37 entries to the Lockinge have been released. RVW probably the favourite, but some other G1 winners in Paco Boy, Lord Shanakill & Zafisio, as well as Group performers in Delegator, Famous Name, Gan Amhras, Rayeni, Zacinto, etc etc. Appears as though Suroor is pulling an AOB with 7 entries (1 under the token new trainer Al Zarooni), while AOB himself only has Windsor Palace in addition to RVW. I guess he only pulls the multi-entries in 3yo races, usually.
I feel that the Newbury mile tends to run like a bit less than 8f, so Delegator, Finjaan, Lord Shanakill, Rayeni, Paco Boy (who have shown that their ideal distance may be a little less than the mile) may do well here, while RVW may struggle.
April 1, 2010 at 19:48 #287035Rip Van Winkle should be unbeatable in this race. I assume the fact he worked at The Curragh indicates to me that he is going to the work early

For some reason I don’t think he’ll go for this…..I fancy O’Brien to start him off elsewhere just not sure where!
April 1, 2010 at 20:13 #287045Your prob right Halfway. The Lockinge has turned into s stinking race the past few years i do hope we get to see a great performance. If he doesn’t go their i think the next possible race is St James Palace but i am sure they wouldn’t want to clot that up if Steinbeck wins the Irish Guineas he could go their. Hmmmm France vs Goldikova?….ARE THEY MAD

EDIT St James Palace is for 3yr olds DOOOHHHHHH
Queen Anne it is or is that the aim for Starspangledbanner

Starspangledbanner being aimed at the Queen Anne from what I’ve heard, Wallace.
I’m actually struggling to find a race in my head for RVW to start in. I’d expect they’ll go back to Sandown for the Eclipse this season eventually though.
Maybe the Bet365 Mile on Gold Cup day at Sandown? Depends if AOB brings a runner over for the Classic Trial.
April 1, 2010 at 21:17 #287061Tatts Gold Cup at the Curragh?
April 1, 2010 at 21:20 #287062He’ll have something in mind for the Ganay as well presumably.
April 1, 2010 at 21:41 #287065Goldikova – that form is not looking good from the Breeders’ Cup…

Wouldnt read too much into any of that form just yet!
Wait until June.
Courageous Cat has won well in America since his 2nd though. Easy victory at Gulfstream

I’d say as the jockey (GG) did- a hard thought win – but against what?!
Good time though!

Justenuffhumor – surely the ten F of the World Cup was his trip?

Take The Points (form) of beating Courageous Cat…
The Usual QT form of beating Take The Points…it’s all too interlinked to doubt (the US form)
And all stuffed in Dubai…it was a funny race though…but they all had the run of it!
Goldi needed drugs to beat that lot???

Sure they will win more races – I just won’t back Goldi!

Garrett Gomez, jockey on Courageous Cat
"His Breeders’ Cup run was a great effort and he won well enough last month, when he had to battle hard. He is tough and will run a good race, but it does look a tough contest."April 1, 2010 at 22:45 #287080

If Fame And Glory turns out to be a 10f horse, I really will take up knitting.
April 2, 2010 at 00:03 #287088Age Of Aquarius entered aswell. Presume one of them will run, but neither appears as though 10f sees them at their best. However, you’d be surprised what a couple of pace-makers and heavy ground can do!

While FAG may not be a top-class 10f horse, I think AOB will start him over 10f (or at least 10.5) for the season (1) because the early season in Europe has the Ganay & Tatts Gold Cup, while you have to wait until June for a 12f Group 1, (2) a win over 10f will make him more attractive as a sire prospect, and (3) he will hope that FAG has enough class to win over 10.5f, even though it is less than his true distance.
I think a horse like Vision d’Etat is good enough to beat FAG over 10f, but at least in Ireland, no decent horse may show up to challenge FAG, and he will be able to pick up the Tatt Gold Cup against second-rate horses like Twice Over. Get your needles ready, reet hard.

HTH, even though the Lockinge has been a bit (okay, a lot) sub-par recently, you will notice that AOB tries to have runners in G1s whenever he can. With 3 older horses in training (Age of Aq over 12+f, FAG for 10-12 and RVW for 8-10), he can target more 4+yo G1s than he has in some previous years. With RVW, there are only 2 options before the Royal Ascot, the Lockinge and the Ispahan. Ballydoyle tend to favour English races more than French ones, so unless RVW has a recurrence of his foot problems, I am sure he will run in the Lockinge.
