Jesus Christ. Whats all that about?
The presentation seems to be reduced to this tosser grandstanding and showing off. I had to mute
Cant they just get rid of this ****?
All I could think of is the old gangland killing where they poured polyfilla down the the throat
August 19, 2020 at 16:34 #1497849Blimey I was expecting Mike Tyson to step up onto the Podium.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 19, 2020 at 16:38 #1497850I guess its part of the gimmick “attracting new people to the sport” but in doing so maybe turning off those that are already there.
I’m painting the stairway walls today and could hear him but couldn’t quite understand what he was saying, it made me smile nonetheless.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
August 19, 2020 at 17:23 #1497862I understood racing was full of characters and can’t see a problem with him.
McCririck was knowledgeable and could be controversial at times, but was a colourful character, the sort of eccentric types racing needs.
Not trashing another thread but there far bigger problems with the ITV racing programme.
The biggest issue is boring presenters or commentators.
Richard Hoiles – Boring, boring, boring. Knowledgeable but just does not shut up, doesn’t take a breath. No charisma, nothing.
Francesca Cumani – Boring posh totty.
Fitgerald – Blarney, blarney, blarney.
The music – what the hell is it. Still after three or so years grates people.Matt Chapman. Yes OTT, but a perfect fit in a programme that needs a total overhaul. They could do so so so much better.
August 19, 2020 at 17:28 #1497863Pathetic , embarrasing & several other words it’s not polite to type on here.
Had to turn him off but hey, if it brings new people in who will care.
We’ve been here before with him before – was at York a year or two ago and he did the same. To see it “live” was even worse, especially as you could see people around cringing, scowling or non-plussed.
Only pratt worse than him is the one encouraging him to do it.
Grow some balls York and get rid !!!August 19, 2020 at 18:25 #1497876What a shame that the main talking point about York is a tv presenter rather than the event itself. Pyledriver, Acclaim the Nation, I’m sure the trainers and jockeys would rather be the centre of attention.
Notoriety is the name of the game.
There is a style of bling and trash which is a demographic that the ITV want to follow and bring in, the trenders the influencers the soundbite.
The reality is that if racing fans are discussing him and stating their immense disdain for the show’s presenter, clearly they are not the target audience and boxes therefore are being ticked.
Any replacement presenter would have to be twice as annoying and much much worse, if you could imagine that.August 19, 2020 at 18:50 #1497887

Just remembered that RH may have posted on here a few years ago… only joking, mate
August 19, 2020 at 21:11 #1497925Tank,
Big Mac, Francome and Jim McGrath worked well to me with a decent commentator, I can’t remember his name. Plenty of knowledge and discussion, some a bit feisty at times as well.
Now, ITV have so many people on there with some trying to out do each other.August 19, 2020 at 21:30 #1497930I like Matt Chapman on ATR/SSR but it sounds like he is one to avoid on ITV (I rarely watch it).
Richard Hoiles is quite analytical. I think that approach works better on RTV but is not such a good fit on ITV.

GSP, Mike Cattermole did a lot of the commentary back in the 90s and beyond. There was another who I can’t bring to mind right now.
Edit- It was Simon Holt
August 19, 2020 at 21:55 #1497933Tank, that’s right MC and SH. No problems with them.
Holies doesn’t come up for air. I just wished he would at least pause for breath every now and again. It’s relentless!August 20, 2020 at 01:29 #1497987Hoiles isn’t as incessant as Lydia Hislop on RTV. She barely pauses for breath at all.
August 20, 2020 at 10:07 #1498014The job of a race commentator is to:
A Accurately detail what is happening during a race, getting the names of all runners, riders and trainers correct(something Peter O’Sullevan didn’t always manage).
B Convey the excitement and passion of what we are watching(there are a few commentators who sound like they are reading the phone book).
For me Hoiles does both. Personally I would have brought Holt to ITV but I understand why they wanted to put their own stamp on proceedings.
As for the reason for this thread I agree with some of the above comments. Yesterday’s presentation made me cringe as well. I really enjoy Chapman covering an evening meeting on SSR, he just tries too hard on ITV.
And lay off Lydia Hislop. I’ve said before that I could listen to her, Steve Mellish and Jonathan Neesom on RUK all day long.
August 20, 2020 at 11:25 #1498028Chapman is a wind up merchant but is a very nice guy off camera. Replied to a tweet I sent him and was lovely. When he was on the Sunday forum with Big Mac,Aussie Jim McGrath, Chris cook etc it was my fav programme. He’s very knowledgeable and you can see when he’s interviewing guys like Charlie Appleby he gets good answers when the trainer is willing to do so. The itv coverage is sooo bland and I long for the days of John francome and Jim mcgrath.
August 20, 2020 at 12:28 #1498047Sorry if this is getting a bit mixed with the ITV racing thread running alongside.
That’s the thing. I think ITV have gone for a much ‘too polished’ programme. BBC started going wrong with Clare Balding. Too perfect if that is a problem it was all about the presenting skills.
With Chapman, he is a bit rough around the edges but that’s what the programme needs, just like Big Mac.
Francome, always sounded like he had a cold but he had that country accent and was good and interesting to listen to.What I am saying is the programme tries to put emphasis on perfection, and they don’t need to. It gets in the way of the racing.
So many presenters on ITV racing, it overwhelms the racing itself.August 20, 2020 at 12:37 #1498048Couldn’t agree more. The Beeb used to get by with anchor (Wilson), paddock (Lindley) and commentator (O’Sullevan). Why we now need a cast of Cecil B. DeMille proportions is beyond me.
