TAPK’s gone in hard again…I was hoping for a bit of re-assurance from a good Scottish source of mine on facebook but he’s not got back to me…..BOB!! We’re going to pillage the Irish today with both More of that 20/1 and 38’s and Taquin du seuill 33/1 Jonjo has 2 big guns more than capable of defeating this ‘Djakadam’ fellow.Just remember Jonjo won this with Synchronised and then went on to win the Gold cup just like I said he would and in both these horses he has serious players…Just remember this too Jonjo rates ‘More of that’ as the best horse he’s trained and that ‘Taquin’ always seemed like a 3 miler…Here we go again guys and good luck if you’re a player..Now where’s that Wardrope when I need him?? :rose:

Still getting my head around Empire of Dirt not running in this, but more than happy to have Fine Rightly, and especially More of That in there. Very happy with my 50’s on MOT, and will have a small top up on Fine Rightly at 66’s.

I’ll be surprised if MOT doesn’t go close here, and I’m also very interested in Zabana, who I think is proper Gold Cup material, though I wouldn’t lose any sleep today if he finished down the field, as I think he’ll be better come the spring.

As Gord mentions, TDS is an old friend of mine, but I’ll leave him today, as I have him at 1000’s for The Gold Cup, and that would be enough for me should he run well today, which I really fancy him to do.

MOT must be hugely frustrating for connections who believe he’s a potential world-beater. He mustn’t half dazzle at home. On the track he has always, even in his novice hurdling days, looked to me as though he is struggling, even when winning. They’ve had at least two goes at his breathing now and I don’t know what else they can do. I wonder if they’ve tried to tweak things since his last run? Otherwise, they must simply be hoping that somehow his ailments will come right.

TDS looks big and I’d be more than willing to chance him at this trip if his jumping was better. If he can get away with two or three errors and still win this, he’d be entitled to run in the Gold Cup.

Zabana indeed interesting in potential. Hasn’t the form in the book so far, but could be a fair bit better than he’s shown.

Valseur Lido could be the real revelation at this trip. Fascinating race.

    Good luck all.

Valseur Lido would be my pick, his walk in the market is a bit of a concern mind

Have gone in on Djakadam. Ricci is on an incredible run so my bet should put the brakes on. Also gone in on Fine Rightly at the 66s. Always liked the horse. Afraid of VL but rather given up on MOT so he will probably go and win now.

Best of luck to all :good:

I was always confident of backing Valseur Lido when Ruby rode him, drops him out with a quiet ride before coming through smoothly to win (Jwine chase, Growise novice chase and the Irish Gold cup but for a fall at the second last when going extremely well). Will be interesting to see how the horse gets on without him.

Ruby also said they felt Djakadam was the better horse when they were both with Mullins. I still get the feeling though this horse has still to show just how good he is over the staying trip whereas Djakadam has a had a few cracks at it the big championship races and usually finds one too good.

Should be a fascinating contest with the rest of the quality in the field and I might just enjoy it without a bet.

I’ve had a bit on Djakadam at 5/2, but this is tough and with plenty that will
fancy their chances. More Of That would be a big threat if on song, he’s so well
thought of he has to very decent. I thought he was going to win the Peterborough
Chase, but he just didn’t have that extra gear at the death. Good luck to the
guys on him, he could make 16/1 still on offer with BetVictor look a gift if
he puts it all in this time.

I suppose I’m picking one that needs to up his game too, and he needs to by a long way
judged on his very poor run Last time out. DON POLI, judged on his
3rd in the Gold Cup and his 2nd to Cue Card, 8L in front of Djakadam in the Betfred
Bowl, shouldn’t be 20/1. His 3rd after those to runs, in the Punchestown Gold Cup
behind Carlingford Lough and Djakadam, and in front of Cue card can be forgotten, they
were all at the end of a Long season, apart from Carlingford who I put up here and had a
decent return, mostly because he was the only one who’d had a a decent break. DP’s return
at Down Royal last month was surely just too bad to be real (I hope), if he’s over that he
should be running on at the death. Cooper has very understandably deserted him for VL and
Geraghty rides the JP horse, but I’m happy enough with David Mullins. If he hasn’t gone
wrong, he has the credentials to get into the mix at the end. I’d settle for a
Djakadam/Don Poli one two, surely at this time of festive good will that’s not asking too
    much B-)

Been on Valseur Lido for weeks and weeks.

Spent the last fortnight praying that he runs. After coneygree nt going in KG, I feared the connections of VL would go here. Thankfully not.

Main bet over Christmas for me. Massively. :yahoo:

Well he’s made it in one piece.

Come on Valseur Lido. Please win!

Well I can’t say he didn’t travel like a dream. Just didn’t find much extra over the last furlong.

They appeared to go a pretty moderate pace until Smashing kicked on but as it didn’t seem to affect Don Poli I don’t think there can be any excuses for the others.

I can’t see Thistlecrack or Native River being worried by any of those and if the likes of Coneygree and Don Cossack return it is hard to see any of today’s runners doing more than making up the numbers in a Gold Cup. As I have suggested it wasn’t anything like a given that Djakadam would improve with age and after today those each-way bets to nothing look exactly like adding up to nothing.

Bad luck MOM, he ran a good ace, but as you say he just couldn’t see it through.
I was hoping for a one two with Djakadam and Don Poli, I had to settle for a 2nd
and 3rd. Happy enough with my e/w on DP at 20/1, but lost out on my Djakadam bet.

They never look to be racing in Ireland until the last half mile. It was the same in the hurdle where, had they gone faster or had K Walsh not lain so far out of her ground for most of the race on the second, it could have been a different result.

Much more encouraging from Don Poli – he’d be a sound Grand National candidate in that form.

Djakadam throughly exposed now at that trip and although Mullins says he probably won’t run again until the Gold Cup, expect a Vautour turnaround to the Ryanair. There’s nothing to say that he’s not at least as good over 20 furlongs and he might well be better now than at staying trips. Ryanair: you read it here first.

Valseur Lido loomed menacingly and didn’t get home and, as Stilvi says, that JN Wine form, as it sometimes proves, might well be unreliable despite the fact that he hacked up.

Other than Don Cossack, that seems about it for the Irish and even at his best I think he’d struggle to beat Thistlecrack. As to Coneygree, I suspect they are now regretting their decision to give him such a hard race at Haydock and there must be a chance we will never see him again.

If I could be sure Tizz would not send Native River to the World Hurdle, I’d say he is far and away the best value EW bet in the Gold Cup at 12s.

ONLY YESTERDAY MULLINS SAID VL WAS A STAYER. HE LOOKED ALL OVER THR WINNER. BUT STOPPED. I DO THINK DJAKADAM SHOULD BE MORE WITH THE PACE AS HE DOES STAY WELL ENOUGH.
NOW LOOKING AT THE GOLD CUP APART FROM FALLING SURELY ITS THISTLECRACKS FOR THE TAKING

Valseur Lido ran a good race but i think 3 Mile + is beyond him.

A number of people have been suggesting that Djakadam is better at shorter but I am not so sure. I couldn’t see him winning a Ryanair.

My immediate reaction after the 2015 Gold Cup was that Walsh sat still for too long on Djakadam. Nearly two years and I don’t think the tactics have moved on. At this trip he appears to do nothing quickly or at least not quickly enough. If he were mine I would want the jock riding a finish half a mile out. It’s probably too late for experiments now and in any case Walsh almost certainly hasn’t got that type of ride in his locker.

I have Outlander in my ten to follow and just so happy with him today, I did not expect that.

Well done BigG with Don Poli, he was about the only horse in the field I did not consider, that was a fine call + close to a big price winner

Cheers buckers, he had me thinking he might hold on for a minute or two, and
no complaint about young Mr Mullins, who had to stoke him up at various points
in the race, he’s certainly not an armchair ride. I’m happy with the place :good:

Nice shout Graham on Don Poli, I really didn’t give him much of a chance, hope you got a good few quid back from him :good:
