October 3, 2018 at 16:01 #1376284I remember it always used to be the William Hill Futurity when I was growing up
October 4, 2018 at 10:20 #1376315This will be the race’s fifth incarnation since it was introduced in the early ’60s
Timeform Gold Cup
Observer Gold Cup
William Hill Futurity
Racing Post Trophy
Vertem Futurity TrophyThe original meaning of a Futurity Race was “a horse race for young horses for which entries are made long in advance, sometimes before the horses are born”
Don’t think this applies, or has ever applied, to the Doncaster event
I believe Futuritys, named as such in the original sense, are run in North America. Please confirm or refute Stateside devotees

Who are ya? Who are ya?
Apologies; that was my inner football hooligan slipping out.

What a delightful photo, you can manage my assets any day of the week
Have a great day out you bright young things
As for the name, a rapid Googlie tells me that in Portuguese vertem is the third-person plural of verter to leak/pour/spill, so they leak/pour/spill which doesn’t immediately strike as an ideal name for a financial services outfit
