Not a problem at all ginge.
Just give us all the heads up in future when you believe it is a strong possibility a 1/9 will bounce
Listening to Gosden you’d think it happens more than not..😂

And some say Nathan’s no racing man – nail….on….head.

    And wittily done.

That’s the point Nathan. Beforehand I did not believe Inspiral would bounce – although it was a possibility. It’s after the race where it’s pretty obvious and therefore I said he’d bounced.

Had no intention of backing anything in the race but couldn’t resist the price at the off.
Only needed to believe Prosperous Voyage better than a 5% chance to back her.

(Now I just had to go and mention percentages didn’t I). Sorry :rose:

Gosden is right that many horses don’t run their race at Newmarket after having a hard race at Ascot.

So why did he run her?

Yes you’d think they would be on top of ‘everything’.

Lydia Hislop asked him about Inspiral after the first race today.

He said she seemed fine but – as Ginger says – he did offer the caveat that some horses that have run at Royal Ascot sometimes run flat at the July meeting.

I was almost tempted to lay her on Betfair after that, but didn’t.

I was on at 2/5 AP ginge as I thought she had a better than 71.4% chance of winning. Think I need 1/1 in future to account for the bounce factor

“I was on at 2/5 AP”.

That was very bad luck, Nathan
Especially as it’s not anything like your normal bet.

I didn’t have a bet in the race.

I’m not accusing anyone of aftertiming, but anyone who backed Inspiral must find it trying to hear reasons why she might not have won after the race, as opposed to before it.

“So why did he run her”?

    ————————

It must be difficult to know beforehand if a horse is quite 100% and may have thought she’d win without being 100%.
Am sure Gosden would’ve loved the Falmouth to be next week but unfortunately for him he can’t ring up and put the race back a week.

Gosden has not covered himself in glory in the last month but he did clearly say there was a slight worry about backing up a Royal Ascot run at the July meeting BEFORE the race.

    CAS,

Fair play to him and tbh I thought what he said after the race was fine too.

If Gosden had a single funny bone in his body he would have blamed it on Frankie. Straight faced..😛

I actually think all the social media flak has got back to Gosden and it’s shaken him a bit and made him realise he can’t behave like it’s a 19th century trainer-jockey relationship in the modern era.

I thought he was impeccable after the race today and I very much doubt if he will be publicly critical of Dettori, or any jockey who rides for him, for the remainder of the time his name is on the licence.

I was looking at some of the quotes from the owners and I believe there must have been some push-back from their side when this ‘sabbatical’ was announced.
This includes the owners of Inspiral. This is a quote from racing manager Chris Richardson when the pair had got back together:
Richardson said: “All through the spring Frankie was saying, ‘She’s not there, she’s not there’, and we listened to what he said. We took a long-term view and looked to the Coronation Stakes, which is one of Patricia Thompson’s favourite races, having won it three times before.

“We waited until she was cherry-ripe and we were rewarded when she won impressively.”

Speaking to British Champions Series sponsors Qipco, Richardson added:”Inspiral hasn’t done much since then, but all has been well with her and she enjoyed a nice stretch on Saturday with Robert Havlin on board.

If Frankie was the one being trusted about her readiness to race then surely they couldn’t have been happy with the build up to the Falmouth. If he had sat on her for a ‘nice stretch’ then maybe he would have noticed something not quite right.
