Lets put the question this way.Who was the best English racehorse EVER,who did not race in the Derby? Who was the best English racehorse EVER who never raced beyond a mile and 1/4? Who was the best English racehorse EVER who never raced in a King George? Who was the best English racehorse EVER who never raced in the Arc? Who was the best English racehorse EVER who never raced outside England? Who was the best English racehorse EVER who never raced in a Breeders Cup?Got it?And the answer is,wait for it FRANKEL of course. But there are so few with such a profile to compare him with.Certainly not Mill Reef
BTW Andrew, you left out NEVER ran stuffed to the hilt with illegal substances as with that old hack Secretariat that you were so fond of.

There’s no illegal substance powerful enough to make a Secretariat.
There’s also no evidence that Secretariat was given any sort of PED. No evidence at all. That sort of thing would have come out at some point.I left that out because I’m not sure Frankel was ever tested for illegal drugs.
Well whereas over there they routinely stuff em full of Mickey Finn, over here they’re randomly tested Andrew, so chances are he’s no Lance Armstrong.

We’ve got random drug tests here too, you know.

So does Sir Henry you clown! So why don’t you keep you’re sour snide thoughts to yourself.

November 14, 2012 at 18:10 #419861Now some readers are throwing Mill Reef and Sir Ivor into the mix and "middle distance " is used to exclude Frankel. They are even using the Derby to exlude him. And name calling the great Sea the Stars.Others using an extra hundred yards to prove he WAS a middle distance horse.Sad.Why not admit he was the greatest non Derby, non Arc winner in the world, over a mile and two and leave it at that?

Oh, I gladly admit that he was "the greatest non Derby, non Arc winner in the world, over a mile and two", but leave it at that? No chance. I don’t see why I would go on calling the horse I (and seemingly Fabre, Balding, Sir Henry, Sir Michael and a few others too) believe is the greatest horse ever the "greatest non Derby, non Arc winner in the world, over a mile and two" when I could just plainly call him the greatest horse ever.

Just to back you up a bit andyod, too many great races horses of the past out there to give Frakel the title greatest ever.
And to bring in a bad comparism, I cant` give messi the best footballer ever title until he wins th world cup. May not be fair and frankel was never given the chance but still no derby no arc the two bigeest in my book. Mind you on anything that could be called reasonable groud i would have expected frankel to have won the arc easily(but he didn`t), not the derby though as he couldn`t settle at 3.
November 17, 2012 at 12:40 #420132How about "The Greatest Race Horse Ever"*.This asterick indicates that there are qualifications and circumstances surrounding his acclamation. In this cased it indicates he never competed in the big ones.Would this be fair to say?
November 17, 2012 at 20:54 #420183I would consider Mill Reef with Sea the Stars the best British middle-distance colt.
Surely I can’t be the first person to point out Sea The Stars was Irish?
