The best April fools day joke I’ve heard today, nice one Sea Pigeon…..

I’m not sure if he was being serious or not, it would’ve had to have been before 12 for it to be an April Fool! Flemenstar won’t get near him.
April 3, 2013 at 13:00 #434865Although he could have done without the drying ground on a sharp track I still think Flemenstar represents the each-way bet.
I remain in the yet to be totally convinced that Sprinter Sacre is quite the megastar we are all led to believe. There is no denying his jumping can be spectacular but I don’t believe his two flagship wins at the Festival were quite as impressive as widely suggested. It clearly isn’t his fault that he has found himself in a pretty weak division but it is debatable what he actually achieved in beating Cue Card over a trip short of his best and an ageing Sizing Europe who is probably two years beyond his best.
This race should represent a much more significant challenge. It is not difficult to take Flemenstar over Cue Card. I think he is several pounds the better horse, more so had the ground been softer. I don’t think it was a brilliant renewal of the Ryanair that Cue Card won and jumping wise he always looks like an accident waiting to happen. These trappy fences could easily see him on the deck.

I’m with you, Rich. I think Flemenstar will be very lucky to even get third and this race will hush his fans up for good.
April 3, 2013 at 15:42 #434878cue card at 6-1 is xmas come early!
of course you have to respect the beast, sprinter sacre. he’s easily the most impressive horse in training at the moment, in either code, and his queen mum win was breathtaking, awesome. the power he showed around that top bend made me gasp.

but. there is that slight doubt that he will get the trip, and even though he looks as if he should, he still has to prove it.
i’ve backed cue card because I think theres plenty of evidence to suggest he’s the second best horse in training, and consistently underestimated. also 2 and half miles around aintree on good ground is completely ideal for him. if he can’t beat sprinter sacre now, he never will.
April 3, 2013 at 18:44 #434903I don’t think Cue Card is Christmas come early but Silviniaco Conti at 4-5 might be. I rarely get involved at such prices but back over 3 miles on good ground on a flat track ? Easily the best horse in the race.
April 3, 2013 at 19:01 #434906agreed, only reason i’ve left him alone is that I don’t like backing shorties.
April 4, 2013 at 18:28 #435085Silviniaco Conti looked rather light today. I doubt that was close to his true running.
April 4, 2013 at 18:48 #435088Interesting to see that on Sporting Life’s summary of the race, Cue Card has been tipped to beat Sprinter Sacre.
April 5, 2013 at 00:36 #435170Deffo a watching race as opposed to betting medium – for me.
I hope we get to see the aeroplane off the bridle.
Flemensfirth to run a big race and ruffle his feathers…maybe he can beat him

April 5, 2013 at 08:30 #435186Magnificent field for this race today. Race of the NH season by some distance.
For Non Stop available at 50’s after winning the Old Roan by 23 lengths tells the story of the quality of todays field.
Congratulations to connections of all involved.
April 5, 2013 at 10:01 #435205. It is not difficult to take Flemenstar over Cue Card. I think he is several pounds the better horse, more so had the ground been softer. With an interrupted preparation, a liking for softer ground and previous concerns expressed about his ability to travel overseas he’ll need to be more than a few pounds better Stilvi and I think the 6/4 available about Cue Card in the W/O market is cracking value and haven taken it accordingly.

April 5, 2013 at 11:30 #435224I’m a huge Sprinter Sacre fan, the most exciting horse in training, the Frankel of the jumps. But I do genuinely believe the 2 mile division is very weak at present and that’s why he looks so good. Sizing Europe apart (who is not as good as he was, and almost tripped over when chasing SS at Cheltenham), I really don’t think there has been that much for him to beat. Cue Card is definitely better over further than 2m.
Today could be the day we see an upset, he’s up against specialist 2 and half mile horses, and has to prove he’s effective at this trip also. Flemenstar is obviously a decent horse, Cue Card has proved himself over this trip, Finians Rainbow (if back to his best) has looked good over CD, as did For Non Stop at the start of the season. He could well win on a bike, so at the prices playing for second place I will go For Non Stop at 40/1. If he’s back to the form of his previous Aintree romp, (won in a good time) he could well be the one to follow SS home. But if the favourite has any flaws over this trip, could be a decent price winner. I know I tipped him up for the Ryanair, but I think Aintree is his course, and the ground is perfect.April 5, 2013 at 13:53 #435243Interesting to see that on Sporting Life’s summary of the race, Cue Card has been tipped to beat Sprinter Sacre.
I have seen several tips against Sprinter Sacre today. Perhaps it’s fashionable to be seen to be swimming against the tide and seeking out that old Devil called "Value"
Of course the new trip is a question but how short would he be if it was a two mile race? I suspect that the selections would be different if the potential loss was not one of face but something much more tangible, for example, ones testicles.Looking at the opposition Cue Card is the biggest threat in my mind but he would have to outstay the favourite by an enormous amount to bridge the gap on the ratings. Flemenstar is overrated in my opinion. He has the chance to prove me wrong today but it is one thing looking fast against slow horses and another doing it against former proven specialists at the minimum trip. Flemenstar folded tamely behind Tidal Bay and flattered to deceive when failing to catch Sir Des Champs after a change of tactics. This is his make or break day in terms of whether he is the real deal.
I think it would be a major blow to see Sprinter Sacre fail today. Although some people revel in the bursting of bubbles, I think Racing needs something special from time to time and I hope to see a true champ solidify, rather than loosen, the crown on his fine head today.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 5, 2013 at 14:12 #435246What a horse!!
April 5, 2013 at 14:25 #435247Fantastic!
The only disappointment (if you can call it that) was Barry did not push him to go further clear after the last. Could have shown us just how good he really is instead of winning on the bridle. Should’ve put more daylight between him and Cue Card. Still may be the best Jumping horse ever seen, but could’ve absolutely proven it today had his jockey seen fit…
But I am nit-picking.
Brilliant!
Value Is EverythingApril 5, 2013 at 14:44 #435254I hope they all take their places, it would make for an interesting race but, like the movie Highlander:-
"There can be only one"
And as Freddie Mercury sang:-
"There can be only one
This race that lasts a thousand years
Will soon be done – done
Magic – it’s a kind of magic"Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 5, 2013 at 15:12 #435259That SS is a scary monster of a horse – where are his limits?
