March 15, 2017 at 14:02 #1292301Well done WC backers
Yard chose wrong race for the Wolf. Ground softer yesterday and would have settled better. He showed from some of his mid race moves he has plenty of speed. They’ll be kicking themselves…and if they aren’t, I’ll happily do it for them
March 15, 2017 at 14:04 #1292303Willoughby Court @ 14/1.
Boom. Like a boss

Well done Charlie.
Fell in to your lap.
They let Willoughby have a couple of lengths clear whist the pace was slowish. Fehily didn’t have much choice as Neon didn’t settle fully either to post or in the race early. At least he kept fairly prominent. Neon Wolf must be a good horse the way a lot went wrong. Messire ran his race so form stacks up. It proved impossible to come from the back. My outsider, Brelade made some ground when the pace was at its strongest, but paid for it. I thought Willoughby would struggle for pace today; wrong! Although everything went perfect, can see him doing even better at 3m+ – especially over fences. Fine looker.Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2017 at 14:05 #1292304I think he just ran into a hot one Joe and if he hadn’t stumbled just after the last would have won.
Despite being a heavily backed favourite and one of the “hype horses” of the festival I would argue that Neon Wolf enhanced his reputation today. And I don’t think he needs soft ground at all.
Can see him gaining some compensation at Aintree if they aim him at one of the hurdles there.
all of the front three are lovely horses for the future.
March 15, 2017 at 17:30 #1292374Well done to the WC backers, disappointed with the wolf!!
March 15, 2017 at 18:39 #1292395Think WC improved for the going rather than being less effective on it whereas NW probably would prefer more give and would have won anyway bar mistake at the last. Still slightly disappointing.
March 15, 2017 at 18:40 #1292396As I expected is wasn’t very easy race for Neon Wolf, he is not a greatest novices we have seen this year. He is on true OR below 150. It wasn’t outstanding Neptune, rather poor I would say (also poor time comparing to Coral Cup). NW wouldn’t have won Supreme anyhow (Elgin well beaten into 7th position and River Wylde, which easily beat Elgin at Kempton, finished just 3rd 10L behind the winner). Conclusion: Neon Wolf is not one of the greatest novices we have seen this season, neither Charli Parcs…(sorry to say that as a big fan of this horse). I would say Mega Fortune will beat CP in the Triumph on Friday. I don’t even mention DDS and his miraculous mark 155 – he would get prize money in Champion Hurdle if he is so good as his rating says haha.
March 15, 2017 at 22:19 #1292472I think it’s a little churlish to say Neon Wolf should have gone for the Supreme. Not for the first time (does he EVER shut up about Vautour?) I think Steeplechasing is forming his views on what best suited his pocket!
Willoughby Court was already established as a borderline 160 horse and Neon Wolf actually had to improve to get near him. The winner was a little flattered by enjoying an easy lead in a steadily-run race but his Warwick performance shows he was hardly winning this out of turn. He certainly proved my Warwick pace bias theory wrong and showed he’s more than a soft ground bully. I wouldn’t be dogmatic about Willoughby Court developing into an Gold Cup horse since his yard are so flaky, but his versatility and attitude will help. I think next year’s most exciting staying novices will come from Friday’s potentially BEST EVER Albert Bartlett.
Trainers know their horses better than we do. Harry Fry’s decision to swerve the Supreme shows that Neon Wolf lacks the pace to compete at that trip. He didn’t lose anything in defeat and remains a very exciting prospect.
Messire Des Obeaux did his part by landing the each-way chisel. Perhaps he was unlucky not to finish a bit closer to the first two after getting bumped around on the home turn, but he was certainly third best. His rock solid mid 150s credentials makes the first two look smart.
Of the rest, Skipthecuddles should make a belting staying chaser for a yard who specialise in those types. You also have to forgive Bacardys after he was badly hampered, with the ground lively enough for him in any case. Anticipating a huge price difference between him and the winner, I’d be tempted to back Bacardys for the RSA. He’d need it soft though.
March 15, 2017 at 22:52 #1292488I think Willoughby Court is going under the radar here. Backed at 16’s and 14’s and half tempted to go in again.
What a touch.

What a touch. We had it yesterday and we will have it tomorrow
March 15, 2017 at 23:09 #1292504It’s so boring but Neon Wolf is quick and the rest of them are likely slow, with the possible exception of Brelade, who I like EW.
Lazy Zark
March 15, 2017 at 23:10 #1292506I feel very strongly that Neon Wolf is a born chaser and that he’ll go over fences next season. They won’t want to expose him to staying chases just yet so I think with his natural speed he’s an ideal candidate for the arkle. He could go JlT but less likely. After that they’ll step him up in trip for races like the king george and gold cup, if all goes to plan.
Willoughy court will go RSA and possibly Messire des obeaux Arkle/JlT although don’t think it’s impossible they’ll keep him to hurdles and aim him at champion hurdle especially with their supposed stable star yanworth being so disappointing.

Yes we get it Charlie, you’re a genius….
March 16, 2017 at 08:07 #1292586I don’t think they’d bother aiming Messire at the Champion Hurdle. He has less room for improvement than the other two and is about 15lbs short of the standard.
Probably best to kill time by going chasing before he gets ironed out again.

March 16, 2017 at 08:13 #1292591Divin Bere beats Master Blueyes.
Charli Parcs beats Master Blueyes.
Master Blueyes beats Flying Tiger.
Master Blueyes beats Charli Parcs.
Flying Tiger beats Divin Bere.Based on this, I’d look for a rag that has been beaten by all of them and Defi….

I’ve been on the Charli Parcs bandwagon for a long time. How bullish Henderson is and the significant money must mean he is a good animal. But the way the festival has gone for me, nothing would surprise me as the outcome of this race.
