One can argue that Kauto Star set another record on Saturday, with the show-stopper attracting an extra 200,000 viewers to the race.
1.2million tuned into see Kauto win a record fourth consecutive King George, and 1.4million tuned in to watch his attempt at a fifth.
COURTESY OF RP ONLINE: Andrew Thompson, Channel 4’s racing consultant, said: "Once again, a great racing story has delivered a very big audience on Channel 4."
A fortune has been spent attracting new supporters to the sport, yet one horse has done more than anyone with a notepad and a brainstorm.
Kauto Star = Box Office – small number cloth, or not.

In the last three years Paul Nicholls strike rates for January have been:
07/08 17 wins from 65 runners,
26%
compared to the year’s strike rate of
25%
.
08/09 15 wins from 53,
28%
compared to again
25%
for the year.
09/10 9 wins from 42,
21%
compared to a
22%
strike rate for the year.
10/11 so far: 4 from 44
9%
Reet,
Trainer form does not have to be judged by months. Forget about it being "January" for one moment. Does not matter what the timescale is, it is the number of runners that counts.
In my four examples above:Out of
65
Nicholls runners he had 17 winners. A
26%
strike rate.
Out of53
runners he had 15 winners. A
28%
strike rate.
Out of42
runners he had 9 winners. A
21%
strike rate.
All these strike rates compare well with Nicholls seasonal strike rate.
Out of
44
runners this year he had only 4 winners. Only a
9%
strike rate.
To have a similar strke rate, in 44 runners PN should have had 2 1/2 times (10) the number of winners he’s had.
The NUMBERS tell you Nicholls is in poor form Reet.

More depends on what you are running ………a lot of PN’s dross have been running lately but his strike rate on fancied horses is 33%. 4/1 or less
Lot more to it than just looking at a set of figures. How many horses went to post unfancied last year how many went to post unfancied this year? that has a huge say in what percentages actually mean.

It seems Long Run had some expert medical attention prior to the race. Could this be an explanation for the Henderson stable’s run of form.
January 23, 2011 at 11:36 #337339Henderson often has a good start to the year.
Nicholls, in his assessment of Master Minded’s run, aknowledged a lot of his horses were not in good form.
