    The judge just turned 56.

    I rest my case!!

Lest I be accused of ageism – I am older than the judge myself :D

I see the New Chief Justice is to be Sir John Thomas

That’s the second appropriately named Chief Justice in a row.

(not that I’m casting aspersions at him in particular – more the judiciary in general)

Four members of the Court of Appeal have just been appointed to senior posts in the criminal justice hierarchy. The chances are that one of them will succeed the newly appointed Lord Judge, 67, when he steps down as Lord Chief Justice in — I would guess — five years’ time. But which of them will it be?

Lord Justice Thomas, 60, heads the list as vice-president of the Queen’s Bench Division and Deputy Head of Criminal Justice…..

…Thanking him last year, Lord Phillips, who was then Lord Chief Justice, recalled Lady Thatcher’s famous tribute to Lord Whitelaw — “every Prime Minister needs a Willie” — and suggested that “every Lord Chief Justice needs a John Thomas”.
