Well I’ve jumped in possibly a little prematurely given the continued drift and taken 5.15 The Listener, as my tissue tells me it’s very good value
…and that for me is all betting is about, simply weighing up the respective chances on the day and in the conditions and betting accordingly
November 1, 2008 at 19:45 #187425Fantastic performance. Faultless display of jumping. Nothing will beat Kauto in 3 weeks time at Haydock unless conditions turn treacherous.

Doubt that will stop him either – only way he’ll get done in those conditions is if he gives a front runner a 10 length start.

Agreed, the way he left that 12-y-o with 50 lb to find for dead was imperious. Seriously though, it was encouraging how well he jumped and travelled after his last 2 runs last year, and though the race was really poor today once The Listener blundered his chance away (wouldn’t have won anyway I don’t think), Kauto has done enough there to suggest opposing him at Haydock and Kempton looks pretty pointless.
November 1, 2008 at 19:51 #187430Kauto did it as you’d expect. In truth the race didn’t really tell us much The Listener had a shocker and Kauto beat the others in the manor he should’ve.
November 1, 2008 at 19:53 #187431Early days yet but a very good start to the season for Kauto. He jumped and travelled so well. Great to see him back.
November 1, 2008 at 19:54 #187432A handy 65 grand for nothing more than a glorified school. As I mentioned on another thread Nicholls will clean up in Ireland this winter. Great to see Kauto back though and looking so well. I dont reckon he’ll worry Denman too much come March though.
November 1, 2008 at 19:55 #187434Hello,
Take it all back from my previous post, OK the odds pre-race were apparently prohibitive, but won well…but the opposition was diabolical..
regards,
doyley

Nice and easy – let’s hope he really is back to his best. Can’t see him beating Denman in the GC, given they.re almost certain to water the ground down to soft.
Is it just me, or did that ground look suspiciously like ‘good’ ground today?November 1, 2008 at 20:01 #187436No more than a stroll in the park once The Listener capitulated
Great to see him back

Amazing performance, Denmans got a serious challenge this year
November 1, 2008 at 22:03 #187464Those who couldn’t see he is as good as ever simply don’t know the horse.
Apprehensive at Cheltenham, ran a stone below his best at Aintree I still say something wasn’t right with him at the end of last season.
He never put a foot wrong today and it wouldn’t have much matered what else had ran.
Foolish to talk about backing him today and hope at least a couple of you took the 11/10 and 6/4 for the Betfair and King George..I’ll pack in racing if he doesn’t win both barring accidents. Roll on Cheltenham!!!!!

Nice to see Kauto Star back and looking happy, but beating an elderly rival rated 135 at levels didn’t require him to be at his best. Satisfactory and encouraging it was, "Amazing" it certainly wasn’t.
November 1, 2008 at 22:46 #187473I thought after the race to the naked eye he probably ran somewhere in the 160’s, though the proximity of the 135 rated horse scew’s that a bit. All it does (crudely speaking) is make Denman’s form look even better, though on a seperate note with todays race in mind I can’t help thinking the official handicapper has got some job on in accurately rating these two, especially with walk-overs like we saw today.
Yes. It’s a pity that The Listener was decidedly off colour as it’s hard to rate the race without a good yardstick.
November 1, 2008 at 23:09 #187478Fantastic to see ‘The Great One’ back to his best.
He didn’t beat much, but the manner of victory suggested he’s as good as ever. Irish supporters clearly enjoyed his exhibition of athleticism and Kauto Star is still the most appealing crowd pleaser in National Hunt racing.
Reports gave the impression he was full of himself before the race and he duly illustrated that confidence on the track. He travelled, jumped and it will put him spot-on for Haydock, where an incredible third Betfair Chase is on the horizon.
November 1, 2008 at 23:18 #187479Wow! What a performance. They were good horses he was up against today – not donkeys, and absolutely slaughtered them, and on ground considered to not be suitable for him. Brilliant Brilliant horse, won so easily. Bring on the Gold Cup!!
