The KG is perfect for FTF , if he was to win it well then Mullins maybe tempted to go for the GC , don’t agree Gaelic beats him , FTF is the better horse , much more straight forward and rarely runs badly
December 17, 2025 at 20:17 #1747831I’m starting to think Willie reads the forum and is playing mind games with us , hang on I know who he reminds me of …take away the tache
December 17, 2025 at 20:18 #1747832FTF is the better horse going left handed. I’m not sure he’s the better horse overall.
Gaelic Warrior is 7 wins from 8 going right handed with an average winning distance of 19.5L.
The only time he got beat was due to a very poor ride from Townend over an inadequate trip. If he’d have kicked earlier that day, he’d have won comfortably.
December 17, 2025 at 20:19 #1747833They both had a very tough race in the John Durkan, apparently FTF is the one that came better out of it.
It won’t surprise me at all to see GW bypassing his Christmas engagement and having just one early February prep run for the GC. It won’t be at the DRF though. With JP having won the GC, Ricci no longer wants to play second fiddle to the JP owned runners. He won’t do whatever Willie tells him to do, but the KG might not be the right race for GW at the moment.December 17, 2025 at 20:23 #1747834GM FTF has won more , thumped Gaelic last season , Gaelic has talent but didn’t even make the festival last season , honestly I think he’s a bit soft
December 17, 2025 at 20:23 #1747835He’ll never win a Gold Cup in a million years imo. I know he’s won around Cheltenham before but it’s his sheer class which enabled him to do that. He’s not comfortable going left handed.
Even when beating Grey Dawning at Aintree, he never looked comfortable.December 17, 2025 at 20:25 #1747836HDLG.
He thumped him left handed and at pretty much Gaelic Warriors worst track. The only thing he’s ever won around there is a handicap. Hates the place.
No issues with Gaelic Warrior missing the festival either as again it’s left handed. The horse 100% has to be going right to be seen at his best. Horses for courses.
December 17, 2025 at 20:26 #1747837I’d rather own FTF than Gaelic , he’s straight forward , I get the feeling Gaelic is a problem child
December 17, 2025 at 20:29 #1747838Does he need a blanket , hot milk and a cuddle at night , Jesus i miss Kauto and Denman , turn up anywhere , win , repeat , maybe that’s why I can’t take to him , horses may prefer certain courses but the fact is FTF destroyed him that day
December 17, 2025 at 20:39 #1747839And couldn’t follow it up the next time they met and only won once in his last five outings…
Hopefully they both turn upCharles Darwin to conquer the World

Plenty of horses both flat and NH have issues going a certain way around. Nothing to hold against them. Only animals at the end of the day and it could be an old injury which is the cause.
Denman also had his issues going right handed. Got absolutely hammered at Kempton once and then at Punchestown he could barely turn right at all. Almost ran out to the far rail.
Afterwards, Nicholls said he’d never go right handed again.December 17, 2025 at 20:45 #1747846Gaelic can’t be even muttered in the same sentence as Denman , Gaelic has flattered to deceive to many times
December 17, 2025 at 21:25 #1747849I didn’t say he could.
The fact is that Gaelic Warrior is 7 wins from 8 going right handed. It’s not the horses fault his trainer keeps sending him left handed around Leopardstown where he hates.
He’s also an Arkle and Aintree Bowl winner in spite of going left handed which he’s uncomfortable doing. That takes a hell of a horse.December 17, 2025 at 22:06 #1747850Gaelic Warrior had a much harder race than Fact To File in the John Durkan, I’d say. Fact To File had a conventional ride until the business end of things, whereas Gaelic Warrior looked to be choke out from the start. Hard to blame a jockey in the heat of battle throwing everything there is left at the winning post, but to squeeze another ounce from a horse who’s been headed can add to what damamge has already been done. And Gaelic Warrior, based on that run, makes things worse for himself as he wants to give it all – head carriage reminds me a bit of Denman.
Who knows, he might well have the constitution to bounce back, but I wouldn’t bet on it at those odds. And just looking again at the finish made me wonder if Fact To File is a wee bit of a shirker?
Djelo’s jumping will be an asset. The change of tactics at Huntingdon (took it up at the sixth) seemed to suit him very well and he’s relatively unexposed at the trip. Only 7, well proven right handed, and it wll be to his advantage should it come up soft. I think he will be my bet EW.
December 18, 2025 at 05:23 #1747857He’s failed to deliver before at grade 1 level though , it’s a wide open race and it’s looks like Willie is going to make it more of a puzzle until finals decs…
December 18, 2025 at 06:09 #1747859FTF looked a non stayer in the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown. And Leopardstown is a flat track like Kempton. So if he runs out of gas late on i wouldn’t be surprised. There looks like they’ll be pace in the race if IEF and Jukebox turn up as planned. If FTF had stamina guaranteed i think he’d be a shorter price than he is now. GW up in trip to 3 miles, this way round, following the pace, still looks the one to beat.
December 18, 2025 at 06:25 #1747860Gaelic Warrior’s record right handed is 11111211, with his only defeat coming at the hands of Il Etait Temps over 2m at Punchestown in May 2024.
The horse has disappointed in a few races in the past but clearly it’s not been whilst going right handed. - AuthorPosts
