“Time to back the Tories then, Ginge.

After all, value (and the stupidity of the general public) is everything”.

    ——————

No! Am not going to back the Tories because I can see them drifting a lot more if Truss does what she says she’s going to do – and the cost of living crisis gets worse.
…And the general public are not “stupid”.
I’ve already backed Labour @ 11/10 to win most seats at the next general election.

“And the general public are not “stupid”.”

We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.

But if there weren’t more idiots than sensible people, your value theory wouldn’t hold much water. 😉

I’ll never forget Robin Cooks resignation speech. I stood next to him at Newbury by one of the fences one year and didn’t have the courage to speak to him; I’ve always regretted it. When my daughter was studying history I got her to listen to his speech: he died on her wedding day. Put a bit of a damper on the day although I didn’t know about it till quite late in the evening. I’ll always remember him saying ‘ my face is against me’. I admired him so much.

1.04 Truss, 24 Sunak – this is the shortest she’s been and the result will be announced a week tomorrow.

As we enter the final week of Boris Johnson’s tenure as Prime Minister and the prospect of Liz Truss taking over, I couldn’t help thinking of this clip:

Looks like no more stops en route for “The Truss Bus,” it’s heading straight for the terminus, which it expects to be No 10 Downing Street.

BBC: “Liz Truss has pulled out of a BBC One interview with Nick Robinson that was due to air on Tuesday evening. Ms Truss’ team said she could no longer spare the time for the one-on-one programme, the BBC said in a statement. Rishi Sunak, Ms Truss’ rival for the Conservative leadership, was interviewed by Robinson on 10 August. The ballot of Tory party members closes on Friday, with the winner set to be announced next Monday, 5 September.”

    1.05 Truss, 20 Sunak.

I believe voting closes at 5pm tomorrow and the result will be announced at 5pm on Monday.

If Sunak wins now it will be a shock ranked alongside the Labour landslide against national war hero Winston Churchill at the end of WWII back in the days when there were no opinion polls.

That said, Leave was trading at 15 at Betfair minutes before the first batch of regional voting results were announced on Brexit night!

I have to admire your stamina Ian, you seem to have retained some level of enthusiasm throughout. Truss is finally rounding the Elbow of this marathon contest with Sunak still jumping the second last. I got bored somewhere on the first circuit.

I also in an odd way admire the Conservative party. Every time you think they have delivered the worst PM ever, there’s another one waiting in the wings to claim the title.

Will there be a Devon Loch moment?

    Nah.

    Abso-Fing-lutely.

I have heard it said that the clever thing about new fashion is it grabs centre stage while simultaneously contriving to make its immediate predecessor look absurd.

The Tory Party seems to have managed the exact opposite.

I never thought there would be a more ludicrous PM than Boris Johnson.

And yet the very next one looks poised to make him look a colossus by way of comparison.

1.04 Truss, 21 Sunak – back to the shortest she’s been.
