I believe that it’s possible there was something wrong with the yard at the time, but that it’s very hard to pull the Champion Hurdle favourite out of the race without conclusive proof – especially if you are a relatively small operator.
I also believe that it’s possible the horse’s wellbeing was intact, and that he injured himself during the Champion Hurdle, causing him to be pulled-up.
Furthermore, I believe that it’s entirely possible that the Morgiana run was indeed due to lack of fitness, and that he will come on plenty for it.
I do not for one minute believe the horse is a dog.
I merely reserve judgement until his next run, when we will surely know a whole lot more. However, given the general consensus that Sizing Europe will surely come on a ton for the Morgiana, I’d expect him to start a fairly short-price for the December Hurdle, and would therefore be inclined to be a layer if he was odds-on.
November 19, 2008 at 04:06 #190573I love HE and was delighted he won i did not back anything in the race as i find that this early in the season previous form does not always stand true (as proved sunday), but while watching the race something remined me of the ’05 AIG i was at, i backed HE that day when he came 3rd to Macs Joy (r.i.p), but what i seen convinced me that he would win the CH that year even though everyone were raving about harchibald, and i had same feeling again sunday that SE will win the CH this season, to me he just ran out of steam his form says that he does not win 1st time out and that HE does, so come March i will be backing SE with confidence
November 19, 2008 at 04:10 #190575I don’t know where you get the idea that his race record suggests HE doesn’t win first time out, batman, but SE won after a 5 month break in 2006, and he was going to win after a 6 month break in 2007, but for falling two out with the race in the bag.
At best, it’s inconclusive – but it doesn’t point to him absolutely needing his first outing.

read again i say sizing europe does not win 1st time out but hardy does.
(in ladbrooks on sunday the in house commentator said over last 3 seasons HE won 1st time out, SE fell last seasons 1st race and did not win previous 2 before that?? i stand to be corrected)
November 19, 2008 at 13:16 #190608Batman, Sizing Europe raced in May 2006, and didn’t race again until October 2006, when he won his first bumper. Technically these outings came in the same season, but practically, the run in October represents a first-time-out effort, imo. He was going to hack-up on his first run in the 2007/2008 season, but fell two out, handing the win to Aitmatov.
I just feel it’s wrong to suggest that SE doesn’t win fto, and that this in itself is a perfectly acceptable excuse for Sunday’s run. That’s all.
November 19, 2008 at 21:32 #190685I doubt if Sizing Europe’s ability is a myth but the big question must be the ground with him as he’s never performed on it.
You obviously weren’t at Cheltenham on one of the wettest days I’ve ever been racing this time last year when he won the Greatwood!

Surely that is not an important issue here? He hardly had his usual preperation and they would obviously not want to be too hard on him after his injury……I hoped he would show he had enough class to beat Jered but the furthest thing from my mind was they would have him 100%,,,,,,,,,,, he did and he wasn’t IMO

You said it on page 2 of this thread!
November 20, 2008 at 05:48 #190758Probably lost in the same substance-induced fug as his tips for Don’t Push It and Exotic Dancer for the Hennessy David!
November 20, 2008 at 17:48 #190830I think if you care to go back and bring forward the full quote instead of part of it so you can have a childish dig at me I was talking about heavy ground with more rain to come= bog heavy ground not soft ground like it was in the Greatwood.
If you care to ask anyone who has ridden in soft ground while raining it is actaully very easy to go through in comparison to very heavy ground which was the fear at the time.
FFS grow up it’s only opinions at the end of the day not "I won the war"
November 20, 2008 at 17:59 #190834I haven’t a clue.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
November 22, 2008 at 08:42 #191283I’m sure you had a few rides on soft ground in your younger days
November 22, 2008 at 18:39 #191343Perhaps worth noting that they were racing on fresh ground in the Morgiana (and indeed the Morgiana was the first race of the day on the fresh ground). While it was certainly soft ground, it wasn’t a bog by any matter of means.
