    Minor pattern company, Ginger?
He won Saturday’s race off a rating already bordering on gp3, and is bound to go up to at least gp2.
Now you know you can’t think for yourself, so please go back into your shell, until Timeform tell you what to do.

Come on lads – let’s not turn this thread into a fight among ourselves.

Knowledgeable indeed. Mr Cattermole is a very good all-rounder, as well as being easy on the eye and ear.

Competence is not to be sneezed at. There was an embarrassing moment on RUK (Epsom, Thursday evening) when guest pundit James Willoughby was toying with Richie Persaud very much as a cat might play with a mouse. He questioned him about Standard Times, and it soon became rather too obvious that poor young Richie didn’t have the foggiest about how such magical figures were arrived at. After half a minute of painful stumble-bluff about "averages over many years" and "all types of going", Mr Willoughby did the kind thing, let him off the hook and explained it all.

    Horrible to watch such suffering…

Horrible to watch somebody being put in that position but the fact that the nerdy know-all with zero charm Willoughby chose to do so doesn’t surprise me one bit.

I agree that Willoughby can be a bit of a pixie. Maybe that´s one of the things I enjoy about him, though it can make for uncomfortable viewing when he gets certain bland colleagues not waving but drowning.

In this case, though, I think he was a bit surprised that Mr Persaud didn´t understand Standard Times, and he got him out of the hole decently quickly. This was not Willoughby in know-it-all mode.

    Ah, James Willoughby.

I don’t seem to catch him so much on TV (Racing UK) these days. So last week was a rare exception.

Thursday evening at Epsom, I saw a couple of his interludes with Rishi, and their signing-off piece when discussing Rishi’s likely Olympic Sports assignments from the BBC was hilarious.
The end of the day summary from Goodwood on Saturday with Nick, I found to be a tremendous, thought-provoking piece of horse race analysis.
    Either way, top stuff!!

Dunno the reason, just like James a lot, both as how he comes over as a person and as a TV presenter/analyst of horse racing.

On the other hand, I cannot understand the platitudes forum members have for Mike Cattermole & Emma Spencer – whatever their mutual attraction. They are dullards, and their lack of interest in horse racing comes over (to me) on each and every TV appearance. I do try to avoid of course, but my heart does sink on those Luck-less Morning Lines when they inevitably dominate alongside that horrible woman.
