The man has no talent and never has had. He’s made a career of buffoonery and, imo, done racing’s image more harm than good.

One thing that hasn’t changed is that he continues behaving in an undignified manner. I suspect Ladbrokes will be questioning the wisdom of continuing using him in ads. As he cloaks himself in more layers of ridicule, doubtless companies who value their brand will be crossing him off the list.

    Well said.

    And those bloody adverts…

Sorry McCririck, I’m pretty sure it’s legal to discriminate against disgusting oafs.

Unfortunately if he leaves C4 he’ll have more time to provide his "expertise" on American racing broadcasts. Hopefully the networks blacklisted him after he made a fool of himself with his weird sexist anti-Zenyatta rant before the 2009 Breeders Cup Classic.

I’ve never been a fan of his but hes every right to give it a go. Im not surprised hes got it on a no win no fee basis in current climate because a lot of london law firms are very quiet at the moment

Whether hes rich o not or has right wing views is neither here nor there

I am embarrassed for the shameless old fool who has disgraced himself ever since it was announced he was being binned…….no dignity.

Even as someone who found him good at what he did at his best it is clear that he is now past it and more importantly a combination of the factors of a rolling contract and a change of provider for the programme will surely see that this petulant, vain and silly action is unsuccessful.

Silly old chancer with nothing better to do.

Well, I’d be interested in exactly what legal case he is trying to bring. Comments on this thread that McCririck is ‘crap’, ‘talentless’, ‘a buffoon’ and ‘a disgusting oaf’ are just opinion that is worthless in a court of law (and quite rightly so).

As Ken has implied, there would have to be some breach of contract regarding his dismissal, purportedly on age discrimination grounds in this case. The law firm who’ve taken it on no-win-no-fee may well be looking for the publicity of a high-profile case but that only works if they

    win

; it would certainly reflect very badly on them if the case was completely spurious. They

    must

    feel there’s something in it.

McCririck may be angling for an out-of-court settlement as has been suggested but I think he’s more of a bombastic ‘told-you-so’ character who would just like to be proven right in the public arena.

I wish I had a pound for everytime McCririck turned round on camera and uttered his fav put-me-down……..’Will you shut up…..You stupid fool’.Off camera he was even ruder, for some strange reason and I’ve noticed it many a time in ‘his’ sort is that they think they are above you, they really talk down to you with such a condescending attitude and worse still is the fact they dont recognise violence.Had John been punched on the nose as a response to his aggressive verbal bullying he’d have cried like a Baby simply because he cant comprehend the fact that some of us dont take to Bullies, particularly the sort that shouts at Women like him! I remember one ocassion back on Dewhurst day around 1997 when my Girlfriend wanted to see him talking on Camera,he was re-hearsing his little Spiel over and over and mumbling into his hands like he still does, she followed him around and he got irritated with her to a point that he walked backwards into her on purpose then turned and said ‘Stupid Woman’,of course being stood by her I sensed the T*at had done it on purpose so I gave him a friendly sneaky slide down his shin and he let out what could only be described as a muffled death cry,I heard a Buffalo make the same noise just before it died. Before he could say anything I politely said ‘Watch where you’re going you stupid Fat ****** ****’ and off he strode shaking his head!

That is just an opinion that is worthless in a court of law (and quite rightly so)

McCririck has no shame, Curley had it spot on in their famous confrontation when he stated he was just a take out merchant.

Of course Eddie, but I’m not proffering it as a defence of McCririck’s sacking as some of the name-callers were!

Is it worthless "opinion" Mike? Surely all of those things stop him from being good at his job. If he’s no good at his job then that’s it in a nutshell.

To his defence, both he and "The Booby" have done a lot of good unpaid work for Greatwood Racehorse Rehabilitation. So he’s not all bad.

The times I’ve seen him at the races always has time for the public, often seen him (in his own free time) posing for a picture. No doubt while working he’s a different animal, as he sees it – trying to get in his way / on camera.

McCririck may be angling for an out-of-court settlement

Even if McCririck gets "just" an out-of-court settlement, it will have been well worth it for him.

He has made no secret over the years that, whatever he has done, whether it was Celebrity Big Brother or Celebrity Coach Trip, it has always been purely for the money.

An out-of-court settlement would provide a very nice pension pot for him but you certainly couldn’t rule out that he might actually win.

You would have thought that IMG and Channel 4 could employ who they wanted, if the presenters are all on freelance contracts.

Once a contract has expired, I wouldn’t have thought a new employer, as IMG would have been, would be under any obligation whatsoever to take on previous staff who were on freelance contracts to Highflyer.

I wouldn’t have thought IMG or Channel 4 would have to give any explanation or justification whatsoever for failing to offer contracts to people it did not want to employ.

If you’re a freelance, that’s the risk you take in return for the other financial benefits of being a freelance or being self-employed. Courtesy and thoughtfulness by the employer would be appreciated, of course.

Big Mac may well have shot himself in the foot because At The Races and his bookmaker employers may well now pull the rug from under his feet as soon as they can get away with doing it.

Nobody wants a perceived troublemaker as an employee. He will bring reflected bad publicity on them, just as in other fields, people in the public eye who get into difficulties often find that one dropped or terminated contract leads to a domino effect with others.

But they’re still only opinions of pundits on a Racing Forum. They’re not facts. You may well be able to find thousands of others saying he was brilliant at his job.

Unless C4 had warned him prior to dismissal about some failings which he subsequently failed to correct such

    opinions

    have to be legally irrelevant.

    These are all good points.

The key is surely the nature of the one year rolling contract McCririck had. Also whether there was any implication that that had been terminated implicitly due to age.

Having just listened to McCririck venting his anger at Ageism on the Jeremy vine show on Radio 2,it only confirms that dear John is suffering from what can only be described as ‘Getting Old’,the sooner he accepts that everybody on Planet earth are creatures with those exact tendencies the sooner he’ll realise that he’s P*ssing in the wind with his ridiculous claim for £3m compensation. Some say John is actually from Uranus……..You can guess the next line!

I’ve been given two sound pieces of advice in my lifetime which I always follow.

The first was "never sh*t on your own doorstep" and the second "always walk away when you’re winning"

It seems Mr McCririck has not been given the same advice.

A Twitter campaign to get Thommo back on Channel 4.

Are people mad ? He and McCririck were poor, cliche riddled broadcasters. McCririck would say anything to be contrary ( much like many modern football commentators and pundits ) whilst Thommo’s sayings and mistimed pauses during broadcasts would do my nut in. Racing has to be fresh, modern and relevant whilst maintaining it’s rich traditions and heritage. McGrath and Down were capable of that.

I’m very happy the baffoon and DT have been passed over for this new era.

Tommo is keeping a very close eye on the McCririck legal action.

He is reported as saying: "I’m in the same boat as John and it will be interesting to see where he goes with this. I will certainly be giving John a ring to chat about it."

Tommo, 62, was speaking from Dubai and already has plenty of other work lined up, including his lucrative new Middle East hosting duties!

Mike Cattermole, 51, says: "If you were to look at it dispassionately, it’s interesting that, of the seven presenters who are aged 50 or over, only one, Jim McGrath, was offered a contract."

Francome walked away but I’m not totally convinced he would have been kept on, to be honest.

Cattermole adds of McCririck: "If John can make a few quid for charity, then good luck to him."

It’s being a bit too magnanimous to assume that McCririck is motivated by any thought of benefiting charity.
