would surely win the king george in a canter.
April 5, 2013 at 16:54 #435276Didn’t think SS was at his best today which is rather worriying.
April 5, 2013 at 17:50 #435289More excellence from Sprinter Sacre, with Cue Card seemingly running to his best in behind. It was sad to see another step backwards from Finian’s Rainbow, but perhaps that was the result of his rather stalling season. At least Flemenstar was exposed as mediocre at the top level.
April 6, 2013 at 01:59 #435382That SS is a scary monster of a horse – where are his limits?
Only the limits that are set by his trainer.
April 6, 2013 at 22:04 #435610Wholly disappointed with Flemenstar – cost me a big wager on the place market. I have clearly overrated him.
I suppose we will see next season if we will be talking about the aeroplane in the same glowing terms as Kauto Star. Scary.
Still has it to prove at different distances, but King George no problem, unless a bog. Gold Cup on good ground….can anything stop him?
Grand National on ice?
Eurovision?
First horse on the moon?
Next PM?
Jordan’s 18th Husband…
Ok, I’m being silly now.

I think Flemenstar is a very decent horse (may need softer) which I think deserves another go at 3 miles in Ireland. Clearly its cue card that has been underrated. He is a lovely horse who has matured well and is staying on brilliantly in his races. As for the winner, I think the debate will centre around whether he should be aimed for 3 mile races. There will be furious debates!!

April 7, 2013 at 08:49 #435646Who would have believed after Frankel that NH would turn up its own potential ‘greatest horse ever’?
This has to be the greatest period in racing in the forty odd years I’ve been watching it. I am determined to get to see this fellow.
..any chance he’ll appear at my local Huntingdon NH course?
April 7, 2013 at 20:03 #435748To sum up Sprinter Sacre I would have Cue Card as the same ability as Master Minded maybe better not sure unfair to say, and Sprinter Sacre is cantering over a Cue Card rated horse.
Some horse.
April 8, 2013 at 19:51 #435829Its all conjecture of course, but I struggle to think that Masterminded (rated above more illustrious stablemates Denman and Kauto Star lest we forget) was the equal, or was inferior, to the admirable Cue Card.
Perspective needed – as it was when MM slaughtered the opposition.
April 9, 2013 at 20:33 #435888Master Minded slaughtered VPU and an out of sorts Tidal Bay, who then was almost beat by Big Zeb (and would have been if not a bad mistake) and folk couldn’t believe it, I’m fairly sure Cue Card would of given him a race imo.

I think that Master Minded reached a Zenith and then felt the effects of it. He had a pretty hard racing style and would have been better served to be a doddler like Moscow Flyer who really measured his opponents. There is no doubt but VPU would be a reliable yard stick though and on that day, there was no living with MM.

April 23, 2013 at 09:00 #437087Slightly off topic but…
Crazy price from PP about Sizing Europe in the W/O market today.
4/5
Noble Prince best days appear to be way behind him (and even at his best he wouldn’t have had the beating of SE) and there’s no reason to suggest Foildubh can turn around the 10L beating he was given by SE in the Tied Cottage (when in receipt of 8LB).
That just leaves Days Hotel and on official ratings and a line through Foildubh from his last race he too has plenty to find on his more illustrious stablemate.
He may even end up attempting to take them along according to HDB in today’s RP and while he’s the most likely of the rags to have improvement in him, that could just set it up for SS and SE to go on near home.
To put the 4/5 in perspective, Sizing Europe went off at 1/8 in the Tied Cottage.
Ladbrokes are much more the price I would expect @ 2/5.

April 23, 2013 at 09:31 #437089I think you’re right but the only problem that might appear is if they go for home early and Sizing Europe goes toe to toe with Sprinter and gets tired and something ridden for place money with a patient ride comes and pips him late.

April 23, 2013 at 09:35 #437090I see the ATR predictor has Sizing Europe coming 1st.

They must have something in their set up that is predicting Sprinter walking through 3 or 4 fences hitting the rest hard and holding on for second…….

April 23, 2013 at 10:04 #437096It’s a fair concern Nathan and the only one I have but Nolan has already stated that with there being money down to 5th place he’s happy for Noble Prince to finish in that position.
In reality, that just leaves 2 horses and the same thing happened at Cheltenham yet Sizing Europe was still 6 lengths too good for anything else.
As I’ve posted elsewhere – imagine Sprinter hadn’t ran at Cheltenham and wasn’t running today.
What price would Sizing Europe be to beat the other three ?
Basically you have to ask yourself; is the scenario you outline practically 50/50 to happen ?
Now into 8/11
