To be honest Foxy ive not taken a note of that!!!
Once again thankyou for all your advice-chasing is my weakness as well i use to pick out 2-3 races i liked put my bets on walk away but i am guilty of chasing.(NO MORE!!!!!!!)
I love racing, and ive always threatened to start up a racing photography site more as a hobby than a money making operation.
But its a good time of year to assess your gambling.
Ill start with smaller bets on Boxing day and take it from there
Happy Christmas everyone x

Ghost when you bet make sure your giving the horse, trainer and jockey no excuses for a bad run then your half way there.
If I bet on a horse and knowing that there no excuse for a bad run then I feel better win or lose as I picked the right horse.
December 22, 2008 at 23:40 #198704Some great advice here guys ill take it all on board.
December 23, 2008 at 00:12 #198708I do most of my betting on course. Have never used Betfair so its all backing, no laying. Tend to look for value and avoid short prices.
This year I’ve been racing 74 times, latest being Hereford today; currently £79 down for the year. I can live with that – its a hobby. Was a bit down last year and a bit up the year before that. So about ten days to get this year into profit.
Biggest priced winner backed this year; Silver Jaro at 66-1 in the County Hurdle.
December 23, 2008 at 00:56 #198711I had been punting for fun for about 15 years, but over the last couple of years I’ve taken things a bit more seriously. Last year was the first year I made any profit of note, and this year I’ve made a profit of just shy of £11,000. I spend my form study time looking for horses that have been plotted up for handicaps, then use the early morning market as a guide to whether the horse is "off" or not.
The hardest part for me now is getting my money on. If you ever start winning on a regular basis you will soon find out what I mean.
December 23, 2008 at 02:29 #198731A very good friend of mine recently started punting hundreds of pounds win singles on horses and football matches. After having initial success, he soon found himself chasing quite heavy losses – so much so that he became very depressed. He phoned me last week to see if he could come over for a chat. He revealed all, after which he confessed he felt like "doing himself in."
Not good. But after a few choice words and some (hopefully) sound advice, he felt much better about himself and admitted that he had acted foolishly and irresponsibly, totally inspired by greed.
Anyhow, to cut a long story short, he implored me to give him just one good thing (a short one) as it happens for the weekend (last weekend) to help pull himself out of the mire. Phew, some people never learn.
Anyway, never kick a man when he’s down, as they say, and knowing full well he’d steam ahead regardless, I offered up Binocular as the good thing he craved, and suggested if he must have his usual amount on, then this was as safe a bet as any.
I haven’t heard from him since.

Would you give an alcoholic a drink if you thought they’d go and have one anyway?

Oh most definitely old chap. Secure in the knowledge that what he’d be getting from me was tip top quality tipple – rather than any old, grasp what you can get your hands on, diarrhoea inducing liquor.

December 23, 2008 at 20:41 #198847Hi Gost
To be honest I think you have already taken the first and very important step to punting sucess in recording your profit and loss. It’s surprising how many people even allegedly sucessful punters fail to do this. It’s already for you revealed your strengths and weaknessesDecember 23, 2008 at 23:48 #198864Thanks Kent
Yes im just going to put on smaller bets, i love a flutter and i dont drink or smoke,i also be more selective with my bets and try to turn a profit by this time next year.
December 24, 2008 at 00:28 #198867GHOST, my advice is to stick a tenner e/w on Halcon Genelardais at 10/1
all things being equal, he wont be out of the 1st 4, should he win, re-invest
25% on an Ante-post fancy i,e Mastercraftsman for the 2,000 gns then spend the rest! My philosophy is as simple as me! Only ever bet on quality
horses in quality races (listed and above) not the donkeys that run on that
All- weather surface or run at Chester and are drawn out in the car park
(stall 2 and above) There is a re-occuring annual pattern to horseracing and its like doing a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle! you can put pieces in place way before the bigger picture can be seen, thats Ante-post betting!
( "Again" will be trained specifically for the 09 Oaks16/1) it takes years to remember the pattern, probably 10yrs hard work mate! but if you dont have an eye for a horses potential you have no chance! Good luck! ( i backed
"Duke of mamalade" to win the King george at 16/1 before last seasons
flat had even started because i saw him run 2nd to "Dylan Thomas" as an
unfurnished 3yo in the Group 1 irish Champion stakes staying on like a champ)December 24, 2008 at 01:06 #198870Yes im just going to put on smaller bets, i love a flutter and i dont drink or smoke,i also be more selective with my bets and try to turn a profit by this time next year.
I love a flutter too. I also drink, smoke and I am technically obese. That is some Lucky 15.
Christmas is such a depressing time of year
December 24, 2008 at 02:10 #198883Thanks MrWilson!!!!
Ide like to think im a good judge of a quality horse (especially Steeplechasers)
Last season i backed Comply or Die at all prices for the national.
Just need to reighn in the amount and size of debts.
December 24, 2008 at 02:22 #198885One rule: bet what you can afford. Nothing more.
So for me thats 10p e/w Lucky 15’s and Yankees! Maybe splash out more on the big meetings (Royal Ascot/Cheltenham etc)!
Only takes one good day (ie winning acca at good odds) to cover many months worth of punting!
