Just took part in a Calcutta in Port Douglas, and bought the Jap Pop Rock, getting about 8/1 to my money with 8/5 for second, money back third. Have tickled Activation and Maybe Better- Roll on the Cup!

for an unflattering photo of the fav:

    http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st … 02,00.html

while David Hayes plays things down:

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><br>The trainer said Tawqeet "was just jigging around and sprung a shoe" and "he actually pulled a bit of skin away from the hoof wall which is common".

"They pull shoes off every friggin’ day, it is not a huge thing," Hayes said yesterday afternoon. "If it wasn’t the Melbourne Cup favourite, you wouldn’t know about it."

Thought it posted this but perhaps not. Having looked at the (somewhat sketchy) form I’ve decided to take Tawqueet and Pop Rock against the field at combined odds of 13/5.

Efficient did a piece of work over 400m with his 2 stablemates and was lame this morning, sad news for the local barman here who spent $1000 on him in the Calcutta and loses his dough!<br>KF just had a ride in the 2800m handicap on the fav and did nothing wrong, finishing second. The track looks perfect, no jar whatsoever, and yesterday’s inside bias looks to be gone.

Great stuff, the Japanese pair four and a half lengths ahead of the third:

    <br>Finishing order:

    http://www.smh.com.au/news/horseracing/ … 70796.html

the finishing kick traditionally needed in this race much talked about, but looks like (with Damien Oliver’s help) only the Japanese had it really covered…

…and John Egan rode another 2m blinder to get  100/1 "best of the Brits" Land’n Stars into fifth.

Top marks to Clare Balding for tipping up that winner.  However, is Yeat’s running style not to come from off the pace?  I thought Fallon went too early myself.  He got left at the start, then was in second by the mile marker!  I expected him to be swooping inside the final three furlongs.<br>I think Fallon got it wrong.
