Key Victory slooshes home in the pouring rain with the racecourse looking more like a soggy evening at Wolverhampton than a heady evening in Dubai.
Good Fortune ran well enough but didn t seem to enjoy the unexpected rain.

Sorry it didn’t work out this week Graham. I made the mistake of taking early prices at Meydan with Paddy Power and missed out a bit, but not moaning I will just wait for SP’s next thursday I think.

Off to Chelmsford 7.00pm now which will decide whether or not I make a profit today.
    Ever hopeful.. Jac

Always another day Graham but I know how you’ll be feeling.
I played it all wrong at Chelmsford tonight watching Bright Melody romp in I went for the outsider and a rev forecast with the winner… if only he’d just run the one horse I would have made a small profit today…anyway onwards and sideways

Thanks to all for the great input today :good: please come back next week and do it all again (but even better)..Jac :bye:

Actually +£9.50 on my last Thursday bets going into today as I forgot to return my £2 Stake on 3 winning bets (I thought it was a small return!)

    Todays winnings…
    Carried over from week 1 .. +£9.50
    £10 win Ekhtiyaar 9/4 ….. £32.50
    £10 win Platinum Star 7/4 ..£27.50
    Non Runner Dream Castle ….£5.00
    TOTAL STAKE Week 2 … £83.00
    Winnings including £9.50 …..£74.50
    Small loss …………£8.50
It could have been much worse. B-)

    Note to myself
Going into next Thursday on a minus so need to not waste money on forecasts and PP bad value early prices
    -£8.50

Couple of goes at meydan tomorrow

    2:30 riflescope 8/1 £4 win
    Almanaara 4/1 £1 win

Riflescope rattled home behind almanaara last time and will appreciate the step up in trip, happy to keep almanaara on side as a saver

    3:40

    Loxley £8 win 4/1
    Dream castle £2 win 4/1

Dream castle had a brilliant season in meydan last year but has gone off the rails since so am only having a saver on him. Main one is loxley who is becoming a bit frustrating to follow with plenty of seconds but hopefully he can get his head in front

    GL all :good:

    -£8.50

    Thursday 16th January 2020
    Meydan Selections

Just the 6 races at Meydan this Thursday starting off with an old favourite….

    2.30 ….Riviera 2 Handicap (Turf) – 6 furlongs

    ALMANAARA4/1£10 WIN
Back in stall 1 again after his scintillating win 2 weeks ago and again running on the turf. Also back to running over 6 furlongs which should all suit.
Jim Crowley takes the ride this time and I’m certain we are going to see a repeat performance with Almanaara (1) holding off challenges from Dream Today (9) and Moqarrab (12).

Summerghand (7) will have course experience on his side this time but he was unable to get close to Ekhtiyaar last time 2 and a half lengths behind Dream Today and carrying 5lb more weight.

I would like to think that Doug Watson has a good tow into this race comparing Ekhtiyaar’s performance with Almaanara and is confident, as I am, his horse has the beating of this field. :good: :good:

    Almaanara – £10 Win – 4/1

    3.05 …. Al Furjan Handicap (Dirt) – 6 furlongs

Initially I wanted to go all out for Simon Crisford’s Intuitive (10)-EW this a a recent addition to his yard from James Tate off the back of a Class 3 win over 7f at Kempton last October but he seems to find trouble in running in most of his races and here we need something that will be quickly away kicking up the dirt so going for Doug Watson to put in an early double with….
    MY CATCH
This horse, drawn 9, has been highly tried (although only successful once) at Group Level but he loves running on the fast dirt track and I believe he is the class act in this race.

The Godolphin trained Tribal Quest has not run for almost 18 months and would like to see how he fares in this after his long lay off.

    MY CATCH – 4/1 – £5 win
    Intuitive – £2.50 each way – 11/1

    3.40 – Zabeel Turf – Listed Handicap – 1m2f

    DREAM CASTLE (2) – £10 WIN – 4/1
Was withdrawn from taking on Benbatl last Thursday and goes for this slightly easier option against 5 other Godolphin horses.
Always goes well fresh and won 3 on the trot here last year before losing his way. He is the class act here and a return to form very much expected. :good:
    Of the other Godolphin horses:-
Loxley(10) – has never won at Meydan and hasn’t won a race since August 2018.
First Nation(4) – Won a similar event last year from Nordic Lights.
Art Du Val(9) – I do like this horse ridden by Barzelona and he won here last year ridden by William Buick who has chosen to ride Loxley.
Desert Fire (7) – Won here over 1 mile and mile and a half last year.
Dubai Horizon (3) NB – Ran 8th in a Listed Handicap over a mile and half two weeks in race won by Universal Order running on well in the last two furlongs but this has always been his best distance and he is currently priced at 28/1. :good:

So a bit of a puzzler amongst the other ‘boys in blue’ runners but going to go….
    DREAM CASTLE – £10 WIN @ 4/1
    Dubai Horizon £2.50 Each Way @ 28/1

    4.15 …. Cape Verdi (Group 2) Fillies and Mares – Turf – 1 Mile

    MAGIC LILY(3) – £10 Win – 9/2
This lightly tried but talented filly has run well in Group 1 company in 2017 as a 2yo three quarters of a length 3rd to Larens and September at Newmarket in the Fillies Mile. She has only run 4 times in her career but showed signs of improvement when running at St. Cloud last year in a Listed Fillies race over 1m2f but feel that this distance will suit her better.
Beyond Reason (7) has never won over a mile and hasn’t won a race since Aug.18
Dubai Blue(8) has only had 4 races in her career with 2 x wins at Lingfield at Class 4 and Class 3 level.
She will need to improve to win this.
Taking a chance Each Way with Maamora (5) 14/1 who went into my notebook at Newmarket last year with a good 2nd to Lavender’s Blue at the Craven Meeting, she led until the final furlong when Lavender’s Blue asserted and won going away. Her best win was a Cl.2 at Chelmsford last Autumn and think she holds good each way credentials here.

    MAGIC LILY – £10 WIN @ 9/2
    Maamora – £2.50 EW @ 14/1

4.50 .. Taking a breather here and sitting this one out as I fancied Dubai Icon to win and he is a non runner.

    5.25 …. Aliyah Handicap (Turf) 1 mile

    MAJOR PARTNERSHIP (13)
Won’t have the rail to help him this time and has to overcome a wide draw this time to win this. Up to 1 mile he now has 9.0 to carry against his rival Suedois who remains at 9st6lb for his one and half length beating. It’s going to be a close call.

    Suedois (10)
Ultra consistent and rarely out of the first 3, this time he has a real chance to win with the weights in his favour. However I believe Major Partnership won his race easily with Suedois not quite getting home.

Royal Marine hasn’t won a race since Oct.18 but it was a Group 1.
He went off 5/6f last year for the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial Dirt but missed the break and came home a distant 4th to Walking Thunder. I just can’t trust him until he shows more.

    MAJOR PARTNERSHIP – £5 EW @ 5/1
    ************************************************************************

    -£8.50
    £60 Staked
Hoping to get out of the red this week and into profit. :good:

Look forward to hearing from Hein, BigG, FF and anyone who has any views on what might be winning at Meydan tomorrow afternoon. :mail:
Good luck with your bets.. Jac

Hi folks :bye: , I don’t like to sound like a repeating record  , but this card appears absolutely lethal to me. The only bet I would think about would be Summerghand on place, but his last week’s run wasn’t too convincing..
So best of luck to Jac and the rest of the gang :bye: :good:

    Hi Hein :bye:
I agree it’s a difficult card but I’ve enjoyed trying to work it out and with a bit of luck find a few winners. :good:

Summerghand has a bit to find with Dream Today from Ekhtiyaar’s race last week and has 5lb extra to carry. It will be interesting.

I think Suedois in the last would be a great place play, he always runs a great race…best of luck Hein. :rose: Jac

Hi all, I did my studying last night and got my bets on. I was ready to do my full write up,
but Mrs G has just lost a cap  We are heading to the dentist, which is still our old
dentist before we moved so it’s a round trip of 3 hours so I’m not going to see the racing.
I mean, how many teeth does a person need

    Anyway here’s my bets

    2.30 Summerghand 11/1 Betfred

3,05 Beachcomber Bay 12/1 Paddy Power

    3.40 Art Duval 10/1 Bet365

    4.15 Magic Lily 4/1 Betvictor

    4.50 George Villiers 14/1 betvictor

    5.25 Above N Beyond 20/1 Bet365

    Good luck all :good:

Best of luck with your selections Graham some brave choices there and it’s a tricky day. :good:

Hope your wife gets her cap sorted and it doesn’t end up costing an arm and a leg. You’re going to need a few of those to come home knowing what dentists and hygienists charge these days.

Hope you get to see one or two of the races and look forward to catching up with you later…best of luck..Jac :rose:

Being a relative newcomer to the site I’ve still to discover some of the gems hidden away.
Found this thread while watching Meydan.
Just watched Soumillon wreak any chance his mount had before going from first to last in about a furlong!
If you don’t mind I can add an occasional tip for your consideration …having put forward Moment of Silence e/w in Trends,Research & Notebooks section.(Tails from the blackcountry)
