What a race – well done to Harry! Didn’t think the race was run to suit him but stamina kicked in just in time.
Jockey Club……still want to sell the place!!!!!
December 26, 2025 at 14:39 #1748527What a race
December 26, 2025 at 14:40 #1748528wd winners.
December 26, 2025 at 14:40 #1748529Great race, it certainly lived up to the hype!
Well done to connections.
A Christmas cracker
December 26, 2025 at 14:42 #1748530What a fabulous race. No obvious hard luck stories. Wonderful finish and fair play to Ben Pauling and team.
December 26, 2025 at 14:42 #1748531Absolute thriller! One of the best King Georges I’ve seen. For me, race of the season so far.
December 26, 2025 at 14:43 #1748532If that was the King George at Kempton’s swansong, it wasn’t a bad way to bow out.
December 26, 2025 at 14:43 #1748533Certainly lived up to the billing
December 26, 2025 at 14:43 #1748534Now we learn to appreciate even more the KG achievements of the great Kauto Star.
December 26, 2025 at 14:44 #1748535Get In!! Only winner I’ve had today but it’s the one that mattered.
What a race. A fantastic renewal with not a single horse over 9yo in the race.
Don’t think Townend made anywhere near enough use of Gaelic Warrior though. What was he thinking letting Cobden set such slow fractions on a completely shot horse. I think he may have dropped the whip late on also but not sure.
WD to anyone else who backed the winner.
December 26, 2025 at 14:46 #1748538If that’s the final King George to be run at Kempton then it’s sure ended with a bang. They should probably just retire the race with Kempton.
December 26, 2025 at 14:50 #1748541I suppose you could say Sean got there too early
December 26, 2025 at 14:51 #1748542Maybe Townend was afraid of overusing the horse as much as he did in the John Durkan. I think he’ll go to Cheltenham without a prep run. This race was clearly more about speed than a true test of stamina.
December 26, 2025 at 14:53 #1748543ITV replay shows that on the run in Townend both dropped and caught his whip in the same motion, dam impressive at that speed.
The slow pace made the race but I was a little surprised that it wasn’t TJM rather than GW that didn’t go and press Cobden to go faster as that type of burn up wouldn’t have suited him out of the first 4 home.
ITV also announced that today’s crowd is 17k…….
December 26, 2025 at 14:59 #1748544Great race
Well done winners 🏆

December 26, 2025 at 15:01 #1748545Considering they didn’t seem to go fast early they must have really shifted on the last circuit because they have run 5m 49.13s (fast by 6.87s) and that is a new course record if the RP previous record time of 5m 49.20s is correct!
Given that, both Pauling and Townend were probably right in not forcing the issue.
December 26, 2025 at 15:01 #1748546Yep, not like a Townend ride at all and very probably had the John Durkan in the back of his mind. In front a stride past the post, I’d say. If nothing else it shows he’s a ‘made’ horse now and has a hell of a constituion, whereas Fact To File did not fancy it right from the start. I’d be wary of him now until he shows his best again, as the irish race might have burst him.
