I know there have been other threads about him before, but I have to say the last 2 days at Cheltenham he as been truly awful and I have no idea why he is still commentating at the top courses. He gets tongue twisted, does not give 2/3 of the runners is behind half the time and misses so much
He didn’t even know how long it was to the off today.
Awful and embarrassingMarch 11, 2015 at 19:07 #825828As with much of the media, you don’t need to be any good. All that matters is that you get your foot in the door.
March 11, 2015 at 21:34 #826327He is the worst commentator I have ever heard.I have not heard a decent commentry from him ever and I will not forget that he wrongly called my horse as second at Kempton sending me towards the winners enclosure and I missed the jockeys debrief in the losers area.
March 11, 2015 at 23:52 #826584That’s not very nice! He is such an affable chap!
And how can anyone not know their own horse and colours in a race and be misled by the commentator?
Just saying. :)

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 12, 2015 at 09:50 #827643He called the wrong horse yesterday, he got Zarib and Bouvreil wrong, similar colours but still poor
March 12, 2015 at 20:56 #829435He may be a nice bloke and he is a decent presenter but as a commentator he is useless now, far too many mistakes whenever he is calling a high profile meeting and whoever is in charge of the roster now needs to make sure he is put out to grass.

So don't run, just like the others always do
May 6, 2015 at 13:15 #943341Here we go again, Cattermole calling at Chester and messing up the finish of the first race
May 6, 2015 at 13:18 #943356Mister Magoo back to his best

That’s a bit harsh, the winner did assert in the last 50 yards or so having looked likely to be beaten before that. I wouldn’t say he messed it up.
On a side note, I saw Cat at Warwick last month and was eager for a chat but he had his phone glued to his ear so I didn’t get a look in.

I didn’t hear anything wrong.

The second horse was 1/100 in running, and it’s not often they come back once headed that late in a race.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

That usually happens when the commentator makes a pigs ear of it in a race like that.
It sounded to me as if Cattermole was doing a post mortem on the race while it was still taking place.
Think it’s always better if commentators commentate on what is actually happening rather than what they think is going to happen.
May 6, 2015 at 18:36 #943866I met Catt a few years ago and he’s a very nice and amiable man but not sure he’s up for commenting on the big races nowadays.
May 6, 2015 at 18:40 #943953He’s very poor.
Mind you, Dessie Scahill is even worse in Ireland.
May 8, 2015 at 17:03 #951248Another poor call in the 345 today, say what you see not what you think is happening or will happen
May 9, 2015 at 05:40 #955230Finished the meeting the way he started it
