Value Is EverythingNovember 13, 2008 at 14:57 #189535I’ve had a rethink on this and I may be sticking my neck out but I really don’t think Jered is anywhere near good.
Sizing Europe was a hot fav for the Champion Hurdle, he ended up having an easy season due to injury, he’s not a horse who takes a lot of getting ready he won first time out in 06 and would have won but for falling first time out in 07.
It’s a gamble with any horse after a lay off but there’s a mile of difference between a good novice and a CH horse………Jered would be the first I would discount of the upandcoming young horses. I don’t think he’s as good as Binocular or Crack Away Jack despite the fact he has looked good against some fair opposition.
This could be the begining and the end of Jered’s Champion Hurdle campaign. I think the big fellow will kick him right into touch. I’m having the 6/4 which is a great price for what is basically a match.
November 13, 2008 at 17:25 #189561interesting what you say about Jered; I was at a nh preview on Tuesday and one member of the panel said that they though Jered was overhyped this year, mainly because he was somewhat overlooked by connections last year because they thought that other horses they had were better; I rather ignored the comment because Jered seems to be on everyones list of horses to follow this year. [mine included]…last year the same comment was made about Clopf…….
November 13, 2008 at 17:33 #189562Think Jered is a Champion Hurdle horse, and whether he wins at the weekend he still will be a Champ Hurdle horse. I think he has the class and is just a good all rounder, he has the right blend of speed and stamina to be amongst it in the top grade, if ridden well. I wouldnt say he has the speed of Binocular but if stamina was called into play then who knows who would come out on top.
Sizing Europe is definitely a champion hurdle horse, but for many reasons last year wasnt his champion hurdle. The Morgiana will probably just be a test to see who is better on the day, but I think they are quite similar horses, and if either were beaten at the weekend I would give them a second chance at an adjusted price.
November 13, 2008 at 17:59 #189564Would be fairly confident that Jered will take this on Sunday. Noel’s horses are absolutely flying and a lot of De Bromhead’s are needing the run. His run at Down Royal suggested that he’s not as ground dependent as most of us would have thought initially. It was bottomless when he was last beaten in the Royal Bond last year but he was only a shell of a horse then and he’s really filled out and thrived over the last year.
It might take a bit of a leap of faith to expect him to beat Sizing Europe later on in the season though, unless he really gives him a real beating on Sunday.

Jered has bags of pace.. Watch his last two runs.. McCoy was confident enough last time to wait until after the final hurdle to press the button against a champion bumper winner. You don;t do that unless the horse has serious toe. He’s a proper horse in my opinion. Hopefully he’ll dispel this Sizing Europe myth at the weekend and they’ll send that one chasing.
November 15, 2008 at 02:48 #189833I doubt if Sizing Europe’s ability is a myth but the big question must be the ground with him as he’s never performed on it. Some are saying Jered will be ok some are not……… Heavy ground, bit more rain coming? could end up a very uninformative race.
November 16, 2008 at 03:29 #189983it’s unlikely that we will learn anything from this race… Harchibald not running, Hardy Eustace needs further now, Won in the Dark is good but arguable not in this class and that leaves the two.. .what can we learn from a match race at this time of the year?

Jered wasn’t necessarily overlooked last season, he was merely campaigned to avoid JP’s other two Supreme Novices horses (much to the annoyance of Noel Meade, though it was hardly surprising when Captain Cee Bee had previously beaten him).
As has been said he’s strengthened markedly over the summer and couldn’t have been more impressive in beating Cork All Star on his reappearance two weeks ago. He travelled sweetly, as he usually does, and showed a pleasing turn of foot whilst conceding 11lb to the runner up.
He is, as they say, the real deal, and I can’t see Sizing Europe troubling him tomorrow.
November 16, 2008 at 04:47 #189993Really? I think Sizing Europe will eat him alive and he is reportedy in need of the run……Now the question is am I serious or am I just disagreeing with you for the fun of it

That will likely remain one of life’s mysteries, Fists
November 16, 2008 at 06:15 #190007If Harchibald or Hardy win tomorrow Fists you have unprecedented amounts of humble pie to swallow.

Jered is the epitomy of NH – looks outrageously short (to me) on all known current, but at the end of the season i may well read back thorugh the form and think he was outrageously long.
Jered is the epitomy of unexposed.

Have to agree with Fist on this one.
Can’t imagine that even a half-fit Sizing Europe would have treated Cork All Star with any less disdain, and Jered is the one with it all to prove imo.November 16, 2008 at 12:12 #190018McCoy is not coming over to ride Jered. Does that mean he has decided to ride the other horse in the Champion Hurdle? If so Witd may have a sneaking chance.
November 16, 2008 at 14:47 #190031Sizing Europe for me as long as his injury hasn’t left any effect on him. May not be fully tuned up but on form he’s still got a fair bit in hand on Jered and the really soft ground won’t bother Sizing Europe. 9/4 on Betfair that’s big.

November 16, 2008 at 17:17 #190051I think Sizing Europe, though a good horse, is over-rated. I think Jered will beat him today – and decisively.
