RVW was at least ten pounds below his best in the QE11 because he followed a suicidal pace too closely and it was only his class that saw him hold on. Zacinto should be closer in price to the other’s than he is to Paco Boy.

What suicidal pace was that?. The pace was stop/go until they turned into the straight and, Derby apart, RVW ran his slowest topspeed figure of the season.
I’ve little doubt Zacinto has the beating of Paco Boy over this stiffish mile, the only concerns being the possible lack of proper pace, and this race being low on his priority list.

It wasn’t stop/go, Aqlaam set too strong a pace and RVW paid for it. There is no doubt that Zacinto is the worst value in this race and for every Harbinger there a loads of hyped up Stoute horses who do bugger all as older animals.

Your opinion – neither the course commentator nor the RP analyst support it. Neither do the racetimes; the race was run just 0.7 secs faster than the 2yo Royal Lodge and I sec faster than the fillies handicap over the same c/d.

I’m not saying the race was run in a fast time, quite the contrary. Aqlaam went too fast early doors closely followed by RVW which resulted in the overall time being poor (the last three furlongs of that handicap was run by the winner in a faster time than RVW managed) because the winner was knackered. Ergo Zacinto being held-up was massively flattered.

Anyway, I remember Pipedreamer going on very early in the Cambridegshire and with no front runner in the race I reckon he’ll make most and hold on for a place.

I’d love to win this race for the 3rd year running but going against Paco Boy may not seem so smart from me this year.

I’m playing PIPEDREAMER and LORD SHANAKILL. I think The Cheka will be running on very strong though.

Pipedreamer has always struck me as a horse who would do much damaged when stepped back down to the mile. Similarly, Lord Shanakill has a lot more to offer than he’s already shown and has always impressed me a lot more over a straight track.

Theyre both massive prices considering what they have to beat

Hi I’m new here. I like your comment about Pipedreamer. He finished only 2l behind Twice Over and 0.5l behind Sariska last season and that was over 1m 2f, a distance which his team have clearly realised is not ideal. Having watched that race, I think he could well do better over a mile, which would defintely put him in contention in this company. He could be the best value in the race – it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

I think its very smart going against him halfway,i see Zacinto being a bigger threat to my

    Lord Shanakil

! I also think if you took the 16/1 about the Lord, you are still getting 6/4 to finish in the 3,rather than 4/5 Paco to win! The Lord was a powerful looking 3yo,if he has grown any,he could surprise the hotpot/dodgepot fav!

Think Pipedreamer is a decent each way value bet. Ran a cracker last year in the Champion stakes, tiring over the last furlong. A mile should suit more, and 20s is a great bet, considering the lack of depth in the field.

Have to agree that Lord Shanakill looks the value. I haven’t had a bet in the race but 12/1 on this fella is surely too big, seen as he was one of the leading 3yo milers last year.

    LOL another Ante-Post flop.

    ^^How is that a flop?

If I’m reading it right, TAPK backed Lord Shanakill ew at 16/1. The horse finished third at 9/1.

Mr.Wilson, are you for real!! It looks as if TAPK has just had a 6/4 winner, don’t you think?!

Well in the morning I did Zacinto and Lord Shanakill – both looked awful in the paddock. Zacinto was being very coltish and was getting hot so he had a bit of water thrown on him. The slow pace didn’t help though to be fair.

Lord Shanakill just looked terrible. Just looked like the ugliest bird at a party.

So thought over the race over and over and the only thing I could see beating Paco Boy was…Ouqba. 3 win bets and 3 losers. Sums up the week.

I’m convinced there’s a lot of money waiting to be made out of Paco Boy when he has a properly run mile. He’ll trade ridiculously short in-running and then bottom out.

Depends how much you’ve had on, the fact he put up an each way thinking Paco Boy could be beat means 50% of what ever you staked was wasted on blind hope so are you really in that much advantage over me backing £525 @ evens, £125 @ 4-5 and another £45 @ 8-11 before the off today.

    You tell me.

    *EDIT*

Just to let you know, im using my profit to lay St Nicholas Abbey – all of it.

    cheers

So that’s £695 staked, with a profit of £658 (I think, well done by the way!), whereas TAPK would have had a profit of £764. Do the math!
