Ruby, I think he was trying to look after the horse a bit also but it ended up costing him the race. You don’t do that in a King George. GW is at his best when pressing the pace.
I don’t fancy him for the Gold Cup at all because he’s not half the horse going left handed but he should win the Punchestown Gold Cup.
The Jukebox Man and Jango Baie are both big contenders in March.
December 26, 2025 at 15:05 #1748548Agree Nathan, but I think he’d be better suited by today’s ground rather than a softish one.
December 26, 2025 at 15:07 #1748549Steeplechasing.
Fact To File is probably better going left handed. I have him antepost for the Ryanair and hope that’s where he’s headed again now. He’s never been a Gold Cup contender in my eyes.
December 26, 2025 at 15:08 #1748550Well done to all who were swayed by Pauling’s over-optimism!
December 26, 2025 at 15:09 #1748551GM, I think both Banbridge and TJB were better suited by track just as their record suggests. GW is about 10/1 for the GC, I think that’s his correct price.
December 26, 2025 at 15:16 #1748555I was late leaving work so stood and watched it in the bookies , it was unbelievable , the winner is a very talented horse, Gaelic pulled early but was beaten fair and square , Banbridge ran a monster , ditto the Hederson horse , I wonder if Henderson would be tempted by the Ryainair , the winner was is a fantastic jumper but it’s the getting headed them back up , that’s fight to back up the talent , he’s got a great chance in the GC
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 26, 2025 at 15:17 #1748556GM do you think Jango will stay …. I don’t think he,d reverse the form the winner

December 26, 2025 at 15:26 #1748561I don’t think front running really suits him personally, those tactics in the John Durkan was more down to GW being fresh and well 1st time out and deciding to just go and Townend not wanting to fight him simply let him get on with it, if they had repeated that today I really don’t think he wins – he was pretty much always a hold up horse (or at least he didn’t outright lead) prior to that race.
I do think he would enjoy a bit more give in the ground (not that he didn’t handle today’s ground ok) but 5 of his career wins have been on either soft or heavy ground. I wouldn’t be certain the Gold Cup trip will be what he wants although on breeding he he has no right to be getting 2m let alone 3m either (dam ran only twice on the flat over 10F and 11F and his sire Maxios never won over further than 10F).
To me the Ryanair would probably be his best Cheltenham option as he could (as several other Mullins horses have over the years) go blasting off from the front if they wanted to switch back to those tactics…..which would be a big no no to try in a Gold Cup.
December 26, 2025 at 15:29 #1748562There also Galopin , if he returns and wins then Towsend ain’t getting off him come the GC , I just wonder if they’ll miss the festival and go Aintree/Sandown again , esp if Mullinscan win another Championship
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
December 26, 2025 at 15:33 #1748563HDLG, He’s bred to stay and I think he would. His jumping wasn’t foot perfect today compared to the winner and he still hit the line running.
Banbridge was the one emptying at the line as he’s obviously not a true 3 miler. No way would I be going Ryanair with Jango.
I think Gaelic Warrior was the best horse today and it’s opportunity missed but I don’t fancy him to confirm that at Cheltenham as he’s much better going right handed like today and at Punchestown.
Still overjoyed with Jukebox winning though as he’s a favourite of mine.
For me the Gold Cup is between :
Galopin Des Champs
Jango Baie
The Jukebox Man
IknowthewayurthinkinDecember 26, 2025 at 15:36 #1748564Brilliant finish and the race lived up to the hype. Looking forward to next year at Aintree with the 4 furlong run in from the last.
December 26, 2025 at 15:36 #1748565Jango Baie looked flat out today … even though he was inching closer to the three. I think he’s better suited to a slightly shorter distance. Maybe 2m 6f.
December 26, 2025 at 15:37 #1748566Wasn’t the reason why he missed Cheltenham last year in large part due to him being under a cloud before the Festival following on from the shocker he ran at the DRF in February?
He hosed up in the Arkle the previous season (even though we think Cheltenham isn’t his ideal course) and was 2nd in the Ballymore the year before that, so I would imagine that assuming that he is well in himself that he will almost certainly be heading to Cheltenham in March.
December 26, 2025 at 15:38 #1748567The best horse won , I’d back that by saying he was the one most likely to improve the most , he may improve more , I don’t think anyone was unlucky , Jango didn’t hit the line like the winner either

December 26, 2025 at 15:44 #1748568Yes really pleased for TJM and Harry. At the price he would have been the one for me. The big question was the bounce factor but he jumped great and showed massive guts to get back up.
December 26, 2025 at 15:49 #1748569I think Jango is always liable to throw in the odd mistake at the wrong time in a race even when he is not being tapped for speed, all of his wins (Aintree’s Formby Hurdle win apart) have been at much stiffer courses of Ascot and Cheltenham.
To me he is a 2½-3m horse so races like the Charlie Hall, King George, 1965 Chase, Ascot Chase, Ryanair and Bowl Chase at Aintree are probably more suitable for him than the likes of a Gold Cup (where he will come up against much stronnger stayers than him).
December 26, 2025 at 15:58 #1748571GW easily put up the best performance of this race. After the John Durkan he was fully entitled to “bounce”. Yet, he didn’t in the fastest ever running of the King George. He is a spring horse and he’ll be a lot fresher in March. Under such circumstances I’ happy to find out, if he is a GC winner or not.
