    Commonwealth Cup

Highland Chief 40/1 3 places Skybet

If anyone is interested in a speculative punt on him I’d say you probably
should get you skates on as Skybet are still offering 3 places when most
others go 2. It’s likely that some of O’Briens will come out and this could
easily go 7 or less on the day. He is available at 50/1 2 places for those
with a stroger nerve than me. It looks likely that Mogul will run and they
came up against each other 3 times last year. HC was beaten by Mogul in the
Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last July. He wen’t down by 3/4L in a good fight
after the pair having a bump. Next time he finished 2nd but ahead of Mogul
in the Great Voltigeur at York in August. Their last meeting was in the
Group 1 Grand Prix De Paris at Longchamp in September won by Mogul, when
Olivier Peslier must have thought he was sitting on Frankel. He kept him
plumb last a long way back turning for home, and then (if you watch the video)
he made more ground than any horse running into 5th. The reason I’m pairing the
2 off is the difference in price. Mogul is 6/1 and HC 40s or 50s. I don’t think
there’s that much between them. He’s been off for 238 days, but he won 1st time
out at 2 and then again last year in June at Ascot. Al Aasy looks different class,
but I’m not that frightened of any of the others and I think he’ll run so the 3
places could be worthwhile in what is likely to be a slimmed down event :good:

    Nice homework Graham
He certainly looks the value in the race for a place(or win). :good:

Out today but have a few to get on although most running later

Gunmetal? Is one what do you think Graham is he worth another try?

I’ve not been backing my tracker horses and yesterday 3 out of 5 won  So today I”ll back them and see what happens. Back later have to rush… Jac :bye:

Here’s my thoughts on Gunmetal Jac for what they’re worth.

On the minus side he ran a bit of a stinker last time out, he didn’t
seem to have any kick at all and trailed in last. Obviously the Stewards
had a word but the trainer’s rep could offer no explanation for the poor
performance. He’s being riden by Jason Hart, who has never sat on him, as
Connor Beasley who has been on him the last 3 is on the favourite Commanche
    Falls for Michael Dods.

On the plus side, he likes Ripon. He won the Great St Wilfrid (2018) beating no
less than Dakota Gold and on his other 3 starts there he was 2nd (2019) then 3rd
(2020), before another run in the Great St Wilfrid (2020), where he was drawn mid
stalls (9), but chose to go the far side, which was the wrong side, and finished
9th. He’s 8 now, but carrying 16lbs less than he was when winning the GSW back in
2018. I reckon they’ll want another crack at the GSW which is on 14th August. He runs
off 81 today and the lowest mark that got in last year was 83. Another bad run would
drop him down to a mark that would probably not get in so I’d imagine they might want
to get his mark up a little. Whether he still has it in him is the question, if he has
he’s well handicapped. I’ll probably have a few quid on, but if I’m honest it’s more in
    hope than expectation

I’ll learn one day to copy my posts before hitting submit…. another one lost in cyberspace.

Good to know about that Godolphin comp allows you to swap a horse no longer in training. Hopefully one or two of mine will show their faces this weekend.

At one point we wondered if we’d have twins, but fortunately not. I’m not sure we could have handled two at once very well. I just wanted a sibling growing up, and even more so now, but that never happened.

Almost all of my AP comp selections are non-runners for the big races this weekend. I’ll have to get busy finding one or two diamonds in the rough. AOB will probably have more then enough to win the Derby & Oaks, but as you said Jac – a little Snowfall could upset his plans.

Graham – Highland Chief is a very interesting runner and looks decent E/W value.

Good Luck with all your bets today

Graham .. Many thanks for your great rundown on Gunmetal and his chances tonight, it really sounds as though he might have a squeak so I’ll go in each way on him and see what happens. Hopefully we’ll see him picking up in the last furlong and speeding past the other horses to win. That’s extremely optimistic of me I know. ;-)

Having been out all day two of my tracker horses have already run..
    Lethal Angel 2nd
    Beyond Dawn 3rd

    So I am left with..

    7.30 Ripon .. Gunmetal .. EW
    8.20 Kempton . Almareekh .. WIN

and a small Win double just in case.

best of luck to us Graham and thanks again for your summing up of Gunmetal tonight. :good:

    Andre ..
Nothing worse than your posts scooting off into cyber space, for one you can never remember exactly what you wrote and secondly you have just lost the will to post but somehow you manage to get it together and glad you did. :good:
My AP horses have been the same Andre, I’ve been lucky to see 1 of them run so actually started backing them nearer to the day…even then they get taken out. Let’s hope for some luck in Nathan’s competition and a few runners at Epsom for our Godolphin horses..

I was an only child until I was 12 years old and then my sister came along, my mum lost a little boy when I was 7 years old, I would have loved a brother to spoil and don’t really see my sister an awful lot since mum passed away so having a sibling doesn’t always work out later in life, just happy to have such a lovely family and know that you are too. :rose:

Darren .. Good luck with those Curragh bets tonight. :good:
Just off to get a few prices on my two runners tonight from Paddy Power.

    Best of luck
    Jac :bye:

Well I think Gunmetal comes off the list today. He had every chance but not enough in the tank.

Just down to Michael Stoute’s Almareekh in the last at Kempton. :good:

Good luck with Bolshoi Darren, 33/1 is some bet :good:

Actually talking about 33/1 shots, I’ve got Zeyaadah at 33/1
(in the ante post thread back in April). I think she has a great shout.

I mentioned Highland Chief 3 places the other day, he’s still available
at 50/1 but only 2 places with 6 runners. I’ll happily settle for 3rd place.

I quite fancy Dusky Prince 7/1 Boylesports in the 1st at Epsom today with the brilliant
Hollie Doyle doing the steering. He looked a bit green, but when the penny
dropped in the last furlong he took off and won going away. The extra 1/2f
will be right up his street.

I’ll probably have a nibble at my choices on Nathan’s Derby competition, but those are
my main hopes. Best of luck today with punting and competitions :good:

Out round my friends watching all the action today so just a quick call in to wish you all good luck in Nathan’s Competition.

Graham what a price you have for Zeyaadah in the AP comp and will be watching Highland Chief with interest too.
I have an outsider to kick off the first but taking a bit chance with Sienna Bonnie but she has run in listed company so hoping for a place.

I think I might regret putting in Albaflora against Al Aasy today, I though he might go off odds on and was going for the place, but not changing it now.

Have napped Snowfall in the Oaks but have had a saver on Zeyaadah also and a rev. forecast. Just changing my mind all over the place but racing is not always as cut and dried as it looks and I think Frankie will give Snowfall a great ride today.

All my picks are on Nathan’s comps so good luck everyone so looking forward to this.

Quick note before I rush off…

Good luck in the comp and with your picks guys
I’m on Snowfall Ante Post at 50’s had given up on her to some degree but she showed on her reappearance the step up in distance and age has improved her. I have Pyledriver in the Tote comp and am a big fan of his a tough race but he has ability. I also see my cliff horse Music Society is running at Catterick today so I’ll throw a few pound in that direction.

Nice job Darren with 33/1 for Bolshoi Ballet, that’s amazing value and you too Graham with 33/1 about Zeyaadah for the Oaks. I made her my nap for Nathan’s Comp. I also picked Snowfall for the Oaks in the Comp. – what a great price you have with her Nathan with 50/1.

It’s an intriguing day of racing for sure. I went with the outsider of 10 in the second – Mythical Madness, hoping for a sneaky place @ 40/1. If I remember correctly he’s been placed twice in this race before (2017 & 2018). I also went against Al Aasy, thinking he’d be odds on, like Jac – not changing my mind now.

Good Luck with all your bets today & in Nathan’s comp!

Nice one with Blue Cup Darren :good:

I had the amazing Snowfalll  What a ride Frankie gave her it was BREATHTAKING the way she stormed home. :yahoo:
Also backed Corazon Espinado 12/1 (Spinning Heart in English) mine certainly was. and Mehmento<a nice double for Hollie Doyle. :good:
    All in my Derby picks.

Today I have Napped John Leeper to win the Derby. Think Frankie is just what he needs and it would be a fairytale win for tbe Dunlop family and the beautiful pairing of Frankel and Snow Fairy..

Good luck everyone and don’t forget..
