was Aintree where I had my bag searched for food and drink and a woman in front of me had food confiscated.
February 16, 2015 at 19:10 #751165Another shot in the foot for racing. A sports track where men try to get half-ton animals leaping fences at 30mph bans picnics on ‘health & safety’ grounds.
F*&*c*g idiots
February 16, 2015 at 19:27 #751168They are providing extra food outlets though

Quite!

Yeah £4.00 for a hot dog with cold onions no doubt.

Maybe it’s something to do with the old saying about "Taking Coleslaw to Newcastle"?

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 16, 2015 at 20:52 #751183I think someone is taking the coleslaw!
Nothing to do with Elf & Safety, plenty to do with making racegoers put their hands in their pockets for food & drink!
February 16, 2015 at 21:07 #751184Is this not something that’s creeping in more and more at sporting events?
I say that as a rugby fan who’s experienced silly rules being brought in lately, out of the hands of the club I support.
Think it will spread around others unfortunately….health & safety going bonkers!
February 16, 2015 at 22:51 #751193Myself and my family went to Perth racecourse about 5 years ago and were refused entry with our pic nic as they weren’t aloud the steward on the gate explained it was because food venders paid a lot of money to sell there food at the racecourse and it was not fair on them if people brought in there own food and this was on there family day were they were putting on displays and entertainment for families
February 16, 2015 at 22:57 #751194I applaud Newcastle – I don’t want families at racecourses either.
Racecourses should be the sole domain of Neeky blokes who inhabit internet forms and speak rudely to each other and equestrian women who love horses and like to have fifty pence each way on them.
This modern practice of attracting normal people to the races for alfresco drinking sessions is equally appalling.

Clever stuff, Steve. Was trying to pun my way through it too, and couldn’t come up with ‘owt, though I did like some of the tweets mentioning a ‘blanket ban on picnics)
February 17, 2015 at 09:17 #751215Pretty sure the customers will vote with their feet ….just mind blowingly stupid …take a bow Newcastle , you are the envy of the world ….the sign outside says , Families stay away , we just do not care !!!
Just how did they get to make this decision , implement it , without anybody in their management structure laughing it into the wastepaper bin !!!
February 17, 2015 at 09:53 #751217The management probably got fed up with the family’s complaining about the paying drunks rowdy behaviour and foul language.

You photographers better nic a few pics while you still can
Will this do?
No not really, I agree
February 17, 2015 at 11:53 #751227Far better to keel over from a skin-full of overpriced, warm, flat racecourse ale (probably served by a temp on minimum wage) than let working class families picnic on your lawn.
"Good management" and "Sporting Institution" shouldn’t appear in any sentence relating to Geordieland these days.
A boycott would be sound.
February 17, 2015 at 22:50 #751289The BHA and new man Rust will sort it.
Then we’ll all be glad they picked Nick.
