I can assure you you’re not alone in your thoughts. Lets just hope we’re wrong. And lets hope that the horse is still at the top of his game, because I wouldn’t want the jockey to push him too hard if he is on the decline. That’s when horses don’t find the leg they’ve always found in the past [or, in Kauto’s case, haven’t]. My optimistic head [wherever that is] hopes that it could just crown a fantastic year for McCoy.
December 24, 2010 at 21:54 #333795AP is capable of riding more than one way.

As seen on Big Bucks and Binocular to name but two this year.
December 25, 2010 at 15:30 #333820At the end of the day, McCoy cant win.
People slate him, wrongly in my opinion, but it may be that thing where people slate people because they are ‘that’ good.
I would say this is Kauto Star’s biggest test in the fact we dont know how much ability he still retains, despite a win in the JNWine Chase at Down Royal, but that race didnt exactly tell us much.
The horse isn’t getting any younger, and if McCoy werent to ride Kauto Star, and the horse lost, then i believe that people wouldnt be as quick to blame him, in comparison to if it were another jockey.
McCoy is a fine jockey, he has been schooling the horse this week, and will have no doubt had comments from Ruby Walsh on how to give Kauto Star the best chance in the race.
If Kauto Star wins, people will be saying it was a hands and heels/steering job for McCoy. If Kauto Star doesn’t win, then it will be McCoy’s fault for that.

The imagination is a wonderful thing and you can convince yourself of anything. Think Denman, think defeat, hard not to as it happened, and you come to the conclusion he may not be what Kauto needs.
In reality he’s one of the greatest jockeys of all time and if he isn’t good enough damned if I know who is.
Kauto Star AP MCCoy currently the best horse and jockey an the National Hunt racing world, 26lbs clear of their field and at the amzing price of even money.
Going to a lot of people who oppose him feeeling rather silly when he hacks up.

We usually disagree, however for once I agree. I have ran the race in my head 100 times, and after watching the last 4 King George’s several times, can not see how he can possibly lose. Nets me £1373, not laid a penny off yet.
December 26, 2010 at 09:56 #333841Having discussed the third highest rated horse The Nightingale at 90/1 (now 28/1), I feel entitled to bring up the second highest rated horse in the race, Albertas Run (168). There is something odd here about 40/1 on the exchanges. Based on public info I would say he is a 20/1 shot. I know he has recently been inconsistent but on a good day he should challenge for at least a place.
December 26, 2010 at 15:46 #333861Moved to, wait for it… 15th January!!!

Crazy decision. How does anyone know what the weather will be like come the middle of January? It could be worse than it is now for all we know.
Surely they should have tried to put it on sometime later in the week even if it meant moving it to Newbury, Sandown or even Cheltenham on New Years Day.
December 26, 2010 at 19:27 #333902I might be alone but i am converned about Mccoy riding Kauto. Im not a fan of Mccoy to be honest but can appriciate his record and brilliance on certain horses, but Kauto is not one of them and this clash could end in an U or F unfortunatly
Dave, you’re not alone but say anything controversial on here and the 1001 people shooting you down because they don’t like views that are different to theirs.
Don’t get me wrong McCoy is an ace jockey and I’ve nothing but respect for him, but his riding doesn’t suit every horse. Take Best. Mate & Denman as 2 examples.

By. moving to a different course it would make a different race. For example in Desert Orchid era what would have happened if they moved it to Newbury, a horse who only won going right handed (apart from 2 substandard left handed races )
December 26, 2010 at 20:17 #333905Yes, I think the only 3 courses where you could feasibly run a King George are Kempton, Sandown and Ascot.
Never ever at Cheltenham please!!!! It wouldn’t be a King George.
Glad they’re going for Kempton though. Fingers crossed things warm up a bit.

Why make an exception for the King George? The Tingle Creek was moved from a right-handed track to Cheltenham within the last month. The Long Walk hurdle will be ran at a left-handed track for the second year in succession instead of Ascot. The authorities should be doing everything in their power to get this race (& the Christmas Hurdle) on ASAP even if it means changing the venue. Is next Monday a bank holiday in England?
I’m no fan of Horse Racing Ireland but at least they’ve put proper contingency plans in place for the Leopardstown meeting (as they did with Fairyhouse a fortnight ago). Moving the King George to the 15 January is lunacy. I know that Forpadydeplasterer and Sizing Europe travelled over at considerable expense with the dreadful conditions on the roads in the belief that the race would be held. I hope Cooper and De Bromhead will now decide to run their horses in the Lexus instead.
December 26, 2010 at 20:37 #333908Although my example was left and right handed courses the are more differences than this, cheltenham for example also has undulations. I think with any race that changes venue or distance or lets new contenders in then the bookies should let you decide whether you want your bet to stand.
On here it also should be treated as a new race, whether the winner is in most people’s minds the same or not.
By keeping it at Kempton it remains the same race only at a later date.
Who knows by 15 January Kauto original jockey could be fit again.

Move it to France!
December 26, 2010 at 23:12 #333917Imperial Call, Christmas Day & Boxing Day are the usual bank holidays in England which when they fall on a weekend gets transfered to the nearest days. Which means 27 & 28 of December become a bank holiday.
The following week New Year Day (1st January ) is also a bank holiday in England, which when it falls on a weekend become the nearest Monday.
If they fall mid-week then they are bank holidays regardless of the day of the week.
You can get this information on any decent calendar though!
