I think for the first time in racing i was almost close to tears of joy.
This is a sport that gets you that way Gaz – I hope you will enjoy many more days and results like this one.

Thank you, no doubt there will be.
I was jumping up and down like a jack-in-a-box when they were coming round the last turn.
March 11, 2008 at 15:38 #149810I love a little battleaxe like Katchit. That was really great to watch as a pure racing lover. Real trier.
However, something must be wrong for Sizing Europe to have blown up like that.
March 11, 2008 at 15:38 #149811So what went wrong with Sizing Europe? Harchibald’s no-show wasn’t a surprise but I expected SE to be in the frame.
As someone who didnt really have a bet in the race (had a little bet on bobs pride e/w lol) I think osana looked to be going really slowly in front and everyone just hung way back off him, giving him first run really. Sizing Europe was handy and ranged up but didnt have the toe to go with them. The two faster sorts, sublimity and Katchit looked the only real dangers to osana, sublimity clouted the last and Katchit was as game as you like and very professional, it was a good win but think everything dropped right for a fast horse this year, and for everything sizing europe may be hes not a speedy horse.
March 11, 2008 at 15:39 #149812Flash, there was a fella who came on the ATR phone in last night, he said that once a famous trainer had told him that to win at Cheltenham you have to peak on the day, and I can only put the reason down to the fact Sizing appears to have peaked early in the season. The best horse won on the day, i’m happy for connections and as I said if a horse could win this race on heart then Katchit would, and he has.

Can’t have that, Sizing Europe three out was absolutely swinging and about to win ten lengths, suddenly he stopped, way, way too quickly for that to be true running, nothing to do with not peaking on the day.
March 11, 2008 at 15:45 #149813Well done, Katchit. I’ve been a huge supporter of his all season and now he repays the faith – both emotionally and financially!! What a brave little horse. He was my EW banker of the meeting a long time ago – he was NEVER going to finish unplaced.
Cheltenham should name a race after him.
I’ll admit, Sublimity was my final selection to win the race – he defended his crown with dignity. Could have been closer with a prep run.
As Alistair Down said, only great 5YOs win the Champion Hurdle and Katchit’s consistency against the very best since he was a juvenile is proof this was no fluke – well done, little warrior.
March 11, 2008 at 15:48 #149814Tenacity and guts (not to mention a touch of class) won the day. Katchit was a worthy and deserving winner.
My chioce, Sublimity (small e.w wager) ran a blinder and looked like winning two out, but couldn’t find any more when Katchit and Osana turned on the pressure. Punjabi out stayed him for third place … er, thanks a bundle !

Sizing Europe simply wasn’t good enough on the day. There may be something amiss, I don’t know – but from where I was sitting, he seemed just to run out of gas.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
March 11, 2008 at 15:50 #149815Think I’ve just about come back down to earth now.
I agree something has to be wrong with Sizing Europe as he went out far too quickly – but other than that I don’t see anything wrong with the form whatsoever.
Osana stole 10 lengths at the start of the Bula and I said how confident I was that Katchit would sit closer and not allow Osana that luxury this time. Yes Osana had a healthy lead, but look how close Katchit was turning for home this time.
Katchit and Osana have confirmed form with Straw Bear, Afsoun and Sublimity from that Cheltenham race in December and I don’t think there any excuses for anything – other than perhaps something being wrong with Sizing Europe.
But overall, I think it’s time we all give Katchit some much deserved credit

Mike
March 11, 2008 at 15:51 #149816You have to give credit to Robert Thornton too for the ride.
Didn’t let Osana get too far away from them, before the 4th last, just got Katchit closer to Osana, and Katchit was cruising really round the top bend and also after the 3rd last.
Fantastic.

Fantastic.

We said all along that if Osana wasn’t given the same lead this time around Katchit would reverse the form, especially around Cheltenham.
A great start to The Festival…
March 11, 2008 at 15:56 #149819Well done to Katchit and connections. I for one was a doubting thomas. Agree something would seem to have gone wrong with the favourite and Sublimity barely jumped a hurdle so did reasonably well to come there with a chance but guts won it at the end of he day
March 11, 2008 at 16:15 #149820When you look at it again Osana has set a really fast pace to be able to come off that and head him was one thing but the guts he showed he must have the heart of a lion.
Told them and told them and told them the horse wasn’t right early on and Kick was training him differently……..even Katchit (member) told them.
You don’t do what he did in The Triumph and then repeat it at Aintree unless your a real class horse.
I am delighted for you Gazza and Mike especially you never lost faith in him once………..wish you could be here now……..me and the lads and my bookie who had more on him than me are partying our heads off……….Zoso will be happy he laid SE for plenty

The next post shall be from a very drunk man………well done all!!!!
March 11, 2008 at 16:43 #149825Well done FOF too, thanks for the wishes.
Absolutely delighted with him, absolutely delighted.

I’ve never been so pleased to see my selections beaten. Katchit is an absolute hero: he’s not very big, but he’s all heart.
Congratulations to all at Alan King’s yard for getting the horse to Cheltenham in peak form; long may Katchit reign.
March 11, 2008 at 17:07 #149830Will have to watch the race again later, fantastic, just fantastic.
March 11, 2008 at 17:40 #149836Well done to Katchit backers!
This "little horse" must love weight; went 13 losing races on the trot on the flat and AW, till it finally won for Channon and Culhane under 9-7.
Goes on to win a big race at Cheltenham under its heaviest imposition.
A strong, tough animal, imo.
And, well done to King too!
March 11, 2008 at 18:07 #149842Congratulations to Katchit, the horse and to Katchit the forumite.
A big ‘well done’ to you both
March 11, 2008 at 18:08 #149843Well done Katchit, well done Mikky, you were sweet on him for a long time. Enjoy the beer!
