The simple question anyone needs to ask themselves is this: “Since Frankel, how many horses have there been who could have beaten the mighty Chindit (err, OR 112) by an easy five lengths?”

Baaeed is a really nice colt, who is still improving but this search for the next superstar stuff is like a drug in racing – it has people losing their minds.

Read the report in “Thoroughbred Daily News” and you think we had seen the reincarnation of Eclipse yesterday. All he did was prove his wellbeing and he is capable of running to his rating.

It actually annoys me a bit because I can never enjoy a good horse for what it is – a good horse.

I end up reacting against the “superstar” hype.

ID, you are far and away my favourite, and best, poster on this forum but your hypocrisy here is somewhat galling. I refer you, my honourable friend, to a certain NH horse that has run only the three or four times.

I’m sorry you think I am being hypocritical, but for me there is a difference between an OR 125 colt beating an OR 112 colt by an easy five lengths, thus merely running to an existing rating that is a stone below Frankel, and a novice hurdler winning by 22 lengths from a subsequent Grade 1 winner in a time over five seconds faster than the Champion Hurdle winner on the same card and acquiring a Timeform rating that already puts him within hailing distance of the all-time great Champion Hurdlers like Night Nurse.

    Game of opinions, though, sir!

A good horse with the potential to be a very good horse or maybe even a great, I can’t see how you can justify moving him off his 125 rating based on what he beat in the Lockinge although he did it with the minimal of fuss.

Even tentatively mentioning him in the same breath as Frankel is laughable until he has managed to run to mid 130s let alone 130. I could really see him struggling to get a 130 rating based on what is around in the mile division. It would likely need Coroebus and/or Native Trial (who are around 121 mark) to post bigger ratings in their next races and then for Baaeed to spank either one in the Sussex Stakes by 5-6L.

The potential is there for sure but circumstances may dictate that he falls short of the magical 130 level and I don’t see him as the type of horse that will do a ‘Frankel’ in the Queen Anne to get a big rating. I also think he would likely need ground on the faster side of good (dare I say in the current climate good to firm…gasp) to help him as he seemed a little more laboured on slower ground in the QE2 and Moulin last season.

With all that out of the way, I will look forward to seeing him wherever he turns up as watching a good horse strut his stuff is always a pleasure.
