    Certainly makes it interesting.

Will be interesting to see what the three will throw at races like the Scottish National (£112k to the winner), Scottish Champion Hurdle (£56k to the winner) & Bet365 Gold Cup (£95k to the winner) along with the Oaksey and Celebration Chases and the Select Hurdle at Sandown.

If Mullins wins the championship personally it’s a magnificent achievement , for British nat hunt racing it would be an absolute disaster , if it goes to the wire then he could have a number of horses at Sandown on the last day ..

Might be the final wake up call for British trainers to step their game up like they did on the flat when Aidan won it.

Also elliot stable won big prizes and the Irish had the first 4 home in the national. Business as usual it seems.Outside Henderson no British trainers seems to have a few top horses. That somehow needs to change.

In the RP Mullins mentioned about going to Perth and the like , fair to say he’s keen to win it

I think he will have to run as many as he can. He can’t really rely on just trying to win the Scottish National and the old Whitbread. If he doesn’t win those, he will still need to win every penny he can.

I think there should be a minimum number of runners to qualify; just winning the top races shouldn’t make you the champion trainer.

That is how it was once based, the number of winners.

I remember the year he went close to winning, 2016; Willie had runners at Perth in the final week, and Vroum Vroum Mag entered at Sandown for the big hurdle on the last day. But after the early races when it became clear he couldn’t catch Nicholls, she was withdrawn to wait for the Punchestown Champion Hurdle, a more lucrative prize, a move which caused some controversy.
    Is my memory correct?

Good, strong ride from Harry Skelton on Doyen Quest. It was obvious that one would be trying. ;-)
