Usually aboutthis time of year i number crunch all my bets…
Not good reading my bets are usually from £5 win to £20 win…and i only bet national hunt racing.
Here goes……
NH WIN SINGLES 181 BETS -£1,050(NOT GOOD <!– s:( –>
<!– s:( –> )
PLACEPOTS 205 BETS -£758(AGAIN NOT GOOD <!– s:( –>
<!– s:( –> )ONLINE POKER (PLAYING IN SMALL $5/$10 TOURNEYS ON SUNPOKER) +£850!!!!!!!!!!!
NOT VERY GOOD MUST TRY HARDER!!!!
December 21, 2008 at 21:17 #198472A quick calculation tells me you have put around 2.3 thousand pounds on horses……Ginge can work out the rest of that equation

GFHost far be it for me to tell you what to do but if you have your hand s on that type of money I would be loking to split that 2k into no more than 10 bets over the rest of the season………I defy anyone to back 181 horses at 12.5 quid and show a profit worth bothering about.
If it is your form of entertianment the I suppose 1000 quid over the period isn’t bad value;
But my adise for all it’s worth means:-
1. You will be more picky about what ou bet.
2. Your 200 quid best could become 500 quid bets very quickly or more.
3. You might get bored shitless watching a lot of the time without backing
December 21, 2008 at 23:04 #198488To be honest most of my bets are £5 win
But im truely a mug punter!!!!!!!
December 21, 2008 at 23:19 #198491Perhaps you should join the TRF poker you seem in good profit on that.
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
December 21, 2008 at 23:28 #198494Indeed Ghost – the TRF poker is hosted by Ladbrokes, drop me a PM if you’re interested and I’ll tell you how to go about it. $5 game every Tuesday, $10 game every Saturday and a free seat in Ladrokes weekly $100,000 game to the person scoring most points in our monthly league every month.
December 21, 2008 at 23:37 #198496cool yes ill do that
December 22, 2008 at 04:11 #198579Ghost, you should really think of giving the horses a by, to be honest.
Not being horrible, but you should just give it up.

your probably right mate
or concentrate more on the placepots, after checking my records i had a few big payouts on that that helped the debt!!!
I just wonder how many other punters know how much they are winning/losing over a season???

Na mate don’t give up racing just bet less…..Here’s a tip…. 3 x 5 quid doubles and a tenner treble every Saturday..back nothing else and I guarantee you will make money inless you are the worst judge in the world…….one treble up can easily cover your entire years betting. Go for it!!!!
December 22, 2008 at 17:34 #198647I’m £200 down in five years of having a BF account..
That to me is great value for a hobby.. Although it doesn’t take into account on course entrance fees and betting but who cares..
I never worry too much about making money. I do that monday to friday.
December 22, 2008 at 19:22 #198664181 bets to £5 bets only makes up to £905 – i know you said you were between £5-£20 so not entirely accurate but i can only imagine you are backing far to many short priced horses to often
What is your average SP and strike rate?
I wouldn’t all together give up, but suggest taking a back seat from punting, maybe buy a decent betting book and see what you learn then think about paper trading for a while until you feel confident you can turn a profit. Everyone’s betting styles are different and you need to find what works for you, any profitable punter will tell you they didn’t start turning a profit from their first bet they ever placed.
December 22, 2008 at 20:38 #198676Thanks for the advice
Credit crunch and all that (i dont drink or smoke!!)i will be doing smaller bets as i love horse racing and would be quite happy doing £2.50 -£5 win bets plus small placepots.
Its the only hobby ive got, also failed to mention turned in a decent profit in HT/FT football betting (up about £800!!!!)
Thanks once again
December 22, 2008 at 21:18 #198681GOTF,
Don’t give it up if you enjoy it. £20 a week is a cheap hobby, and I can assure you many on here probably lose a lot more.

I used to lose fortunes until I got into riding the damn things..then the penny dropped on how they are so much like us. One day they are up the next day they are down……….when you get close to horses you quickly learn how the least little thing can make the diffrence between them winning and losing.
However like you the money is secondary, sure I like to win but I can watch 10 races on the trot and never even think about betting any of them.
I just love the game and spend hours and hours looking out for something that little bit special…….nothing gives me a better buzz than geting stuck in when I do…..it’s like having a touch on your own racehorse…..or as near to it as I can get these days.If I lost everything I would still watch the racing and it doesn’t matter if you are 200 quid up or 3/4 of a million quid up the buzz is the buzz.
As you say mate 200 quid for 5 years is awesome value to be part of such a great sport.
Happy Hunting

.
December 22, 2008 at 21:30 #198683Fair play Ghost .. cutting the bet size down is a good start.
I like to set aside a certain amount for each year and then play with that. If it all gets lost then that’s it for the year. A 100 point betting bank is good.
December 22, 2008 at 22:07 #198688Ghost,
I would strongly recommend you buy a couple of books on betting. Against the Crowd by Alan Potts and Betting for a Living by Nick Mordin are a couple of books I bought a good few years ago and they changed my whole outlook on betting and, more importantly, helped to change my betting fortunes.
Good luck for 2009 anyway!
December 22, 2008 at 22:52 #198698im normally selective on my bets but got home today from work and seen a market that looked good and made a bet i wouldnt do normally and it went and lost
have a few rules betting wise and not betting in any other country aprt from spain and england in football is one and i broke that today and lost
Never break your own rules a.
