I’m very excited about Baeed this season, and I think that he could be very very good, but for a small fry punter like myself, I certainly won’t be betting him.

I always go to today’s meeting for The Greenham, but as I’m unable to attend this year, I thought that I’d go on Lockinge Day instead.

I’d love to have one of Sunray Major or Etonian turn up for this, so I’ve bet both of them ante-post for a possible bit of added interest on the day. I’ve taken 25-1 ew Sunray Major, and 100-1 ew Etonian.

They are both unlikely winners, but I’ll hopefully get to see Baeed in the flesh to make up for it.

    It’s a great race.

I furst remember seeing Don win it on the telly as a kid in an eventful race where Jellaby unseated Brian Taylor about a furlong out when leading.

I remember Young Generation winning it to frank the 2,000 Guineas form back in the days when 3yos could run in it too.

Don’t think it was Group 1 then.

I live half an hour from the course nowadays, I was there to see Frankel win it, also Farhh the following year.

I was also at Ascot when Baeed won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and, while he wouldn’t be my idea of an all-time great, he’s a very good colt, worth every ounce of his OR of 125, and the type to be even better this year.

There’s nothing in the race within 6lb of Baeed and it will be a major shock if he’s turned over.

Well my two outsiders are still in there, not that they’ve gathered much interest in the market.

I’d love one of them to place, and at the same time see a huge performance from Baeed

    According to Wikipedia:

“It was raised to Group 1 and closed to three-year-olds in 1995.”

Which fits with my memory of the race. I remember Selkirk putting up a sensational performance when winning in 1992. It seemed unfair that it was not a Group 1 then!

Quite a few races we take for granted as Group 1s now were not in the 1990s. Prince of Wales, Queen Anne, Kings Stand etc.

Baaeed is a good, even very good, horse, and might be even better this year than last.

But an OR of 125 confirms he’s a stone plus short of Frankel and that makes him vulnerable first time out.

The 1/2 is not for me.

The race has the right shape for a thieving each-way bet, though.

Alcohol Free each-way at 14/1 is utterly gigantic – I will be surprised if there’s much 3.8 on the place market at Betfair Exchange.

The race is an each-way thieves’ paradise.

I like Alcohol Free, but Real World and Mother Earth will have their each-way supporters too.

If you shop around you can currently back Real World, Mother Earth and Alcohol Free at 8/1, 8/1 and 12/1 respectively.

That’s 2.6, 2.6 and 3.4 for the place part of an each-eat bet.

At Betfair Exchange, punters are currently ASKING for 2.08, 2.4 and 2.96 respectively about these outcomes.

This illustrates the place value on offer with the bookmakers in a race with an odds-on favourite and just nine runners.

With the stable in form, ground to suit and race fitness on her side I think 8-1 is a great price for Mother Earth, and I’ve backed her win only.

Some good place value to be had here with Baaeed being a short priced favourite which in my opinion reflects the bookmakers views on the strength of the opposition. Will Baaeed win today is perhaps a different question entirely as I imagine there are bigger fish to fry further down the line with the intriguing question of when & where he will be tried over a longer trip.
I shall be nothing more than a interested spectator.
    good luck to all

A fascinating contest in which the top three look well clear.
    Alcohol free
    Mother Earth and Baaeed
Have collaborative form from their meeting in October and a combination tricast is my take.
I do think Baaeed can win here, but in a tactical affair any of the three could take this.
On the each way thieves front, the place angle for mother Earth and Alcohol free (if you get in soon, as they will be pruned dramatically at the post) is compelling.

Baaeed by at least 3 lengths. It really will be that easy. Mother Earth to follow him home.

“I imagine there are bigger fish to fry further down the line…”

Don’t know if you were watching ITV just now but Haggas just strongly implied that Baaeed won’t fail for a lack of fitness.
